NAME OF DEPARTMENT :- MEDICAL SURGICAL NURSING ARMY COLLEGE OF NURSING , JALANDHAR CANTT PROPOSAL FOR DEPARTMENTAL PROJECT UNDERTAKEN

Mrs. Khushnasib , Associate Professor – Principal Investigator Ms. Harjot Kaur , Clinical Instructor – Co- Investigator Ms. Anita Devi , Clinical Instructor – Co- Investigator Institution : - Army College of Nursing , Jalandhar Cantt

Title of Research Project A pre experimental study to evaluate the effectiveness of hot application on arthiritic pain and mobility status among patients with osteo arthiritis is selected Hospital, Jalandhar Cantt

Aim of Project The study will be conducted in order to determine the effect of hot application will develop a significant reduction in pain among patients with osteo arthiritis

Salient Details Introduction: Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease that affects mostly the weight‐bearing joints in the knees and hips. As the affected joint degenerates pain and restriction of movement often occur. Inflammation can also occur sometimes resulting in edema of the joint with OA. Treatment focuses on decreasing pain and improving movement. it is very important to research the effect of hot application on patients with osteo arthiritis

Problem statement A pre experimental study to evaluate the effectiveness of hot application on arthiritic pain and mobility status among patients with osteo arthiritis is selected Hospital, Jalandhar Cantt

Objectives:- To assess the level of pain among patients before intervention To determine the effectiveness of thermotherapy in the treatment of OA of the knee. To assess the level of pain after intervention

SCHEMATIC REPRESENTATION OF RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Research approach Quantitative approach ↓ Research design Pre – experimental ( one group pre test and post test design ) ↓

Setting of the study Patients in ortho pedic ward ↓ Sample size 60 ↓ Sampling technique Consecutive sampling technique ↓

Pre intervention assessment Hot application Post intervention Level of pain 10 sessions / 5 weeks assessment Mobility Each session duration Level of pain 5 to 10 mins Mobility on 2 nd week

Data collection procedure Formal permission from concerned authorities Written consent to be collected from each participant Participants will be selected by consecutive sampling technique based on inclusion criteria Investigators will introduce themselves to participants The purpose of the study will be explained and assured to maintain confidentiality and anonymity

During pre test demographic data , pain and mobility will be collected through self administered questionnaire This will take approximately 15 to 20 mins to complete the test Intervention of hot application will be practised under the supervision of investigator Investigator will maintain a record of attendance of participants during completion of study Phase 2:- After completion of 2 weeks post test will be conducted for assessment pain and mobility ( visual analogue scale and )
