Analysis Of James Baldwin s The Blues
Sonny s Blues, a short story by famed African American author James Baldwin, is the story of two
bothers. Other famous stories of two brothers include both The Prodigal Son parable and the story of
Cain and Abel, both from which Baldwin clearly draws inspiration from. Baldwin grew up with many
religious teachings, as his adoptive father, David Baldwin, was a preacher. Though the relationship
between father and son was not enviable, Baldwin still grew up active in his religion (James Baldwin
Biography). Baldwin, despite growing up in the Baptist church with a preacher for a father began to
convert to Pentecostalism began in his early teenage years when he accompanied friends to a
Pentecostal church, where, at the age of fourteen, he became street preacher (James Baldwin
Biography). Of those years as a preacher, Baldwin recalled, Those three years in the pulpit I didn t
realize it then that is what turned me into a writer, really, dealing with all that anguish and that despair
and that beauty. Many of his works prominently feature religion, and mimic the bible in language and
tone (James Baldwin About the Author). In Sonny s Blues, and many other of Baldwin s writings, the
figure of the musician represents a move towards an anti institutional spirituality and suggests the
ways in which Baldwin was becoming, not less secular, but move aware of the need to distinguish
between the structured religion of the church and the authenticity of a self spirituality, a

Then not just known as slaves but as Africans. Africans came from the land in which the rivers and
food for hunting flowed abundantly and their land was their land. Africans came from the land where
tribal dance and song were praises to the gods or just to rejoice in happiness. Though Africans also
kidnapped or own other slaves it wasn t in brutality and they may even have a chance to escape
because they were in their own land. When Africans were brought over to the US territories they had
no form of communication with outsiders but only within their own. And, the only way they could
hold on to land of their home was to still give way to their traditional form of dance and tribal praise.
After years of enslavement, the African slaves became Americanized and later converted to African

were field workers of inhuman tolerances, house workers, toys for the master s children, and forced
sexual objects (rape). The slaves may have not known yet how to physically escape the endeavors of

Reflections Of The Progressive And Flat Rate Tax Structure
Reflections of the Progressive and Flat Rate Tax Structure
Tax structures are complex and play a prevalent role in American society. Taxation is important to
understand because the designed tax policies are intended to foster economic stimulation and
behavior. Although economists differ on the appropriate American taxation structure, taxation
promotes both incentives and disincentives in behavioral outcomes. These differing views are debated
to whether the United States should adjust from its present progressive income tax structure, or an
alternative taxation structure, such as a proportional, or flat rate tax. Whether a progressive income tax
structure or a flat rate structure, it is essential to understand the advantages and disadvantages and its
effects on economic stimulation and behavior.
Progressive Income Tax Structure
The United States tax structure is considered a progressive income tax; a tax that takes a greater
percentage from the income of high income earners than it does from low income individuals (Hyman,
2014). Essentially, progressive income tax is an effective mean of income redistribution among the
various wage earnings. The amount of income tax an individual owes is based on both the filing
status, deductions, and income level. Many consider progressive taxation as the favorable tax structure
system because it helps the government to yield more taxes, or revenue, as well as protect the lower
income individuals from the burden of high taxes.

Chimpanzees Exhibit Culture Through Social Interaction
The concept of culture to many individuals may be perceived as a combination of language, beliefs,
norms, values and customs shared amongst individuals; passed along generations to be carried out
within a society. In a society, individuals make up social groupings that form ideas, behaviors and
materials objects that encompass what they define as culture. Culture is not only essential for survival,
but for growth and communication; through interaction, observation and imitation our behavioral
patterns thus create culture. Since culture is such a tool kit for survival, it does not come as a surprise
that culture is apparent in animals. Animal culture refers to the theory of social interaction, through
means of learning, artifacts, behavior patterns, animals such as chimpanzees, pass their knowledge
through generations, much like humans do. Throughout this paper I will begin to identify that similar
to humans, chimpanzees exhibit culture. By looking at norms, behaviors, attitudes, and comparing to
those of human characteristics, I will prove chimpanzees learn culture through social interaction.
Culture has a strong influence on a variety of aspects in our lives; many may know it to be an aspect
uniquely acquired by humans. The debate drives onto scrutinize if apes, such as chimpanzees are
influenced by culture and its impact on chimpanzee social groups. The concept of social learning has
become such a popular source in distinguishing if animals, do in fact exhibit culture.

