Dentinogenic concept Introduced by John P. Frush and Roland D. Fisher Sex, age and personality determine the form of tooth. The qualities of feminity , masculinity, personality and various physiological ages will be revealed in the smile. The secondary factors of the dentinogenic restoration such as tooth position, denture matrix are called as dynesthetics . The dentinogenic procedure is the application of the dynesthetics by the dentist in the sequence of esthetic planning and are accordingly to the sex, personality and age.

Sex Musculine features: prominent teeth Large sized teeth Square arch form Square labial surface Suare incisal corners Darker shade Flat smiling line Canine-cervical line is more visible and prominent

Feminine features : Smaller teeth Round corners Curved contours & arch form Curved labial surface Round incisal edges and corners Delicate appearance curved smiling line Canine – mesial 3 rd only seen.

PERSONALITY Dentist should select teeth acording to the personality of patient. vigorous people More squarish teeth large teeth Darker shade sharp line and point angles delicate people the anterior tooth should be in a flat plane the teeth should be relatively smaller more symmetrically arranged teeth

Form to indicate personality mold selection:

AGE : Younger people Lighter shade More incisal translucency Minimal wear of incisal edge Curved smiling line Pointed canines Older people Darker shade Less incisal translucency Increased wear of incisal edges flat smiling line Loss of tio of canines

A Physiologic shade selection guide( Swissedent Foundation)

Young teeth have a bluish incisal edge due to light transmission through both layers of enamel. The body of a younger tooth is usually a solid and opaque color with very little or no color texture.

Considerations in dynesthetics Various degree of color texture in direct proportionate to the age But this not mean that darker tooth for older individual. Physiologic shade selection: A person who does not smoke and who takes foods of slight pigmentation may continue to have a relatively light tooth body together with normal color texture.
