Pea pod borer Scientific name: Etiella zinckenella Treitschke Order : Lepidoptera Family : Phycitidae
Distribution: Pantropical in distribution and distributed throughout India particular reference to U.P., M.P., Bihar, Punjab, Rajasthan etc. . Host: Pea, lentil, red gram, pigeon pea, lima bean, green peas, horse gram, lathyrus , and sunhemp . NOD: The injury is caused by larvae which consume floral parts, newly formed pods and feed on the developing seeds. Newly hatched larvae construct a web type structure through which they enters the pod one or rarely two larvae may be seen in a pod . After feeding a larva moves to another pod. In later stage of damage , the pods become discoloured, watery in appearance and emit foul smell. . Management: Same as in case of gram pod borer
