CONTEXT refers to the “circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea, and in terms of which it can be fully understood and assessed . (Oxford Dictionary)
One ”thing” will be understood in as many ways as the number of contexts of that “thing” Persons often disagree because they see one “thing” in different contexts Without clarity of context, one cannot fully understand (or assess) a particular thing Actions (decisions) that are taken for or on a “misunderstood” thing are futile ORGANIZATION
ORGANIZATION What is an ORGANIZATION? “Association of people who interact with each other and use resources of various kinds in order to achieve certain objectives and goals.” ( www.igi-global.com ) “Any unified, consolidated group of elements; systematized whole.” ( www.yourdictionary.com ) “A collection of resources that are working together somehow to achieve a common purpose.” ( https://managementhelp.org ) An entity where individuals , in pursuit of their personal goals , perform tasks in a systematic manner using its resources and given its realities to serve the purpose/s of its creation and continued existence . (Dr. E.H. Pangilinan)
ORGANIZATION An ORGANIZATION is an ENTITY ……. an ENTITY is a thing with distinct and independent existence; An organization is an OWNED entity and its EXISTENCE is distinct and independent from the existence of its owner/s; The existence of an organization is also distinct and independent from the existence of its members; and A formal organization is a JURIDICAL PERSON (a separate or different “person” from its owner/s).
ORGANIZATION An ORGANIZATION is primarily composed of individuals who join it to pursue their personal interests ……. PRINCIPALS AGENTS PRINCIPAL-AGENT THEORY Principals contract agents to act on their behalf (to serve their interests). Agents are compensated (in turn, to serve their individual interests) for acting on behalf of the principals. Ideally, there should be congruence of the interests of principals and agents for the relationship to work.
ORGANIZATION An ORGANIZATION is primarily composed of individuals who join it to pursue their personal interests ……. RATIONAL CHOICE THEORY Individuals use their self-interests to make choices that will provide them with the greatest benefit. Why individuals “invest” in or establish an organization? Why individuals work in or for an organization? “Return-on-Investment”
ORGANIZATION In an ORGANIZATION, individuals (agents) perform tasks in a systematic manner using its resources ……. Individuals in an organization have roles to play (tasks and responsibilities to perform, contributions to make, accountabilities) SYSTEMATIC –tasks are performed based on an established plan, process, and system, and in conformity with established rules and policies. SYSTEM –a set of elements working together as parts of a mechanism to achieve a common objective or produce a common output; Individuals use all other resources (material, financial, technological, informational) owned by the organization in performing tasks in a systematic manner.

PURPOSE/S Creation and Continued Existence
ORGANIZATION Organizations operate in dynamic internal and external environments. For the continued existence of organizations, they need to adapt to, deal with, or leverage on such changes. Serving the purpose of an organization’s creation requires continuous improvement in performance.
