FRAME TYPES

Plastic Metal Nylon cord frames Combination Half ye Rimless Semi rimless

PLASTIC Plastic frames are made of some type of plastic material. They are also called zyl frames, since at one time zylonite is a commonly used material. The name is used for cellulose nitrate frames.

METAL Metal frames are made of all metal parts, except for the plastic nosepad and postr. Section, which are plastic or covered by plastic. The eyewire or rim runs completely around the lens.

NYLON CORD FRAMES Sometimes called string mounted frames. These hold the lens in place by means of nylon cord. That fit around the edges of the lens. Thus gives the glasses appearance of being rimless.

COMBINATION Commonly frames having a metal and plastic top rim or temple, as in case of a frame with plastic eye wire and metal bridge and temple.

HALF EYE Specially made for those who need a reading correction but no correction for distance. They are constructed to fit lower on the nose than the normal frame. The narrow heights allow wearer to look over the top of glasses. They may be glass, plastic or nylon cord construction.

RIMLESS These are different from full frame as they hold lenses in place by screws and clamps, instead of eyewire or nylon cord. Most rimless mountings have two area of attachment per lens, one nasally and other temporally.

SEMI RIMLESS These are similar to rimless, which follows upper poster surface of and join the centre piece of the frame to the end piece. The centre piece of mounting consists of bridge, nose pad.

BALGRIP MOUNTINGS/ CLIP ON SPECTCACLE In this clips attached to the bar of steel that fit into a nasal and temporal notch, on each side of the lens. The lens can be easily removed by pulling the clips back from the lens. Sun lenses, special purpose lenses or tinted lenses can all be used with same frame.
