EFFECTS OF
GLOBALIZATION
COLABORATION AND COOPERATION
OPINION WRITING LESSON
It deals with interrelations and
interconnections of people,
services, and institutions beyond
the local, domestic, or national
borders and instead span the whole
world.
GLOBAL NETWORKS
Global networks appear in many forms such as
international production, networks, international security
alliances, international amnesty, global network for tropical
diseases, and world watch for maritime life among others.
The networks are characterized by actors composed of
people governments, institutions or firms sharing common
interests and exchanging and interacting with one another.
the term globalization refers to the
emergence of an international network,
belonging to an economic and social
system. One of the earliest uses of the
term "globalization", as known, was in
1930 - in a publication entitled "Towards
New Education" to designate an overview
of the human experience in education.
GLOBALIZATION
Definition: Globalization is the “understanding of the
world and the increased perception of the world as
a whole.” (Roland Robertson)
- Connections: It links the local, national, and
regional levels, connecting social and economic
relationships and networks.
- Impacts: Globalization has effects on the
environment, culture, political systems, economic
development, and human well-being.
- Benefits: Globalization has led to improvements in
living standards for many developing nations,
including improved roads, transportation,
healthcare, and education
GLOBALIZATION
It is a process of interaction and integration among the people, companies, and
governments of different nations. A process driven by international trade and
investment and aided by information technology. This process has effects on the
environment, on culture, on political systems, on economic development and
prosperity, and on human physical well-being on societies around the world. For
many developing nations, globalization has led to an improvement in standard of
living through improved roads and transportation, improved health care, and
improved education due to the global expansion of corporations. However,
globalization has had a negative effect on individuals who live in developed nations.
Some of the factors that cause globalization are migration and labor.
Review: What is Opinion Writing?
MIGRATION: IS A MOVEMENT TO ANOTHER PLACE, OFTEN OF A
LARGE GROUP OF PEOPLE.
LABOR: IS DEFINED AS WORK, ESPECIALLY HARD PHYSICAL
WORK
Globalization is driven by the convergence of
political, cultural and economic systems that
ultimately promote and often necessitate
increased interaction, integration and
dependency amongst nations.
HOW DOES GLOBALIZATION WORKS?
TYPES OF GLOBALIZATION:
1.ECONOMIC GLOBALIZATION
This type focuses on the unification and
integration of international financial markets, as
well as multinational corporations that have a
significant influence on international markets.
Example: Sportswear manufacturers such as Nike,
Adidas and Sketchers; beverage companies such as
Coca-Cola and Pepsi; vehicle manufacturers such as
Ford, Toyota, Chevrolet and Hyundai; fast food chains
such as McDonalds, Jollibee and Burger King.
TYPES OF GLOBALIZATION:
2.POLITICAL GLOBALIZATION
This type deals mainly with policies designed to facilitate
international trade and commerce. It also deals with the
institutions that implement these policies, which can include
national governments as well as international institutions,
such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Trade
Organization.
Example: International Court of Justice (ICJ) and
International Crime Court are both located in
Netherlands have jurisdiction over international
cases.
TYPES OF GLOBALIZATION:
3.SOCIOCULTURAL GLOBALIZATION
It is when the transmission of ideas, people, and goods around
the world have reached to such an extent that it leads to more
interconnectedness between people of different cultures.
Example: Korean Pop(K-pop) culture with good looking
singers and dancers have become a phenomenon in
many countries.
TYPES OF GLOBALIZATION:
4. FINANCIAL GLOBALIZATION
a collective concept that refers to increasing global linkages
created through cross-border financial flows. Financial
integration refers to an individual country's linkages to
international capital markets
Example: A Company from the United Kingdom wants
to expand its business to Japan and needs financing.
TYPES OF GLOBALIZATION:
5.TECHNOLOGICAL GLOBALIZATION
Technological Globalization is accelerated in large part by
technological transmission, the spread of technology across
borders. Although the Philippines is not the world's least
technologically advanced country, it is far from leading. It
ranks 83rd out of 138 countries in terms of technological
readiness, according to the Department of Science and
Technology (DOST).
