TENSES- talk about TIME - Is the time expressed by the verb.

The principal parts of a verb are the basis upon which all these tenses are formed. Examples of PRESENT TENSE The meeting begins at 9 am. The dog bites when it’s scared. She always brings lunch to school. I buy groceries every week. The cay catches mice.

Examples of PAST TENSE She began her new job last week. The dog bit the mailman yesterday. She brought a give to the party. I bought some fresh vegetables from the market. The police caught the thief after a long chase.

Examples of PAST PARTICIPLE The project has begun ahead of schedule. She has been bitten by a mosquito several times. They have brought all the necessary materials for the trip. I have bought several books this month. He has caught a lot of fish this morning.

The Present Tense The present tense can express three things: 1 . An action : Something happening now or regularly. For example: "Bob plays basketball, doesn’t he?" This is an action occurring in the present.

Examples: She runs every morning. They are friends. He always drinks coffee in the morning. The cat chases the mouse. He feels happy today. I go to the gym three times a week.

The Past Tense The past tense expresses an action completed in the past or a state of being in the past. - The past tense is formed from the second principal part of the verb. Example : My brother forgot his lunch box at home. (action) He was worried about his " baon ". (state of being)

Examples: She danced beautifully at the party last night. The dog chased its tail in the backyard. I was tired after a long day at work. The weather was cold and snowy yesterday. The children played in the park all afternoon. The cat slept peacefully on the couch. I ate a delicious meal at the restaurant. The sun shone brightly on the beach.

The Future Tense The future tense expresses an action that will take place at some time in the future. Formation : The future tense is formed by adding shall or will to the first principal part of the verb.

EXAMPLES: Mother will buy fruits tomorrow. (PROMISE) We shall go with her to the grocery store . (DETERMINATION)

Distinguishing "Shall" and "Will" -the use of "shall" and "will" in the future tense. While both can be used to express future actions " Shall " is typically used with the first person (I/we) to express a promise, determination, or intention. – " Will " is typically used with the second and third persons (you/he/she/they) to express a simple future action.

EXAMPLES: I shall prepare everything on Monday. ( Promise or determination) We shall accompany you personally to the doctor. ( Promise or intention) You will be able to see quite well from this seat . (Simple future action) He will sign the contract tomorrow. ( Simple future action)

EXAMPLES: I promise that I will protect you, no matter what happens. ( Promise) Hector is determined that he shall save a part of his earnings. ( Determination ) We will be there, rain or shine. ( Promise ) They shall come, I assure you. ( Promise )
