EMERGENCE OF NEW INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY –CONVERGENCE OF COMPUTING AND TELECOMMUNICATION BY -biswajit biswaranjan mohanta(21bedme08) Ts-3:p.2: content design and e-learning Department of education , sambalpur university

Content- Introduction Concept of convergence of computing and telecommunication. Reason for convergence of computing and telecommunication. T ype of transmission technology. Conclusion.

introduction Emerging technologies are technologies whose development, practical applications, or both are still largely unrealized. These technologies are generally new but also include older technologies finding new applications. converging technologies represent previously distinct fields which are in some way moving towards stronger inter-connection and similar goals. However, the opinion on the degree of the impact, status and economic viability of several emerging and converging technologies varies.

Concept of convergence of computing and telecommunication. Telecommunications is transcending its traditional focus on telephony by leveraging the computer's ability to manage other media, like video, graphics, animation, and data. The two technologies (as well as their respective industries) are converging . Technological convergence is a term that describes bringing previously unrelated technologies together, often in a single device. Smartphones might be the best possible example of such a convergence . T he two technologies (as well as their respective industries) are converging. This convergence gives considerable new capabilities to the individual as well as society, and the universe of networked computers will serve as an important telecommunications infrastructure for the future.

Cont … Telecommunications convergence or network convergence describes emerging telecommunications technologies, and network architecture used to migrate multiple communications services into a single network . C onvergence in networking occurs when one network provider delivers networking services for voice, data, and video in a single network offering, instead of providing a separate network for each of these services. This allows a business to use one network from one provider for all communication and cloud-based services.

Reason for convergence of computing and telecommunication. This convergence gives considerable new capabilities to the individual as well as society, and the universe of networked computers will serve as an important telecommunications infrastructure for the future . I n today's fast-paced business environment, customers demand quick access to information, services, and results. Technological convergence empowers businesses to meet these expectations while streamlining operations and reducing overhead costs.

type of transmission technology. Face to face Co-axial cable distribution Optical fiber Satellite Infrared Bluetooth Internet Wi-Fi 3G and 4G E-mail Instant messaging and chat Online conference

Cont … Face to face transmission technology. face-to-face communication is the best vehicle for conveyance of complex information including facial expression, gestures, and tone of voice, followed by telephone conversations which also allow for nuances in tone of voice, pauses, subtle emphases, etc . Online face-to-face communication is having the ability to see the other person or people during a conversation. It's an opportunity to exchange more than just words because both the speaker and listener(s) can observe and adjust based on body language and expression.

Cont … Co-axial cable distribution Coax cables were originally designed for Radio Frequency (RF) and microwave transmission.  The signal is transmitted through the cable at high frequency as a wave and is guided by the conductors. The outer conductor also prevents electrical interference getting in or out.

Cont … Optical fiber Fiber optics, or optical fiber, refers to the technology that transmits information as light pulses along a glass or plastic fiber. A fiber optic cable can contain a varying number of glass fiber, from a few up to a couple hundred. Optical Fiber are hair-thin strands of glass or plastic that transmit light over distances just like wires carry electricity. They're used extensively in telecommunications , laser beam delivery, sensing, medical applications, and more. Fiber optics have had a huge impact on modern life.

Cont … Satellite Satellite transmission consists of a line-of-sight propagation path from a ground station to a communications satellite (up link) and back to an earth station (down link ). Communication satellites use multiple frequencies bands, just like a radio, to transmit information. A typical satellite link involves the transmission or uplinking of a signal from an Earth station to a satellite. The satellite then receives and amplifies the signal and retransmits it back to Earth, where it is received and reamplified by Earth stations and terminals.

Cont … Infrared Infrared transmission technology refers to energy in the region of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum at wavelength longer than those of visible light but shorter than those of radio waves. Infrared technology allows computing devices to communicate via short range wireless signals.

Cont … Bluetooth It is a wireless communication technology that can be used for close-range data transmission from one digital device to another. Bluetooth is essentially a one-to-one wireless connection that uses 2.4 GHz-band radio waves. B luetooth is a type of wireless communication used to transmit voice and data at high speeds using radio waves . It is a standard protocol for short-range radio communications between many different types of devices, including mobile phones, computers, entertainment systems and other electronics.

Cont … Internet Internet Transmission means the transmission of data via Internet Protocol, UDP or other network protocols or architectures and any successor means, methods, processes or technologies now or here after devised for the transmission of digital data, including without limitation through use of client software.

Cont … Wi-fi WIFI stands for  Wi reless Fi delity which is a wireless technology standard for wireless Internet access. It is used as a replacement for cable connections and other types of wires. Wi-Fi most commonly uses the 2.4 gigahertz (120 mm) UHF and 5 gigahertz (60 mm) SHF radio bands; these bands are subdivided into multiple channels. Channels can be shared between networks, but, within range, only one transmitter can transmit on a channel at a time. Wi-Fi's radio bands work best for line-of-sight use.

Cont … 3g and 4g The 3G technology offers a maximum download rate of about 21 Megabytes per second. The 4G technology can download videos at a much faster rate, that can go as high as 1 Gigabyte per second. It utilises the packet switching technique. It utilises both the message switching as well as the packet switching techniques.

Cont … E.mail - o send a mail, a system must have client MTA and system MTA. It transfer mail to mailboxes of recipients if they are connected in the same machine. It delivers mail to peer MTA if destination mailbox is in another machine. The delivery from one MTA to another MTA is done by Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Mail Transfer Agents (MTAs) communicate with each other over the internet using SMTP protocol (SMTP servers). The recipient's MTA then forwards the email to the incoming mail server (MDA, mail delivery agent), tasked with storing the mail until the user accepts it.

Cont … Instant massaging and chat. An instant message service center (IMSC) is a network element in the mobile telephone network which delivers instant messages. When a user sends an IM message to another user, the phone sends the message to the IMSC. The IMSC stores the message and delivers it to the destination user when they are available . there are two kinds of instant messaging software – application based and Web based.

Cont … Online conference Web conferencing is a technology that allows people to communicate with each other using their computers. This technology is often used for business or educational purposes. To organize a video meeting, all you need is a webcam, microphone, monitor or other video and audio display device.
