Summary:
1. In today’s world we are taught to depend on ourselves to control our lives, to hang around successful people such that their success and habits run off on us.
2. Jesus reminds us to walk with Him, to recognise Him whom we give our allegiance to, and to depend on Him
3. Want to be great in His Kingdom? Receive those whom are neglected, serve those whom are left out, help those in need. Look out for those that nobody focuses on. Be humble.
4. We serve Him by serving from the back, from the bottom, focusing on others and not on ourselves

What is going on today?
What is going on today? Surrounding oneself with successful, driven individuals encourages similar habits and mindset.
What happened before this? Jesus is the one the people of God has been waiting for … evidenced by His healing of the boy possessed by a demon. He is the one to give allegiance to, the one to follow…
Today … What does God’s Word have to say to us today? Mark 9: 30-37
Jesus Again Foretells Death, Resurrection 30 They went on from there and passed through Galilee. And he did not want anyone to know, 31 for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.” 32 But they did not understand the saying and were afraid to ask him.
DISCUSSION QUESTION 1 What do you think the disciples wanted to ask Jesus? Why? They were afraid to ask Him. Why?
What is the message for TODAY? The disciples do not understand the full story We try to sort it out ourselves… But we often get stuck, and we will not stop to ask We plough on… with determination, we push on…
Who Is the Greatest? 33 And they came to Capernaum. And when he was in the house, he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?” 34 But they kept silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest. 35 And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” 36 And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them, 37 “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.”
DISCUSSION QUESTION 2 Why were the disciples silent when asked by Jesus? What does it mean to be last of all and servant of all today?
What is the message for TODAY? Today we are concerned with status, when we know we should not We see people no up Often, we want to lead, we want to stand up, stand out We are rewarded for being different, for being better… When we serve, we bow low, we see from low upwards
Practically what shall we do for TODAY? In His Kingdom, we serve, from the back, from the bottom, focusing not on ourselves, but on those that are usually ignored or forgotten…. In Jesus’ name.
PRACTICALLY how do we do that?
Give thanks with a grateful heart Give thanks to the Holy One Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ, His Son Give Thanks
And now let the weak say, "I am strong”, Let the poor say, "I am rich, Because of what the Lord has done for us"