Two Similarities And Differences Between Germany And China
Germany, a western country is well known for beer, sausage and innovative technology. China, an
eastern country is well known for delicious food, martial arts and low priced products. Everyone
knows they are completely different. However, can you raise some concrete examples showing their
difference? And is it true that both do not have a single similarity at all? Though, they have certain
similar aspects if you look closer. One obvious difference between Germany and China is the food
habit. German tends to have cool food for breakfast, which comprises bread, cheese and cold meat like
ham and salami, whereas the Chinese tend to have hot food at the beginning of the day, such as
congee, which is a thick, white porridge made of rice and water. ... Show more content on

Both countries view family as a key aspect of their life. German have a strong bond with family. For
example, everybody goes back home for reunion at Christmas and Easter. Family would spend time
together for enjoying the long holiday. Chinese also emphasize family gathering and reunion, just as
German do. During the Spring Festival, a number of Chinese would travel from the city they are
working at back to their hometown in order to celebrate and gather, given the fact that the Spring
Festival is the most important festival to Chinese. Furthermore, both societies show a great respect to
elders. There is a Chinese saying, An old in a home is like a treasure of a family. Chinese view the
elder as an experienced and alive encyclopedia more than an encumbrance in the society. Similarly,
German are always willing to help the senior citizens. German help those citizens is common in
public, like on buses and at restaurants. The youngsters would give up their seats, or helping the elders
getting on and off the bus. The politeness to senior citizens could be also shown from the German
language. People would use Sie , which is a polite and formal form to address other, Herr and Frau to

channels. As granddaughters of the Hilton Hotels founder, Conrad Hilton, Paris and Nicky waltzed

their very own spotlights shining on their day to day activities. It didn t matter if they were
questionable or noteworthy or special. All of America wanted to watch the trust fund train wreck to
see what would become of it in the real world. While trust fund babies can be entertaining and they

An Intervention Designed Promote Appropriate Classroom...
Mild behavior (Redirection, interrupting, talking while teacher is talking) 1.Token economy (earn
tickets or money for prize or preferred activity) Overview: A token economy is an intervention
designed to promote appropriate classroom behavior. Students are rewarded for selected behaviors
with a token. They have the opportunity to cash in for a desired item or activity once they have earned
a set number of tokens. Tokens may be awarded over a period of time for acceptable effort and work
(Shea Bauer, 2012). The tokens provide immediate feedback for positive behavior and earning
multiple tokens will give more choices of a reward at the designated purchasing or cash in time. The
teacher should determine what behaviors earn students a token (i.e. raising a quiet hand). The desired
behaviors are explained to students using positive terms and posted where they are easily visible. A
physical token should be chosen, such as a raffle ticket or paper coin. Students should be aware of
what they are able to buy with their tokens (i.e. pencils, extra break time). The prizes should be based
on student interests. Para Use of Strategy: Paraprofessionals can provide input on target behaviors
based on observations. Once the teacher has gone over the rules with students, paras can help enforce
the intervention by reminding students of the rules and distributing tokens as students earn them. The
tokens should be given directly following an appropriate behavior.

Examples Of Brand Logo
The brand logo is part of the visual brand identity (Abratt, R. and Kleyn, N., 2012) and refers to the
accompanying sign or symbol (Brassington, F. and Pettitt, S., 2006) that represents the brand name
and company. The design of logo is very important; logo design play an important role in influencing
brand attitude among the target market. Logo must be design to fulfill what company or the brand
image is to convey correct message to consumers. Some logos also design creatively and have some
hidden message.
Example like the logo design of FedEx Corporation, FedEx is an American global courier delivery
services company. The logo of the company look like simple, but actually between the word E and X

food and Beverage Company which is established at year 1987, their famous product is 3 in 1 instant
coffee and cereal drink. The previous logo of the company is a red color word of the company name
Super surrounded with the green wheat symbol; the new logo changed by the company in recent year
is red in color background with white in color of Super word with a yellow curve below the word. The
new logo was totally different with the previous one which the company was use for many years, this

product to bring up to date to consumers, but this only work for the loyal consumers who was always

product when their needed will not notify and they might switch to the others competitors brand, this

