Noun A word used to refer to people, animals, objects, substances, states, events, ideas and feelings. Examples:Mrs . Tan (people) Dog (animal) Ball (object) Europe (place) Love (feeling)

Nouns can be classified into following categories: Common Nouns Proper Nouns Abstract Nouns Collective Nouns Countable Nouns Uncountable Nouns Possessive Nouns

Common Nouns It’s a name given to a group of similar things or persons. Example: Man, woman, country, city, airline, building, university, school etc. Mr. Uy , Mylene , Europe, Makati City, Philippine Airlines, Oxford University, Chinese International School

Proper Nouns It is the name of a person, place or thing in particular. In proper nouns, the first letter is always in capital . Example: He is visiting Spain this summer. The conference will be held in Shanghai . Thomas studied in Harvard University.

Abstract Nouns It is the name of a quality, action or state of a noun or we can say the name of something we can’t touch, smell, see or taste. Example: Mark is well known for his kindness . The childhood is a golden period of one’s life. The youth is a biggest strength of any nation

Abstract Nouns It is the name of something we can’t touch, smell, see or taste. Example: advice, information, kindness, goodness, discussions etc.

Collective Nouns A collective noun is a particular name given to the collection of persons, things taken together. Example: Family, Nation, Army, Association, Committee, Team, bunch etc.

Countable Nouns The things which can be counted. Examples : Book – it can be counted as a book, 2 books, many books etc. Other examples are dog, cat, animal, person, bottle.

Countable Nouns Note: We add “ s ” at the end of the countable noun to make it plural. Example:Singular Plural book book s chair chair s pen pen s

Uncountable Nouns These are the things which cannot be counted. Examples: Tea, Sugar, Water, Air, Rice, Coffee g rounds, Sand Note: they do not have plural form

Possessive Nouns Form of a noun expresses ownership or belonging. Example: This is Mike’s bike. This sentence shows that ‘ Mike ’ is the owner of the bike. Note: add apostrophe after a noun to make it possessive nouns.

Possessive Nouns Examples: These are men’s wear. She is Sarah’s mother. Are we going to Jack’s party? He is John’s friend. This is my sibling’s room.
