INTRODUCTION Legislation deals with legal rights, liablities, duties & power that is with legal relationship between various classes of persons in the community & between the state & the member of community. Drafting is about expressing these relationship in a text that is suitable to be made into a form of written law or legislation through a formal procedure
Drafting Skills are composed with using language effectively choosing the most appropriate expression & presenting them in a clear & unambiguous way. It can mean the writing of binding legal text. It is skill of putting words on paper to create rights & duties.
DEFINITION A draft is an outline in the form of rough notes of something to be done or made e.g-letter,speech,plan,design, drawing & so on. Drafting in english composition is writing a piece of written & correcting the syntax, grammar, figures & parts of speech, present action
Principles that govern drafting Formation of outline in a satisfactory manner The draft is the skeleton of a document. The statement suggests that the prepared draft should be elaborate & should address all important issues. In a nutshell a draft should be As detailed as possible As a vague Able to fulfill consideration of relevancy, content& unity Such that every paragraph should contain one major point
Emphasis on the arrangement of facts A deep emphasis should be put on the matter in which the facts of the case are arranged The facts should be arranged step by step to reflect an organized analysis of the problem There must be uniformity & consistency in the presentation of ideas
Style & language Style is an important factors for the transparent of ideas, The style should be simple with the most appropriate use of terms that would convey the facts in a precise & simple manner The language too should be simple & faultless Illogical paragraphing, poor punctuation, incorrect spelling & other such language that virtually render a promising document to be worthless should be avoided Reputation should be avoided
Major Rules of Drafting Before making a draft, a design of it should first be conceited One should make sure that none of the facts are omitted or admitted at random Technical language should be precise & accurate Draft should be readily intelligible Draft should be self explanatory as far as possible
Do’s & Don’ts For improving the quality of the draft, a group of words should be reduced to one One simple word for group should be formulated Shorter sentences should be written Prefer active over passive voice Know the motive behind writing Write from render’s point of view Make an outline
DON’TS Avoid unnecessary repetitions Avoid using words containing similar sounds Avoid typing mistakes such as Lacking clarity of distinctness Recording events in the orders of their occurrence Logical & orderly & consistent relation of parts
Fundamentals of drafting Writing of a communication means talking across distance by means of written words, first the writer should realize that there is someone at other end, who will receive the communication, read it, and be pleased, interested, bored, annoyed by its contents One should write after careful thinking over the subject matters.otherwise,a rumbling & muddled communication will be the result. clear thought are therefore necessary for clear expression
Long & complex communication not only waste the time of reader but also annoy him. A straight forward letter written in simple language has the best chance of securing full attention & action
Conclusion To cut the long story short drafting is a practical art. its practice needs long apprenticeship. Drafting OF Communication has to be done written certain limitations & restrictions, imposed by the requirement of the case & legal nature of the document. Every comma, semicolon & full stop in a document is significant & important, therefore a communication has to be phrased & drawn up in positive definite, clear & elaborate language to lessen the possibility & chance of misconstruction.
