Emergency Department Throughput Direct Bedding Project

Purpose To define standard processes for Direct Bedding that decreases door-to-practitioner times to < 15 minutes to meet the goal of being a top 10% hospital and increases patient quality of care and satisfaction

The Opportunities Reduction of response time in Reception Average time from Reception to Triage was 2:39 (minutes and seconds) Reduction of response time in Triage Average time from Triage to Room was 14:52 Reduction of response time of Practitioners Average time from Room to Practitioner was 14:20

The Savings Based on the Cast and Crew input and data analysis Reception to Triage will be reduced to 1 minute a quick reception will be completed Triage to Room/Bed will be reduced to 2 minutes a nursing assessment will be done Room/Bed to Practitioner will be reduced to 12 minutes triage will be completed bedside Nursing initiated protocols will be implemented Overall savings of 16:51 or 52.9% Based on yearly volume, this saves approximately 270,000 minutes or 4,500 hours or 187.5 days Provides the potential for approximately 1,800 more patients per year

The Impact HCAHPS score for Patients Admitted from ER increased ED CAHPS s cores increased across all areas Press Gainey scores increased across all areas Publicly reported measures improved across all areas
