Step 3:The Hook
ديص ةرانص

Hooks
•A small portion of a lesson given at the very beginning to get students' attention,
activate prior knowledge, and prepare them for the day's learning.
•A good lesson plan should include a hook that motivates students to maintain
interest throughout the class period.
•Well thought out hooks can bridge interest in the lesson and personal student
interest so that lessons may become more meaningful and enduring.
•A good hook should be short, ranging from 10 seconds to 3 minutes
•Also referred as “anticipatory set”…get student anticipating عقوت..get it?

Essential Elements of a Good Hook
•Engaging Introduction: Something physical, visual, or cognitive that
grabs attention; Invites interest in unknown or unfamiliar
•Grounded in Prior Knowledge: Connecting with relevant, real-life
examples
•Foster Questioning: Strategic questioning to tap deeper levels of
interest and engagement
•Curriculum Linked: Appealing design may appear to be unconnected to
curriculum, but teacher makes link apparent to students
•Foreshadows Lesson: Snapshot of extended lesson to follow; condensed
concept to be unpacked pedagogically
