What is Cost Estimation
•The discipline to determine the total cost of an IT
Solution
•Use of processes, methods, techniques and tools to
come up with the final costs / budget
•A step performed by a ‘Cost Estimator’
•The cost estimator provides input for the Budget or
Pricing
•The Cost Estimator supports the Solution Architect in
decisions making
•Cost Estimation is a new discipline in IT and includes
more than effort estimation
•Cost Estimation is the basis for the budgeting or
pricing of solutions
•The result of the Cost Estimator is the basis for the
Project Manager to control the delivery