Aristotle And Heidegger s Views On What A Human Or Beings...
Aristotle and Heidegger have conflicting views on what a human or beings are. Although, there are
some similarities to each of their set of ideas. Aristotle has a clear hierarchical framework classifying
the differences between humans, animals, and plants. Heidegger opposes this strict definitions by
discussing this idea of Dasein which states of being there. Although, their approaches to this topic are
different with the types of question one asks and how they theorize about what is a being. There is key
similarities that they discuss almost two thousand years apart. Aristotle and Heidegger are two
philosophers that have tackled the enormous question, what is it to be a being? This paper discusses
the two different approaches to defining this long standing question. Aristotle asks many what
questions when talking about what is a living being. He discusses us as a specific type of animals and
how it relates to animals, plants and nonliving things. There is an hierarchy when discussing the
differences between these things. For instance, all living things can ensouled destructible mobile
substances. This means, all living substances can die and their body can disintegrate when no soul is
in them. The essential features of being an animal is that it has a soul but not a rational soul compared
to a human being. As stated in Arwin and Fine (1996), An animal is a living item that has perception.

A Career as a Pharmacist Essay
The flow of the medical community is dependent on every person employed there. The harmony it
creates does not only come from the doctors or nurses, but the janitors, surgeons, receptionists, and
even the pharmacists. Each job is necessary in order for the hospitals to function properly; for
instance, the doctors diagnose the patient with their illness, prescribe them medication to cure it, and
send them to the pharmacist, who then gives them their medication and sends them home. However,
some jobs are overlooked more than others and do not receive the proper credit, like the pharmacist.
Pharmacists are recognized for dispensing and sorting drugs, but their jobs help educate patients over
their prescription and uphold the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This career goes unnoticed because many do not see the importance of it. Without this field, the
balance in the medical community would be disrupted due to patients not receiving their medication to
sustain their life. Although this career may seem easy, there are important characteristics one must
hold in order to be a successful pharmacist. The characteristics to become a pharmacist cannot be
learned in college, it must be emphasized throughout the adolescent years. Some important features
one needs to focus on are memorization, organization, being meticulous, and have a strong
understanding of math and science. In the article Top Skills You Need to be a Pharmacist , the author
states, Before the pharmacist fills the prescription, they need to remember everything they learned

effects and possible drug interactions (Hart). Memorization is essential in order to be successful in this
industry and is difficult to do. The organization skills of a future pharmacist must be top notch because
this field is based on it; medications need to be categorized by name, dosage amount, and amount of
pills. Paying close attention to details is necessary as well because if there is

Transcendentalism In Emerson And Henry Thoreau And Emerson
I did not wish to live what was not life. (Thoreau 175) Is the life you are living the one you were
meant to live? Or are you caught up in the whirlwind of societal expectations, worries, and doubts?
Our ability to engage with life can seemingly drown in social expectations and burdens of life, moreso
now than ever. Fearing the possibility of not truly living, Henry Thoreau and Ralph Emerson
spearheaded a new philosophy and way of thinking, Transcendentalism. This approach to life believes
that a person can transcend the mundane and repetitive through living life fully awake, achieved by:
simplifying one s life, becoming self reliant and independent, and communing with nature. Thoreau
desired, to live deep and suck out the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan like as to put to
rout all that was not life, (175) and the aim of one s life is to remain fully awake. Thoreau and
Emerson had marginal differences in their approaches to the main facets of Transcendentalism,
simplicity, self reliance, and nature. While these facets hold some value for Christians, wholeheartedly
buying into this perspective can be dangerous as simplicity becomes the road to salvation rather than
Christ; self reliance becomes selfish and arrogant; and nature is given God like qualities. Simple
living. The ascetic lifestyle. Such a life does not even occur to most people, but for Emerson and
Thoreau, simplicity facilitates a higher thought process, something necessary to be fully aware

Carpetbaggers Research Paper
Who were the Carpetbaggers? Following the Civil War four million slaves in the United States were
granted their freedom, immediately after the Union Victory America experienced a period known as
Reconstruction , defined by its efforts to rebuild the country and integrate African Americans into
society as citizens. During this era, radical reconstruction began to gain popularity in the northern
states and through this form of reconstruction the 14th amendment was ratified, giving equal
protection to all citizens, the 15th amendment was approved and gave African Americans the right to
vote, and public education systems for former slaves were placed (Orson). As radical republicans took
control over reconstruction, recently arrived northerners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The name itself comes from the type of luggage these northerners would carry with them, as they
resembled a satchel (or carpetbag) of possessions (McGuigan). These individuals viewed the south as
a new frontier filled with endless chances to acquire wealth, and while many carpetbaggers migrated
for economic purposes, there was a percentage who considered themselves reformers and possessed a
genuine desire to help out the south. Nevertheless, carpetbaggers quickly became an unstoppable force
and infamously made their mark in society, as they became wealthy plantation owners who hired
freedmen as well as white southerners for labor they contributed to the massive agricultural practice
which dominated the south: sharecropping. Sharecropping was a new form of slavery, though slaves
were technically free they eventually needed to work and provide a stable income for themselves and
their family, so slaves who did not return to their old masters turned to carpetbaggers for employment.
Through sharecropping families would rent a small part of land and work that land, in return portions
of the crop would go back to the land owner towards the end of the year. The loophole in the system

