What is Nano Technology ?
The word “Nano” is mechanical terms and in mathematical
terminology nanometer means billionth of meter.
1 Nano meter = 10
-9
meter
“Nano technology may be define as manufacture or synthesis of
material or particles smaller than 100 nano meter in size”
Nano technology is unique sciences which embraces upon a
variety of science including physics, biology, chemistry, mechanical
engineering, electronic engineering and etc…
Nano technology is tool to harness the
knowledge of nano science in order to
create new useful materials, devices,
system and machines that have novel
properties due to their small size
What is Nano Particals ?
“Nano particles are the material having their largest dimension in
between 0 to 100 nm”
Nano particles have created a high in recent years by virtue of their
unusual mechanical, electrical, optical and magnetic properties
Many techniques including both top down bottom up approaches have
been developed and applied for the synthesis of nanoparticles
Characterization Nano Particles ?
“Nano particles characterization is necessary to establish
understanding and control of nano particles synthesis and
applications.
Characterization is done by variety of different techniques
mainly drawn from materials science.
Common Techniques for characterization are
TEM : Transmitted electron Microscopy
SEM : Scanning Electron Microscopy
AFM : Atomic Force Microscopy
DLS : Dynamic light Spectroscopy
XPS : X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy
NMR : Nuclear Megnatic Resonance
Application of nano particles
IN MEDICINE :-
Polymeric micelle nano particles are use to deliver drugs to
tumors
Polymer coted iron oxide nano particles are use to break up
cluster of bacteria possibly allowing more effective treatment
of bacteria infection.
Researchers are testing the use of chemotherapy drugs
attached to nanodiamonds to treat brain tumors and leukemia
IN MANUFACTURING AND MATERIALS:-
Ceramic silicon carbide nanoparticles dispersed in magnesium
produce a strong, lightweight material.
Silicate nanoparticles can be used to proved a barrier to gases or
moisture in a plastic film used for packing.
Zinc oxide nanoparticles are widly used in cosmetic products
ZnO also used in industrial coating to protect wood, plastic from u
v rays.
Silicone dioxide crystalline nanoparticles can be used to fill gaps
between carbon fibers.
Silver nanoparticles in fabric are used to kill bacteria.
Silver nanoparticles ink is used to form the conductive lines in circuit
bords.
Researchers have demonstrated a low power method to use
nanomegnates as switches.
Quamtum dots replace fluorescent dots used in current display.
Carbon Nano Tube (CNT) is widely use in electronic items mailnly in
mobile.
IN ENVIRONMENT :-
Researchers are using photocatalytic copper tungsten oxide
nanoparticles to breakdown oil into biodegradable compound.
Gold nanoparticles in porous MnO as room temperature catalyst
use to breakdown volatile organic pollutants in air
Iron nanoparticles are being to use clean up carbon tetrachloride
pollution in ground water.
IN ENERGY AND ELECTRONICS :-
Aluminium Nanoparticles are use in solar cell.
Nanoparticles use to producing high efficiency light bulbs.
Nanoparticles are used to increasing the electricity generated by
windmills
Different Type of Nano Particles
There are different types of nanoparticles
Carbon based Nanoparticle
* Carbon Nano Tube * Fullerenes
Metal based Nanoparticles
* Quantum Dot * Nano Gold
* Nano Silver * Metal Oxide
CARBON NANO TUBE
Carbon nanotube is a new form of carbon which is made up of
grapheme sheets.
Carbon nano tubes are extension of bucky ball or fullerense
without end closing .
Instead of sphere long structures are formed. They are also
known as backy tubes.
The Chemical Bonding is SP
2
bonds, similar to that of graphite
This bonding is stronger than SP
3
bonds found in diamonds.
There are two types of Carbon NaNo Tube
!. Single Wall Nano Tube [SWNT]
2. Multy Wall Nano Tube [MWNT}
Properties Of Carbon Nano Tubes
Strength :- Carbon nanotubes are strongest, flexible and stiffest
material in terms of tensile strength and elastic modulus
respectively
Hardness :- The hardness and bulk modulus of carbon nano tubes
are greater than diamond, which is consider as headrest material
Electrical:- Because of the symmetry
and unique structure of grapheme
nanotube has a very high current
carrying capacity
Thermal Conductivity:- All nanotube
are expected a very good thermal
conductor along tube
POTENTIAL APPLICATION OF CARBON NANO TUBE
Structural
Electromagnetic
Chemical
Mechanical
Electrical circuits
Medicine
Is Nanotechnology cursea or cure ?
ADVNTAGES:-
Less production cost
Reduced energy use
Better medical treatment
More reliable
Smaller in size as compared
to second generation
DISADVANTAGES:-
Loss of jobs
Environmental risks
Diamond become worthless
More powerful and distractive
weapons are produced
Cancer causing properties [CNT]
