Pre-reading questions:
1. How did you celebrate your birthday last year?
2. Did you invite your friends? Or relatives?
3. What was your birthday wish then?

Read a story about a birthday party.

Post-reading questions:
1. Who is celebrating her birthday party?
2. What does she feel on her birthday
3. How old is she when she celebrates her birthday?
4. Did her parents prepare delicious food for her birthday?
5. What does she do before she blows her candles?


3. Presentation:
Have the students focus on the bold words on the story.
The words are, she, you, I.
What does the word “she” mean in the sentence?
What does the word “I” mean in the sentence?
What does the word “you” mean in the sentence?

Subject pronouns - are used when referring to a person, place,
thing, an animal or idea.

• Use “I” when the subject refers to him- or herself.
• Use “you” when the subject refers to the person spoken
to.
• Use “he”, “she”, or “it” when the subject refers to a
person or a thing being talked about
• Use "we" when the subject refers to a group of people
that includes him or herself.
• Use “they” when the subject refers to a group of people
or things.


4. Practice Exercise:

Say YES if the underlined subject agrees with the pronoun.
Say NO if the underlined subject does not agree with the
pronoun.
YES 1. Mother is busy. She is in the kitchen.
YES 2. The sky is filled with stars tonight. It is bright.
YES 3. The children are eating their breakfast. They like cereals.
NO 4. Mr. Castro is a family friend. She visits us every week.
YES 5. “Cinderella” is a fairy tale. It is a story of a young lady
who marries a handsome prince.
NO 6. Father was in Singapore last month. They had a business
trip.
YES 7. Dora and I took a morning flight to Cebu. We arrived
there safely.
NO 8. The house was bought two years ago. You had several
rooms upstairs.
YES 9. Dra. Miranda will be in the hospital tomorrow. She will
visit the sick children.
YES 10. Susan, Alex and Raffy will sign a new contract. They will
be recording artists soon.
