I worked on a season review project for Derbyshire County Cricket Club in collaboration with their head performance analyst, Mr. Scott. The project involved analyzing player performances, devising strategies to disrupt opponents' performance, enhancing our own players' performance, identifying areas for improvement in the next season, pinpointing weaknesses where we struggled, and outlining actionable steps for improvement.

Strike Rate
•Derbyshire struggled to maintain a high strike rate throughout the 2023 Vitality Blast
season, finishing with the 5th worst strike rate in the tournament. Their batters
averaged just 129 runs per 100 balls, well below the tournament average.
Some key factors that contributed to their low strike rate:
•Lack of consistent big-hitting performances, with only a few players like Leus du Plooy
and Wayne Madsen able to score quickly
•Losing early wickets in many matches, putting pressure on the middle order to rebuild
rather than attack
•Failing to capitalize on the powerplay overs and set a platform for a strong finish

Individual Batting
Individual Expected Runs and Runs Above Average Keeping in Mind The Context Of The Game
Individual Batting
Expected Runs are calculated by Zain based on a detailed analysis of historical data,
considering variables such as the current run rate, remaining legal balls, and wickets
fallen. By examining these factors across various match situations, and analyzing
over 1.6 Million Deliveries, an average run rate is determined seeing almost all the
possible contexts of the game, serving as a benchmark against which a batter's
performance is evaluated. Runs Above Average Replacement (RAAR) measures the
difference between a batter's actual runs and the expected runs, offering insights
into their ability to exceed typical batting standards in specific match contexts. This
metric highlights a player's impact, showcasing their proficiency in contributing
beyond what an average replacement player would achieve, thus providing a
comprehensive assessment of their batting prowess
Individual Expected Runs and Runs Above Average Keeping in Mind The Context Of The Game
Individual Batting
Wayne Madsen stands out with a total Runs Above Average Replacement (RAAR) of
60 runs, reflecting his significant contribution compared to an average batter facing
the same number of deliveries. His RAAR per inning is approximately 4, indicating he
consistently adds four runs more per inning than an average batter.
Haider Ali, Leus du Plooy, and Tom Wood each have RAAR values exceeding 20 runs,
demonstrating their above-average contributions as batters under similar match
conditions. Brooke Guest achieved a RAAR of 34 runs, equivalent to adding 3 runs
per inning more than the average replacement level.
Notably, Harry Came excelled with the highest RAAR value of 73 runs, despite
playing only 6 innings. This results in an exceptional RAAR per inning of 12 runs,
significantly surpassing the average innings performance.

RBAR is the difference between the actual runs given by a bowler at a particular context of the match
and expected runs at that time if an aveage bowler was playing at that time in same context.
Expected Runs are calculated by Zain based on a detailed analysis of historical data, considering
variables such as the current run rate, remaining legal balls, and wickets fallen. By examining these
factors across various match situations, an average run rate is determined, serving as a benchmark
against which a bowler’s performance is evaluated. Runs Below Average Replacement (RBAR) measures
the difference between a bowler's actual given runs and the expected runs, offering insights into their
ability to exceed typical batting standards in specific match contexts. This metric highlights a player's
impact, showcasing their proficiency in contributing beyond what an average replacement player
would achieve, thus providing a comprehensive assessment of their batting prowess. Negative the
number means better the bowler was, from Derbyshire though Zak Chapplle picked up the most wickets,
yet, Zaman khan bowled with almost -46 runs less than an average bowler, making, it like whooping
giving 3.5 less than an average bowler per match.
Top performer according to Combined Bowling Rate Matrix
Individual Bowling
Top performer according to Combined Bowling Rate Matrix
Individual Bowling
CBR (Combined Bowling Rate) is a metric devised by South African Cricket
Analyst Gerrie Lemmer to more accurately assess the performance of bowlers
in Cricket. It combines various aspects of bowling performance into a single
value, aiming to provide a comprehensive assessment. It is basically the
Harmonic mean of Three Primary metrics of a bowler.
1) Average
2) Economy
3)Strike Rate
Aim is to give all these matrices a single value so that it becomes easy for us to
weigh bowlers accordingly.
