3. 2 basic principles of desichicken nutrition
First:They don’t require any expansive complex feed formula like commercial
layer or breeder birds
Second:Feed should be cheap but nutrition should be balanced which keep them
healthy and productive
In strict backyard rural poultry kitchen waste usually given to these birds and
keep them free range where they eat garbage, vegetation and sometimes
excreta
It should be noted that whatever hen eat it comes in egg
So proper clean water and feed should be provided. Water is now a days very
dirty and highly polluted in many areas which contains heavy metal
pollutants, it is not only harmful for hens but it also comes in egg and meat
and contaminate these products.

4. Desichicken feed ingredients
There are variety of feed ingredients which could be used to made desichicken
organic feed
Feed ingredients can be grass or green fodder, vegetable waste, kitchen waste,
grain and agriculture byproduct based feed
In backyard poultry green fodder and vegetable waste plays important role in
lower down its cost of production.
In farms where we do not have open areas for grazing we have to give proper
feed made of grain and oil cakes to support growth and production.
Nutrient requirement of these chicken is not very high and whatever you feed
these chickens they can never achieve growth rate or production level of
commercial bird.

Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM)
Organic standards is to ensure that animals produced and sold as organic are raised and
marketed according to defined principles.
Currently there is no universal standard for organic food production worldwide.
They have been derived from those developed originally in Europe by the Standards Committee
of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) and the guidelines
for organically produced food developed within the framework of the Codex Alimentarius, a
programmecreated in 1963 by FAO and WHO to develop food standards, guidelines and codes
of practice under the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme.
IFOAM works closely with certifying bodies around the world to ensure that they operate to the
same standards. Purpose of the Codex is to protect the health of consumers and ensure fair
trade practices in the food trade, and also promote coordination of all work on food standards
undertaken by international governmental and non-governmental organizations.

10. Green fodder & vegetables
There are many green fodder like berseem, maize, sorghum, bajracould be given
to poultry birds, these fodder cannot fulfil any of its requirement.
Green fodder improves nutrition quality of eggs and improves yolk color of eggs.
Vegetables waste from mandi’scan also be used to feed these chickens like
potatoes, turnip, carrots, spinach, leafy vegetables etc. These are sources of
starch (energy) and little protein. Vegetables are good sources of minerals.
AFTER this main feed comes which is required for commercial purpose
In commercial desichicken farming proper feed in required however in this no
high class additives are required

Salt
Soda
LSP (Limestone Powder)
Nimbusat
Copper Sulphate
Grit (marble grit or oyster shell)
DCP (optional)
Vitamin Mineral Premix
MultaniMitti(high quality pure form)
Sonth
Alsi& Chia Seeds
Garlic powder

14. Requirements
Requirements of desichickens is similar to commercial layers and breeders
Requirement of chicks is high and they don’t need much calcium
Chicks up to 8 weeks age required nearly 2800kcal ME and 18% CP
Layer ration required on an average around 2300kcal and 14% CP
Grower chickens 9 week to 20 week 2500kcal ME and 15% CP from 18 week
calcium in diet should increased
Layer ration energy could be variable depending upon feed intake
These requirements are not given in any published document I have taken it as
average according breed average weight and maturity age.
Now 3 basic formula and their variants could be made