The Intolerable Island
The Intolerable Island
Just before boarding a boat to Alcatraz, I noticed a sign that said that in 1933 Sanford Bates, the
director of U.S. Bureau of Prisons, said, Alcatraz should be reserved for desperate or irredeemable
types of individuals. I immediately came to the conclusion that this had to be true after my first glance
at the island as I could not possibly imagine standard criminals being deplorable enough to be sent to
rot in the miserable place they call Alcatraz. No, these had to be the criminals that were so appalling
they could not even reside in normal prisons. The killers and the kidnappers and the robbers may have

As I hurried up the pathway that was as steep as the grand canyon, I felt like I was completely out of
shape since I was having an extremely strenuous time trudging along the almost perpendicular
walkway compared to the elderly couple in front of me. I attempted to imagine how the inmates must
have felt when they first got to Alcatraz and were forced to traipse up the walkway with chains
clanging around their feet and hands as guards surrounded them as an enraged wind tugged at their
hair and clothes while chilling them to the bone. I wondered if they were regretting their actions or
regretting that they had got caught. The predictable answer would be the latter since one had to be a

Immediately after the main entrance appeared in my eyesight, I realized they were giant guards who
were once put in charge of regulating some of North America s egregious criminals. Now all chipped

more about the nefarious convicts that was housed here many years ago. A feeling of
apprehensiveness swept over me as I stared at the intimidating doors as big as the Eiffel Tower.

warning. Additionally, the once constant, calm crashing of

The Social Influences of the Visual Entertainment Media
American culture has a bi directional relationship with the visual media, in which expressions in
television and film manifest in society but social norms also manifest on the screen. Therefore, visual
media in the United States actually has the potential to alter social norms and interactions. The
television shows that were popular in the 1950s and early 1960s reflect the conservative family values
that were popular at that time in American history. The Brady Bunch, for example, shows a happy go
lucky white family, and highlights the suburban American dream. More contemporary shows show
how American social values and norms have evolved since the 1950s. In Will and Grace, gay
characters feature prominently to reflect the fact that Americans are coming out of the closet and
staying out. There are ample examples of how television reflects social norms, while actively working
to shape those norms as well.
For instance, the 1980s show The Cosby Show was one in which the middle class African American
family was portrayed for the first time on television. The production was a deliberate attempt to teach
new values that would help eliminate the standard stereotypes of African Americans that do not fit into
the white dominant culture. By producing The Cosby Show, Bill Cosby and other entertainers were
actively shaping the values and worldviews of Americans. In a more direct way, children s television
shows on PBS such as Sesame Street are written so that characters convey

National Security Agency Values
We all value our privacy, and we all know that privacy can conflict with other important social values.
However, in this increasingly digital and technological world, we are more susceptible than ever to
government intrusion of our digital communications and data. This came to light in June 2013, when
former National Security Agency (NSA) employee Edward Snowden revealed thousands of classified
documents detailing the intrusive mass surveillance and bulk data collection of the NSA to journalists
and subsequently the American public. As a result, widespread distrust and questioning of the
American government s data collection programs grew among American citizens and bipartisan

they defended mass surveillance as a crucial means of counterterrorism and maintaining national

would slow down the ability of the NSA and other agencies to lawfully acquire information necessary
to counterterrorism efforts. Although also against the Freedom Act, liberals like Bernie Sanders
opposed the act for different reasons. Strong privacy supporters like Sanders denounced the act for not
doing enough for privacy rights and argued that it would have been a better alternative to have

