Age Determination in Veterinary Forensic Medicine Published by: Dr. Desh Deepak Assistant Professor, Veterinary Medicine COVAS, SVPUAT, Meerut

Methods of age determination in animals General appearance: on the basis of size, appearance and morphological features of animals Horn rings: Based on counting the number of rings of horns Pattern of teeth eruption aids in estimating the age more appropriately Anatomical features of bone are used for estimation of approx. age in cadavers of animals where age determination by other methods is not possible.

Horn Rings Method Age of cattle = Number of rings on horn + 1 Horn Ring First ring appears at the age of two years and then one ring appears annually.
