1. Develop an Emergency Plan.
2. Prepare an Emergency Kit.
3. Complete the Prepared Home
Checklist.
• Ensure at least one person in your household
knows first aid.
• Compile a list of emergency phone numbers -
keep it somewhere that is visible to all.
• Nominate a family member or friend who
does not live with you (preferably interdistrict) to
be a point of contact in case you and your
family become separated in an emergency.
• Ensure your Home and Contents Insurance is
current and covers for unexpected disasters.
• Identify the strongest part of your house
(usually the smallest room) and ensure that
everyone knows where this is in case you need
to seek shelter in your home.
Be Well Prepared
Preparing your family and home for an Emergency is your responsibility

Necessity of Coordination in Disaster
Management
•Disasters have trans-boundary effects & have
common problems
•Disaster Management is a multi-sectoral activity
•It needs wide range of contacts
•One person or organization can’t meet disaster
management requirements
•Working in isolation may result into poor
productivity
•Therefore, coordination is inevitable for disaster
management

Way Forward/Conclusion
•Single agency can’t deal with the disasters
•Coordinated activities of a range of organisations within
and across all levels of government is needed
•3 C Mechanism should followed
•Application of space technology is required
•All hazard approach must be taken
•DM Policy & Act is highly necessary for the establishment
of a separate powerful/resourceful body in Nepal
•Finally, we need an alert, informed, active and prepared
community.