How The Research Was Analysed
How the research was analysed.
It was important at first to read through the data to digest the information. Then time was spent in
thinking through the information gathered before reading through it again carefully. Through reading
and rereading, implied meanings were gathered and links were found in the field notes and journals.
The data was cross searched for patterns and dividing the data by type. Data was strengthened when it
was repeated in more that one case and in more than one method (Soy, 2006).
Analysis and findings. Past and present leadership styles.
During conversations noted down through field notes, I began to reflect on my own past employment:
My first job in early years 15 years ago was the complete opposite to the setting I work at now. There
was no leading, staff were completely managed and so were the children. Practitioners were not
expected to involve themselves in any day to day running of the playgroup nor use any initiative.
There was no key people and interests of children were not followed. Planning was set for each week
of the year and did not change or deviate from the pre planned week (Reflective journal, 11th May
2014).
My past employment has given me an understanding of management and leadership from first hand
experiences, this then lead to reflection on the research setting:
The playgroup was originally run by two partners, Diane and Wendy. Their style of leadership was

Both the novel and the film include the same main characters but he is portrayed differently in the

he likes children much like the ones that accompany them to the zoo like Tim and Lex. In the novel,
his lack of knowledge of not realizing that T rex vision is based on movement is not evident in the

Cadbury s Dairy Milk chocolate bar, a product that is known around the world; In 1824, John Cadbury
opened a grocer s shop at 93 Bull Street, Birmingham... The Cadbury manufacturing business was
born in 1831... In 1905, Cadbury Dairy Milk is launched (Cadbury, 2015). This report will cover a
range of consumer behavior theories and how these theories help Cadbury s attract and retain
consumers. It will also include a marketing mix analysis in which at least two alternative marketing
models will be included.
3.0 Main Body
3.1 Consumer Behaviour
In this section I will be discussing relevant consumer behaviour theories and then providing a more in
depth analysis of how Cadbury utilise these.
3.1.1 The Decision Making Process
The decision making process has five steps that simply display buyer behaviour, and logically goes
through, step by step, the process of a consumer buying a product.
The first step in this model is problem recognition; this comes when the consumer becomes aware of
the problem , they then develop needs or wants that they want to be satisfied. Applying this to
Cadbury s it shows that the first stage, problem recognition, would be the consumer s

Wise Blood Quotes
There are many different ideas and thoughts on religion and anti religion. There is not a certain set
amount of religions, but rather a broad spectrum of them. In Wise Blood, the author Flannery O
Connor, created a character who has developed different beliefs throughout his life. Hazel Motes, or
Haze, was born into a Christian family with a grandfather who was a preacher. He had intent to
become one himself until WW2 drastically altered his beliefs. Haze entered the war as a Christian, but
came back an atheist. Hazel, newly released from the Army, has fled after finding his family home
abandoned (Harris). Throughout this novel, Hazel has a hard time with his mind changing between
what he wants to believe and what he actually believes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the time he gets back from WW2, he creates the Church Without Christ which is him preaching
his anti religious beliefs on the streets. Throughout his time in Taulkinham, Haze keeps seeing Jesus in
his mind, sees signs of Christianity everywhere, and is mistaken as a preacher on multiple occasions.
In the essay, Jesus, Stab Me in the Heart! : Wise Blood, Wounding, and Sacramental Aesthetics, the
author Robert H. Brinkmeyer, talks about Hazel not being able to escape Jesus. Identifies Haze as a
Christian malgre lui whose integrity lies in his not being able to escape from his haunting vision of
Christ (Brinkmeyer, 71). As Brinkmeyer suggests here, Hazel continues to see Jesus in his mind, but
as a ragged figure. The boy didn t need to hear it. There was already a black wordless conviction in
him that the way to avoid Jesus was to avoid sin. He knew by the time he was twelve years old that he
was going to be a preacher. Later he saw Jesus move from tree to tree in the back of his mind, a wild
ragged figure motioning him to turn around and come off into the dark where he was not sure of his
footing, where he might be walking on the water and not know it and then suddenly know it and
drown (O Connor, 16). Along with these appearances, Hazel encounters many religious and Christian
related signs. These appearing signs create

