Dr. Jack
Kavanaugh on
the Jules Stein
Eye Institute
Following a successful career as a
dentist, Dr. Jack Kavanaugh enrolled in
medical school. After earning his MD from
the University of Southern California, he
completed his residency in ophthalmology
at the Jules Stein Eye Institute. In
addition to numerous other professional
pursuits, Dr. Jack Kavanaugh has also
served as a visiting assistant professor of
eye surgery at the Jules Stein Eye
Institute. A component of the UCLA
School of Medicine, the
Jules Stein Eye Institute has ranked as
the top eye care provider in the Western
United States for nearly 50 years.
Established by Dr. Jules Stein and his
wife, Doris, the institute developed from
the Steins’ desire to promote healthy
vision and reduce blindness. In the years
since its inception, the institute has
conducted research into treating vision
disorders, educated the next generation
of ophthalmologists, and worked with the
greater community to promote healthy
eyes and vision. Currently, the institute
plans to add to its campus with the new
Edie and Lew Wasserman Eye Research
Center, which will allow researchers to
study the use of proteomics and genetics
in treating eye diseases.
