Do not move until the main quake ceases.

2. Drop, Cover and Hold DROP to the ground COVER by getting under a sturdy table HOLD on until the shaking stops

3. Stay away from glasses, windows, outside doors, and walls, and anything that could fall.

4. Stay in bed if you are there when the earthquake strikes. Hold on and protect your head with pillow.

5. Turn off all heat sources immediately. After the main shock calms down, immediately turn off the gas appliances as well as heating appliances.

6. Secure a way to evacuate the premises. Always wear shoes even when inside the house.

7. Do not become panicked by aftershocks. Remember to stay calm even when you feel the aftershocks.

8. Get ready to evacuate. Before you leave the house, make sure you shut off the gas supply valve as well as the circuit breaker.

8. If you are in a building, always use the stairs to evacuate. You should not use elevators.

9. Evacuate on foot. You should always walk when you evacuate. Never use cars, motorcycles, or bicycles.

10. If you are in your hotel room, stay there. There are usually aftershocks, and sometimes worse than the original earthquake.

10. Under a sturdy desk or in an inside corner of your room is the safest place to be, even if you are on the 40 th floor.

11. If you are in a restaurant, get under the table.

12. Do not use the elevators, even if they are working. There may be aftershocks.

If outdoors Stay there. Move away from buildings, streetlights, and utility wires.

If outdoors 3. Once in the open, stay there until the shaking stops. The greatest danger exists directly outside buildings.

If trapped under debris Do not light a match. Do not move about or kick up dust. Cover your mouth with a handkerchief or clothing.

If trapped under debris 4. Tap on a pipe or wall so rescuers can locate you. Use a whistle if one is available. Shout only as a last resort.

If you are at work 1. Do not panic. Duck, cover, and hold. Do not run. 2. When the shaking stops, exit the building using the most accessible exit.

If you are at work 3. Proceed to the evacuation assembly area.