The Problem Of Teenage Girls
They Are All Beautiful Not a lot of people truly know how hard it is for teenage girls to live up to the
standards presented to them. Seventy four percent of teenage girls say there is a lot of pressure when it
come to pleasing everyone (Girls Inc, The Supergirl Dilemma). That percentage is astronomically
high. Females this young should not have to worry about things as superficial as looks at this age.
Teenage years are supposed to be the best years of a person s life and time should not be wasted on
worrying about body image. The pressure imposed on teenage females to adhere to a fictional standard
of beauty has many negative consequences including: eating disorders, low self esteem, and mental
disorders. Teenage girls are targeted by the media the most. Ads showing thin, successful women with
clear skin and money bombard young women on a daily basis and because a majority do not look that
way, these young ladies feel worthless. Teenagers pick up on those not subtle clues that to be perfect
includes being smart, thin, have clear skin, and long hair. This age group is where kids become more
aware of celebrities and media images as well as how other kids look and how they fit in ( D Arcy
Lyness, PhD). They are taking in everything that is presented to them and no one realizes just how
much it is affecting them. Body image is something that is important to them and if they are not
comfortable with how they look, they become uncomfortable, awkward, and

Texas Holdem Excellence Essay
Texas Holdem Excellence
How do we define odds to ourselves? Are they things that happen because they are suppose to or are
they things that were written and statistics made them happen. Odds and statistics play major roles in
almost every event in life. They affect everything from who we marry and how long it lasts right down
to what shoes we wear. These odds and statistics are very noticeable to everyone especially in a game
of Texas hold em poker. The game has some skills involved but the odds still apply to the type of cards
a player is dealt in order to use his skills. This poker game is new and is played by many but only
mastered by a few. I happen to look at myself as some one who has mastered the game.

I have never been so ready to play Texas holdem in my entire life, and I knew I was going to win.
Around seven that evening we all showed up at brads. The cars filled the street of the quiet community
to the point people were walking half a mile to get to his house. When I walked in to his extremely
extravagant house I heard all the commotion downstairs. There were people yelling all kinds of things
and all of this before the poker even began. As I walked down stairs I was greeted by brad and his
brother Brian. Brad said Hey buddy how s it going? Followed by You have the cash so we can put you
in a bracket. I replied back Not much, and of course I have the cash, I wouldn t leave home with out it.
He then continued to tell me that I was in bracket four which had some pretty good players but a lot of
new comers to the game. I was looking forward to my first table.
This game of Texas holdem is a new age of poker the basic way the game is played is as follows. First
the dealer deals each player two cards and the player then bets on the cards in his or her hand. After
each player acts the dealer burry s the top card then deal the flop which is the first three cards face up

Summary Of The Movie Hidden Figures
The movie Hidden Figures is based on the remarkable true story of African American women working
for NASA in Hampton, Virginia 1961. With all their hard work and determination, they did the
calculations and equations for the shuttle launches of Friendship 7, Apollo 11, and other Space
missions. One out of these women was a brilliant mathematician named Katherine Gobel Johnson. As
a young child, Gobel she was recognized for her high intellect and was recommended to an alternative
school so they can see what she can really do. At first, Katherine s parents were hesitant because of the
cost to send an African American child during that time but the teachers made a collection and full
scholarship for Katherine to go. During the movie, young Katherine was presented to solve the
equation Katherine solved the equation and the answer was x=1, 7, 3, and 1/2. Katherine graduated
high school at age 18, then went to West Virginia State College now called West Virginia State
University. She graduated summa cum laude with degree in Mathematics and French in 1937. Next,
she became the first female African American to attend West Virginia University Graduate School.
With her superb mathematical intellect, Katherine became a computer at NASA. On the article called

Status Quo, From High School Musical
When you first referred to this assignment, I immediately thought about the song called Status Quo
from High School Musical. This was one of my favorite movies when I was a teenager. The song
plays in the movie while Gabrielle s friends are telling her that if she dates Troy, the popular
basketball player, it will mess us the status quo. In a cute dance number they break out in song in the
cafeteria singing. From watching that movie, I already had an understanding of what I needed to
reflect on.
I am a very organized person. At the beginning of the semester, I read through the syllabus. I knew
that we would have a reflection paper on the course, so I have been preparing all semester to write this
paper. Every chapter I read and summary I completed, I would jot down concepts and ideas that stuck
with me. I took this class because it was a requirement for my ASL minor. I did not realize what I was
going to learn and I think that worked out well in the end.
In August, I was aware of Deaf culture. I knew the difference between little d and big D of deaf. I had
been exposed to certain aspects through my past professors like Danny Roush, who is a CODA. This
campus has a tight knit bond between the Deaf community and students. EKU has an extremely
credible ASLIE department. They have even took advantage of the Living Learning Communities and
have a Deaf floor in Walters Hall. I was exposed everything, but I was an outsider looking in.
When a person learns ASL, they are

Sarah and Isabella: Jesse Owens 1936 Berlin Olympics, takes a stand. (Title) by Isabella Jebran and
Sarah Fenstermacher
Sarah: As Jesse Owens once said, We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into a
reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self discipline, and effort. This quote is
saying that before you can make your dreams come true, you must work hard and not stop until you
reach your dreams. This has to do with our topic because Jesse Owens showed these traits when he
was competing in the 1936 Olympics.
Isabella: Hitler believed that his race of people would beat African Americans in the Olympics. Jesse
Owens still raced in the Olympics and won four gold medals. It is important because no matter what ...

