Definition:- Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic disease and heterogeneous disorders characterized by high levels of blood sugar in the blood that results from defects in insulin secretion, or action, or both. Diabetes mellitus is defined as fasting blood glucose of 126 mg/dl or more. Diabetes mellitus commonly referred to as diabetes was first identified as a disease associated with "sweet urine", and excessive muscle loss in the ancient world.

Types- Type-1 Diabetes : About 5 - 10% of those with diabetes have type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes(formers, insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, insulin dependent diabeen mellitus, or of the beta caused oy destruction of the beta cells of the pancreas. In this condition, the pancreas secretes very little insulin or completely stops producing insulin as the cells that control the sugar levels in the body are dead. its own cells in the pancreas and this its own cels in the dy attacks and hus condition is known as the autoimmune reaction.

Type-2 Diabetes : Accounting for 90 - 95% of those w diabetes, type-2 diabetes is the m common form of the condition. In typ diabetes mellitus (formerly called ac onset diabetes mellitus, non-ins dependent diabetes mellitus, or NIDI. Causes : Heredity obesity ⁠ Lack of exercise Physical inactivity Family history of diabetes High-fat diet High alcohol intake High blood pressure Polycystic ovary syndrome

Type 3: Gestational Diabetes : Gestational diabetes is defined as any degree of glucose intolerance with its onset during pregnancy. This type of diabetes usually occurs during pregnancy and ends after the birth of the child. The cause is unknown, but it is thought that some hormones from the placenta increase insulin resistance in the mother, causing elevated blood gulose level.

Diabetes mellitus is a clinical disorder in which blood sugar levels are abnormally high known as Hyperglycaemia. It occurs due to absence or insufficient production of insulin. It is a chronic condition, as it lasts lifetime, but can be well controlled. Diabetes mellitus is known as "Madhumeha" in Ayurveda. It is also known as "rich man's disease" because people who are over nourished usually get affected by it.