TYPES OF GLOBALIZATION:
6.ECOLOGICAL GLOBALIZATION
occurs when ecosystems are constantly exchanging materials
through the movement of air in the atmosphere, the flow of
water in rivers and the migration of animals across the
landscape. The world is also becoming highly interconnected
through the movement of people and the transport of goods
locally to globally
TYPES OF GLOBALIZATION:
7.GEOGRAPHICAL GLOBALIZATION
is defined as the set of processes (economic, social, cultural,
technological, and institutional) that contributes to the
relationship between societies and individuals around the
world. It is a progressive process by which exchanges and
flows between different parts of the world are intensified
THE POSITIVE EFFECTS OF
GLOBALIZATION:
1. GIVES ACCESS TO A LARGER MARKET
Through globalization countries and companies have
access to a bigger consumer base. Instead of only selling
products in their country a business can expand to other
regions boosting sales and in the process making more
money
THE POSITIVE EFFECTS OF
GLOBALIZATION:
2.PROVIDES CHEAPER GOODS FOR CONSUMERS
Because of globalization a lot of companies are moving to
areas where their cost of production is low, they, in turn,
offer cheaper products because they are not expensive to
make hence lower prices for consumers.
THE POSITIVE EFFECTS OF
GLOBALIZATION:
3. GLOBALIZATION WETS CONTRIES DO WHAT THEY DO BEST
For example, a country can buy cheap steel from another
country instead of making its own steel. They can then
focus their efforts on making other things they are good at
like computers and export them to the countries they
import cheap steal from.
THE POSITIVE EFFECTS OF
GLOBALIZATION:
4.LEADS TO BETTER ECONOMY
With many multi nation's heading to Africa to tap the consumer base in
this part of the world more jobs are being created helping people in these
countries get better wages and improve their stands of living. This
investments by these multinationals or foreign countries also help
strengthen the economies of these countries with the foreign exchange
they bring in. With an increased number of investors looking for
investment's opportunities around the globe, country economies will
benefit wherever they invest.
THE POSITIVE EFFECTS OF
GLOBALIZATION:
5.PROMOTES WORLD PEACE AND UNITY
Globalization brings governments together so that they can
tackle common goals together. For example, due to
globalization world leaders have seen the impact of pollution
and have resolved to tackle climate change together. Also, it
is unlikely that a country trading a lot of products and
services with another will attack it or want to go to war with
it.
THE POSITIVE EFFECTS OF
GLOBALIZATION:
6.INNOVATION
The desire to make a profit has always been a spur to
expanded trade, innovation. and the communication of ideas.
The great ideas from leaders spread more easily.
THE POSITIVE EFFECTS OF
GLOBALIZATION:
7.BETTER QUALITY AND VARIETY
Competition from different countries drives firms to improve
their products. Consumers have better quality products and
more variety as a result
1.DELOCAZATION
NEGATIVE EFFECTS:
This covers the decreasing face-to-face encounter both
for local and international transactions. Telephone,
mobile phone, e-mail, and video chat have substituted
for the physical interactions of people, diminishing the
opportunity to establish closer and improved relations
through personal encounters. It creates a sense of
detachment and a different perception of community in
the individual.
2.DECREASE IN THE POWER OF NATIONAL GOVERNMENT
NEGATIVE EFFECTS:
Globalization is perceived to have shrunk the power of
national government due to the internationalization of
financial markets, technology, and services which tend
to constraint the national governments freedom of
action.
3.RISE OF THE MNCs
NEGATIVE EFFECTS:
Considered as the forerunners of globalization, MNCs
establish their branches in countries with cheaper raw
materials and workforce. They provide employment but
offers salaries lower than what they give in their mother
countries. Their use of local materials contributes the
rapid depletion of the host country's natural resources
and their deterioration of the environment.
4.SOCIAL INEQUALITY
NEGATIVE EFFECTS:
Unregulated capitalism led to the unbalanced economic
development of some regions
INTERCONNECTION OF PEOPLE AND NATION
Globalization leads to interconnectedness of people and nations,
where people refer to a group of people with commonality, such
as religion, culture and language who lives in a specific area,
while nation refers to a larger group of people organized in a
specific place, which embodied an independent government of
its country where they can decide on their own.