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Exit Interview
INTRODUCTION
You just gave your notice to leave your job. In your final weeks you ll tie up all your loose ends at
work, help train your replacement, wind up your desk and say your good byes. There is also the
possibility that you ll be asked to attend thatone final meeting before you leave, which is the exit
interview.
Before leaving, in most companies, the Human Resources department will ask the person leaving to
meet with them to discuss the reasons for your quitting the job, among other things. Departing
employees may find this as an opportunity to be completely honest with their employers giving
feedback, which may be in the form of criticism, criticising or praising colleagues, airing grievances,
or applauding the company for its good practices. Others, however, might be less truthful in their
feedback. And it turns out there are advantages and disadvantages to both these approaches.

Most commonly, this interview occurs between an employee and a company. Acompany can use the
information gained from such exit interviews to understand what should be improved in the
organisation, changed, or should be kept intact. More so, acompany can use the findings from the exit
interviews to reduce employee, student, or member attrition rate and increase theproductivity and
engagement, thus helping in reducing the costs associated with employee turnover. Few notable
advantages of conducting exit interviews include shortening the recruiting and selection process,
reduction in employee absenteeism, retaining performersand reducing or avoiding possible litigation if
issues mentioned in the exit interview are addressed. It is important for each company to customize its
own exit interview in order to maintain the highest levels of validity and

Invisible Man Analysis
In the book Invisible Man, it is based in a time period where there is somewhat of a divide between
blacks and whites, and because of this lifestyle that was created by society, the main character is
caught in the crossfire. The narrator feeling invisible in this world dominated by whites, where he
feels he doesn t belong, and is frankly, invisible. The narrator goes to several different parts of the
country to use what many people admire about him, his voice. Not in a singing way but in a form of
speeches which helps bring attention to some of the societal issues and that not only he has but what
many have encountered just like him along their life s journey. During his experiences in New York
and finding his way, he is cut out from certain things that tie him back to his version of home, some
people, specifically Brother Jack, Mr. Norton, and Dr. Bledsoe and some experiences made it difficult
to feel like he was where he belonged, alienating him from certain realms of society. The narrator
faces many struggles in the beginning of the book that lead to the idea of exile and the fact that the
narrator is perhaps, invisible. Dr. Bledsoe does a good job of manipulating the narrator into thinking
he is welcomed at the University early on. You can tell from his personality that he is only in it for
himself but acts as though he is thoughtful towards other. You re nobody, son. You don t exist can t
you see that? The white folk tell everybody what to think except men like me. I tell them; that s my
life, telling white folk how to think about the things I know about... But you listen to me: I didn t make
it, and I know that I can t change it. But I ve made my place in it and I ll have every Negro in the
country hanging on tree limbs by morning if it means staying where I am. Sending the narrator off to
New York was his manipulative way of saying you re not welcome here, and giving him seven letters
was just the icing on the cake to making finding success more difficult. The narrator is unable to see
that Dr. Bledsoe is solely doing this for his own benefit and is not looking at the interest of the
narrator. Towards the beginning of the book, we meet a character who is very old school, and as
people say. a

GEK1549 Assignment 1
Part 1: Graphical Representation
Part 2: Summary of argument
In the article Fossil Fuels Improve the Planet (Epstein, 2013), Alex Epstein s main claim was that
fossil fuels should be used without restriction as they provide reliable and affordable energy that
improves the lives of mankind. Aiming to convince the reader fossil fuels should be freely used, he
first argued that the energy provided by fossil fuels is vital to the health and well being of mankind.
He supported this by stating that processes such as purifying water, mass production of medicine and

sources of energy to fossil fuels are not as effective. The argument uses inductive reasoning as Epstein
focuses on 2 alternative sources of energy and attempts to convince the reader of his argument based
on their observed limitations. The premises offered are that renewable energy such as solar and wind
is unreliable, not cost effective and also unable to be mass produced. He is able to support this with his
claim that even after years of investments from many countries renewable energy only accounts for
less than 0.5% of the planets energy. He also supports this by quoting examples of some richer
countries that have been unsuccessful in making renewable energies usable on a larger scale even after
spending large sums of money, resulting in rising youth unemployment rates as high as 50% in Spain

