The sun is Earth’s main source of energy. It has a vast amount of energy. The sun is considered Earth’s main energy source since most of our energy sources derive their energy from it.

There are two types of energy resources on Earth – renewable and nonrenewable.

A renewable energy source or alternative energy is one that can be replaced in a short period of time such as solar energy and hydropower energy

N onrenewable energy source takes millions of years to replace or can never be replenished

The Philippines is located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, a zone of volcanos and volcanic activities, energy has been collected from them making our country ranked second in the world’s production of geothermal energy.

1. The ________________ erupted suddenly, killing hundreds of people. 2. There is a _______________________ that shoots out hot water every day. 3. A _______________ is a hole where the steam looks a lot like a smoke. 4. Many enjoys the warm waters of a _________________.

The term geothermal energy is easy to remember if you will break it down! The Greek word geo refers to the Earth , and thermal means heat , so geothermal energy is energy from Earth’s heat.

This energy is then used to power generators in the production of electricity.

According to the Department of Energy one-fourth or 14.4% of the electricity in the Philippines is geothermal generated such as in Tiwi ( Albay ), Kidapawan (North Cotabato ), Calaca (Laguna), Tongonan (Leyte), Bago City (Negros Occidental), Valencia (Negros Oriental), and Bacon ( Sorsogon ).

Power plants are built in an area where it is particularly hot just below the surface such as near a group of geysers, hot springs, or volcanic activity.

Tongonan,Leyte Albay Bacon- Manito,Sorsogon Albay Negros Occidental Plinpinon,Negros Oriental Davao Tiwi , Albay Mt . Labo,Camarines Province Iligan City
