PREVIEW: THIS VIDEO ILLUSTRATES THE DISTANCE AND SECTION FORMULAE AND THE MIDPOINT FORMULA PROBLEMS . PROBLEMS ARE EXPLAINED IN DETAIL WITH THE RELEVANT FORMULA IN EACH CASE. SO WATCH THIS ENTIRE VIDEO WITH ME!

Distance between 2 points Midpoint of the line joining

Question 1 Find the point on the x axis equidistant from (3, 2) and (-5,-2) Let the point be ( x, 0) Point = (-1, 0)

Section formula If P divides the join of Internally in the ratio m: n If P divides the join of these 2 points externally in the ratio m: n

Question 2 In what ratio does divide the line segment joining the points A(3,5) and B(-7, 9) Let P divide the join of A and B internally in the ratio m:n A(3,5) B(-7, 9)

9m + 5n = 6m + 6 n 3 m = n m : n = 1:3

Question 3 Find the ratio in which P(k, 6) divides the line segment joining the points A(- 4,3) and B(2,8) Find k A(-4;3) B(2;8) P(k,6) m n

6 m + 6n = 8m + 3n 2m =3n m :n = 3: 2 internally

Question 4 Find the area of the triangle formed by (p + 1, 1), (2p +1, 3) and (2p+2,2p) Area = (p+1)(3- 2p) +(2p +1)(2p -1) +(2 p + 2)(1-3)

Question 5 Find the coordinates of a point which is at a distance of 2 units from ( 5,4) and 10 units from (11,-2)

From 1

(y -6) ( y-4) = 0 If y = 6, x = 5. (5,6) If y = 4, x = 3. (3,4)