The At The North Texas Teen Book
Hi everyone! This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending The North Texas Teen Book Festical
in Irving, TX. It was so much fun, and honestly it was one of the best weekends of my life. This post
is just an overview of some pictures and the things I did. Let s begin! (All the bloggers/booktubers I
mention will be linked at the end!)
Friday
Friday was educator s day, but they had an author luncheon that was open to the public. The authors at
the luncheon were Sarah Dessen, Ruta Sepetys, and E. Lockhart. I met up with my friend, Avery, to go
to the event. As we were sitting in the lobby, we saw Marie Lu walk in and I started freaking out. I
wanted to go and ask for a picture, but I was too shy to go up to her. We went inside and sat at a table
close to the front (closest to the reserve author table).
As we were sitting there, I look in the corner and Ruta Sepetys (AKA ONE OF MY FAVORITE
AUTHORS) is standing in the corner. Avery and I went over to talk to Ruta, and she was absolutely
adorable. If you ever have the chance to meet Ruta, please seize your opportunity because she s
absolutely brilliant. Avery and I got a picture with her.

We finally got the courage to take a picture with Marie Lu, so here s my picture with Marie:

I was able to get my entire Legend trilogy signed by her the next day. I didn t get a chance to talk to
her during the signing because there wasn t enough time.

Servant Leadership Summary
According to Greenleaf (1970), servant leadership is based on the premise that leaders who are best
able to motivate followers are those who focus least on satisfying their own personal needs and most
on prioritizing the fulfillment of the followers needs (as cited in Linden, Wayne, Liao, Meuser, 2014).
Organizational culture is contingent on the leader s style and qualities, and how he is received by his
employees. A manager that leads by servant leadership encourages an environment based significantly
on trust, but also on collaboration and team building. Under servant leadership, a leader conducts
institutional research and is realistic about the goals put in place. In the case study written by Kirby,

I had the opportunity to serve on a hiring committee for a large financial firm. The CEO, when he had
the opportunity to mingle with his employees, was personable, and made it a point to know something
specific about each employee during these rare encounters. Being a larger firm, the CEO used
newsletters, emails, and various other tele communications as the only methods to correspond with his
employees. He reasoned that some outreach was better than none, and the employees would
instinctively know he cares; to him, this was the formula to a successful business and great innovation.
The CEO was convinced he managed a networked driven culture. On the surface, his messages were
pleasant and motivating, and when asked, he believed he encouraged innovation and positioned
employees for success. However, my committee surveyed this organization as a way to assist the CEO
with employee retention. The survey was rather unpredictable; these employees were displeased with
leadership. Similar to the case study referenced above, the CEO of this financial firm, like the radio
station owner, assumed good intent, but was oblivious to his own organization s

Summary Of On My Honor
This book is an emotional roller coaster ride. The moment you start to read this book, you can no
longer put it back down. The author of the book On My Honor made opposite characteristics for Tony
and Joel. The opposite characteristics of the two characters really caused the plot to be like an
emotional roller coaster ride. Joel has the characteristics of a cautious, smart, and usually honest boy.
(Bauer, 1) Joel yelled, CLIMB THE STARVED ROCK BLUFF? YOU VE gotta be kidding! Joel s
spine tingled at the mere thought of trying to scale the sheer river bluffs in the state park . On the other
hand, Tony is a self centered, daredevil, and unintelligent boy. (Bauer, 1) Tony just casually says,
Nobody even knows if the guy was really trying to climb the bluffs. Tony just says that as if dying on
the Starved Rock is like eating a piece of cake! In all, the details and characteristics put into the story
allow readers to understand the story a lot better.
In the beginning of the story, the basic situation Joel found himself in was, his childhood friend Tony
asking him to go to the Starved Rocks with. Joel didn t want to look like a coward, so he and Tony
went to his father getting permission for Joel to go to the starved rock with him. As a result, Joel s
father who is normally overprotective of Joel, allowed him to go to Starved Rock. (Bauer, 8), On your
