Journalism gathering and presenting news stories. the act of writing about news related subjects for all mediums, print or non-print. the complicated process of taking information and sifting through it, editing information, and giving its context.
Journalist a person who works in journalism  to report the news . involved in the selection and presentation of what he or she considers to be noteworthy and in meeting the standard of honesty in reporting.

CHARACTERISTICS OF JOURNALISTIC WRITING
Simplicity and Brevity: 01 Writers use short sentences as much as possible in the active voice. Tells what a person does Active Voice The subject performs the action subject + verb + object The dog jumped over the fence.
Precision 02 The writers use precise and simple words. Examples: A large number assembled at the meeting. Five hundred attended the political meeting.
Objectivity and Factual: 03 Information from experts and the writer refrains from having judgment to journalistic writing. Objectivity: the absence of personal opinion Because Cassidy Martin has held a 4.0 GPA throughout high school and won five national awards for her artistry, her classmates and teachers voted her “Most Likely to Succeed.” Cassidy Martin is so intelligent and talented that she will definitely become a success after graduation.
Fairness and Balance: 04 Both sides of the story are presented and given equal coverage.

FEATURES OF JOURNALISTIC WRITING
HEADLINES It should: the bold page headings that summarizes the story have few words to sum up the story be catchy use powerful and full of emotion language be written in the present tense

BYLINES It should include: identify the writer of the article the writer’s name the writer’s title or role (example: Feature Writer, Sports Writer) the writer’s email address or social media account name

FACTS It should include: The writer must answer the 5 W’s,( Who, What, Where, When, Why) for the data to be written in the article Introduction - more information on the story and sum up what it is going to be about. Sub-heading - to help the reader clearly understand the information on the story.
COVID-19, HOW TO DEFEAT IT? Example: Reported by: Marikit S. Talumpati, Feature Writer Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by washing your hands or using an alcohol based rub frequently and not touching your face. The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, so it’s important that you also practice respiratory etiquette (for example, by coughing into a flexed elbow).

TEXTUAL FEATURES must avoid presumptions or generalizations (not bias) must be interesting, significant and relevant. usually words are in the past tense. use language to describe (adjectives, adverbs) should be written in 3rd person (he, she, it, they)
FRONT LOADING A concept used when drafting reports. This ensures that all the key information are included to prevent the readers to lose their interest in reading the article. The lead , which is the first paragraph of a news story should include the point of the story or the major facts right away.
CONCLUSION Summary or recap of the main points or suggest possible predictions.
