SUBJECT NAME-RADIOGRAPHIC AND IMAGE PROCESSING TECHNIQUES SUBJECT CODE-BMRIT204 DEPARTMENT OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES PRESENTED BY SAHEB JANA TOPIC-DUPLICATING RADIOGRAPHY

DUPLICATING RADIOGAPHY Duplicating radiography is a process,in which process we can duplicate exposed processed film.

PURPOSE Our duplicating film is a single emulsion film. It is designed to produce accurate copies of conventional radiographs and video images using white or ultraviolet light source.

REASONS FOR DUPLICATION- Duplicate copies of radiographs may be required for a number of reasons: (1) For transfer with the patient to another hospital. This allows the original radiograph to be retained in safety at the hospital. (2) For display in exhibitions, or as part of a film archive or X-ray museum, perhaps as an example of a rare pathology. (3) For publication in a book or learned journal. (4) For teaching purposes in a radiography or medical school.

DUPLICATING FILM Is a single emulsion film. The color of emulsion layer side is salmon pink. The non-emulsion layer backing is a forest green color. Individual sheets of duplicating film are triple-notched in the upper right hand corner.

DUPLICATING EQUIPMENT Simple contact printer A safelight A white light source An ultraviolet source

METHOD • Lay Manual Duplicator on counter top and open it. • Turn off overhead white light. Safelight is OK to leave on. • Lay the duplicating film (purchased separately) on top of black plastic portion of the duplicator. • Duplicating film has an emulsion side (purple in color) and a none emulsion side (Black shinny side). The emulsion side is face up with the notch in the upper right hand corner. • Place your film on top of the duplicating film. Align both films. • Close the clear plastic top. • Expose the duplicator with white light (75 watt bulb) at a distance of four feet for 4 seconds. A black light may also be used. • Remove duplicating film and process as you would regular x‐ray film.

PROCESSING As with all film, it is essential that proper processing be maintained with regular replenishment. After exposure we have to processing the film.
