Energy Formula: Kinetic and Potential

ENERGY -The ability to do work . - energy is just the force that causes things to move . - The unit of Energy is the same as of Work, i.e. Joules . - Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, and it can only be transformed from one form to another .

POTENTIAL ENERGY - a type of energy that is stored in an object due to its position relative to other objects . -energy that can be used to do work. - a rubber band that has been stretched out between two fingers, water sitting behind a dam, and the energy in a battery . -

*Gravitational Potential Energy -It represents the potential an object has to do work as a result of being located at a particular position in a gravitational field . -example, holding a chalk a meter above the ground.

PEgravity = m x g x h

KINETIC ENERGY - is the energy an object has because of its motion . - walking, falling, flying, and throwing . - if we want to accelerate an object, then we must apply a force . Applying a force requires us to do work . After work has been done, energy has been transferred to the object, and the object will be moving with a new constant speed.

-KE= 0.5 x m x v 2 - if we want to accelerate an object, then we must apply a force . Applying a force requires us to do work . After work has been done, energy has been transferred to the object, and the object will be moving with a new constant speed .

POWER -the rate of doing work, it is the work done in unit time. -work over time. -measured in Watts. - Joule/second. - P=W/t or P= Fxd /t

What is the power output of the stickman that pushes the box 5 meters in 3 seconds with a constant force of 12 N?

QUIZ: 1 . When is no work done on an object? a) When a force is applied in the direction of motion b) When the object moves in the opposite direction of the force c) When the object does not move at all d) Both b and c 2. How is power defined? a) The amount of work done over time b) The total energy consumed c) The speed at which work is done d) Both a and c

3. What is the unit of energy in the International System of Units (SI)? Joule b ) Watt c ) Newton d ) Volt 4. What type of energy is stored in an object due to its position? Kinetic energy b) Thermal energy c) Potential energy d) Mechanical energy 5. According to the law of conservation of energy, energy cannot be: Created b) Destroyed c) Transformed d) Both a, b, and c 6-10. A box is pulled with a force of 25 N to produce a displacement of 15 m. If the angle between the force and displacement is 30 o, find the work done by the force .

Assignment: DIRECTION : Create a 2 stanza poem about work, energy, and power.

Colossians 1:29 For this purpose also I labor , striving according to His power, which mightily works within me .
