H-Style instruments tend to resemble a wood screw. H files have a non-cutting tip and there are a few modifications done with the files giving them a flattened shape which helps in preventing stripping. H-Files cuts only in one direction known as retraction or pull motion . These files have a very positive rake angle of the flute design making them more efficient. The spiral design of the flute increases depth and length from tip to handle. The cross-sectional shape of the file is ‘S’ in shape because of which these are also called S Files . It is used in linear motion and prepares the canal without ledging it. These files do not remove excess materials from the outer wall.
