Do Good to Those Who Offend You David and Saul 1 SAMUEL 23:1-29

.King Saul pursuing David.

INTRODUCTION After David Killed Goliath, king Saul knew that David would be a good soldier and did not allow him to go back to his home in Bethlehem. David live a holy life and work had in which he became a successful soldier in the army of Israel. God always protect him from danger and gave him victory whenever he went to battle.

INTRODUCTION David was well known and loved by all the people in Israel. David success did not make him proud, but humble himself. David is ready to go wherever kind wanted to send him. Therefore be like David, do not allow anything that God did for you or your family makes you proud. God loves the humble and resists the proud.

King Saul was not happy that David was well known than him. He became jealous of David and planned secretly to kill him. Jealousy in an inward sin that God hates. You know what people can see you when you fight but cannot see the jealousy and hatred in your heart. God who sees every heart knows the thought of your heart. God is love, and wants all His Children to love one another, even want us to love our enemies and do good to those that hate us. 1 Samuel 18:14-16 16 But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.

.King Saul pursues David to kill him.

God will not allow the plan of your enemies to come to past in your lives, rather He will fulfill His plan and purpose for your lives. Do not be like Saul, who is angry and jealous over David’s success and achievements. Rejoice with those who are rejoicing and be happy when others are successful. If you are angry and jealous over other people’s success, you need to ask for forgiveness from God.

.Ways Saul attempted to kill David. He threw javelin at him to pin him to the wall. David ran away and Saul gathered 3,000 soldiers to search for David. King Saul left his throne to joined in this evil search to catch and kill David. But God loves David as He loves all righteous children. God protected David and did not allow Saul and his soldiers to catch him.

.King Saul and his men went to seek David.

.Saul left the throne to search for David.

David lived in the wilderness, in a huge cave with four hundred followers. Sometimes, King Saul's soldiers almost found them. But David kept moving. During the search Saul slept in the cave where David used to sleep and where David and his men used to hide themselves.

"God has delivered your enemy into your hand this day," Abishai whispered. "Please let me strike him at once with the spear, right to the earth: and I will not have to strike him a second time."

Why David did not kill Saul? David was a man of God and his heart was loving and kind like the heart of God. The LORD forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the LORD's anointed, or lift my hand against him; for he is the anointed of the LORD.

David cut off the end of Saul’s cloak while he was sleeping without disturbing his sleep. Now it happened afterward that David’s heart troubled him because he had cut Saul’s robe.(1 Samuel 24:5)

When Saul woke up not knowing what happened while he was asleep, David ran after him when he went out of the cave and told him what he did. In that I cut off the corner of your robe, and did not kill you, know and see that there is neither evil nor rebellion in my hand …"

Saul wept because David did not harm him and he said to David: “You are more righteous than I; for you have repaid me good, whereas I have repaid you evil and the good Lord said: Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good”.

CONCLUSION. God protected David from all harm and deliver him from the hand of Saul, He will protect and deliver you from all evil in Jesus name.

As children of God we should love all people even those who do not love us and those who want to harm us. When some body offends us we should return the offense with calm forgiveness and show that person that we still love him.

Memory Verse: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21)
