Used: To express an action that
is in process
“-ing” verbs (speaking, doing,
jumping, laughing, sleeping)

2. She is talking.
Ella está hablando.
They are eating.
Ellos están comiendo.

3. It is raining.
Está lloviendo.
Ellas están bailando.
They are dancing.

4. So, you use this structure with estar
to say things like…
•ESTAR + Present Participle
•Estoy talking (hablando)
•Estás eating (comiendo)
•Está leaving (saliendo)
•Estamos dancing (bailando)
•Estáis
•Están

5. Now, let’s break it down!
•ESTAR + Present Participle
(“-ing”)
•Estoy -AR = -ando
•Estás (hablando)
•Está -ER = - iendo
•Estamos (comiendo)
•Estáis -IR = -iendo
•Están (saliendo)

6. Ejemplos:
I am talking.  Yo estoy hablando.
You are eating.  Tú estás comiendo.
We are writing.  Nosotros estamos
escribiendo.
Note: Leer, traer, creer and ir have a y in the
present participle.
