Problem Statement The Issue of Food Waste & Hunger Every day, restaurants, hotels, and college canteens discard a massive amount of uneaten food . Meanwhile, millions of people in India go to bed hungry , struggling to find a proper meal. According to reports: 74 million tones of food is wasted in India every year. This accounts for about 22% of the country’s total foodgrain output . The economic loss from food waste is approximately ₹92,000 crores annually . Lack of an efficient system to connect surplus food from eateries to those in need leads to unnecessary wastage. Addressing this gap can significantly reduce food waste and fight hunger at the same time.

The Urgent Need for a Food Redistribution System Food Waste in India: 74 million tonnes of food are wasted annually in India, which is about 22% of the country's foodgrain output . This results in a loss of approximately ₹92,000 crores each year. 55 kg of food is wasted per capita annually. Hunger & Food Insecurity: 1 in 3 Indians face food insecurity, with 190 million people struggling to get enough food. 27% of children in India are stunted, reflecting poor nutrition due to lack of access to food. Over 200 million Indians suffer from malnutrition. Lack of Infrastructure for Redistribution: Currently, there is no centralized system for redistributing surplus food, leading to unnecessary food waste . 60% of restaurants and canteens dispose of surplus food without any mechanisms for redistribution. Technological Implementation We’ve kept our Technological Implementation Simple yet Impactful. Currently we made a mock-up for our website. The functional website will be connecting restaurant, eateries to NGOs to distribute or for individual consumption. This simple and small Implementation will not only make our task easy but also helpful to others seeking for a convenient way of this problem.
