DEVELOPING A BUSINESS PLAN PLANNING in plain and simple language is thinking ahead. The process of thinking about and organizing the activities required to achieve a desired goal. GRADE 12

Objectives, strategies, financing, production, marketing, profit prospects, and growth possibilities. GRADE 12

BUSINESS PLANNING EXPLAINED what to do. how to do it. PLANNING when to do it. What to expect in the future. GRADE 12

Business Planning is a continuous process until consumer satisfaction is maximized and sustained. GRADE 12

BASIC PRINCIPLES OF PLANNING Planning must be realistic. Based on available resources Human, financial, and physical resources. GRADE 12

2 . Planning must be based on felt needs. Should fit the needs of the people in a community. Such needs can be known through observation, personal interviews and questionnaires. GRADE 12

3 . Planning must be flexible. Resources, needs and economic conditions change. Planning should be adjusted to such changes to be effective and relevant. Planning should be responsive to the trends in consumer tastes and preferences. GRADE 12

4. Planning must start with simple projects. In the Philippines, most people are poor and have no business experiences. The most appropriate project for them is micro business. This requires very easy in management and technology. GRADE 12

PROFESSOR PHILIP KOTLER, author of Marketing Management, said they are FOUR STAGES OF BUSINESS PLANNING 1 . UNPLANNED STAGE- the owner-manager is busy looking for funds, customers, materials and equipment. He has no time for planning. His entire attention is devoted to the daily operations of his business in his intense desire to survive. GRADE 12

2. BUDGETING-SYSTEM STAGE – the owner-manager realizes the need to develop and use a budgeting system. Estimated incomes from sales and expected expenditures are made. GRADE 12

3. ANNUAL PLANNING STAGE – owner-manager grafts an annual plan. He use either the top-down planning or bottom-up planning. TOP-DOWN APPROACH- the owner-manager provides the goals and let the employees comply with them. Autocratic Planning BOTTOM DOWN APPROACH – he encourages his employees to participate in planning the goals and strategies of the enterprise. Democratic Planning GRADE 12

4. STRATEGIC PLANNING STAGE – as the business enterprise becomes bigger, a long-range planning is needed. This is a three or five-year plan. Such plan has flexibility to able to adjust to changing conditions . GRADE 12

5 . The plan should indicate the time which should be allowed for each activity. It may be necessary to establish a target data for completing the activity. GRADE 12

6 . The plan should specify the required resources and their corresponding costs. GRADE 12

7 . The plan should designate the officers who will be held accountable for the accomplishment of the objectives. Sufficient authority should be delegated to such officers/ executives. GRADE 12
