Yep, yet more note values to learn! The good news is these are pretty easy. You might have noticed some gaps in the the notes we’ve learned so far – we know 1 beat, 2 beats, 4 beats etc but where did 3 beats go? And what about 1½, ¾ and all the rest? Well, you just take the shapes you know already and add a dot and voila, they gain half their value again. Let’s see how this works...
So, if = 2 beats, = 3 beats
And if = 1 beat, = 1½ beats
= ¾ beat = + = 3/8 beat = + ...etc
The same applies for rests: = 3 beat rest = + = 1½ beat rest = + = ¾ beat rest = +
= 3/8 beat rest = + Got the idea? Time to find out!
