About A Year Ago, I Participated In A Mock Trial In School.
About a year ago, I participated in a mock trial in school. A mock trial is meant to
imitate a real trial, taking place inside of a courtroom with a fake jury and judge
evaluating each side. However, different to a real trial, what is being judged on is
not based upon evidence. Instead, the things that were important were what each
side does with the evidence provided in the example case we were given and our
abilities to make our point clear. Both my small, five person class and another class
from a different school were performing in the mock trial. The students in my class
and the other class both had to act the parts of both an attorney and a witness, but
because of my small class, I had the parts of two attorneys and two witnesses.... Show

Discovering this frightened me. I know that for some people this would not have
been too big of a deal, but at the time I was struggling with just reading my papers
out loud in class. There was even a time during the semester where just reading a
passage from a book out loud made me so anxious that everything seemed blurry,
even when I was able to read the words clearly just moments before. But this time I
was going to be facing a much more daunting task, something I had never
experienced before. I had never really been one for acting or performing, and I did
not know much about the legal system either. To say I was nervous would have been
an understatement.
At the thought of standing up and performing in an actual courtroom, in front of a
judge, and being evaluated by a jury, I was horrified. I spent my time wondering
how I, someone who struggled to even read a passage to a small group of friends,
could do something like this? It seemed impossible to me. From how I saw it, there
was no way I could successfully speak up and be understood in this setting. While
some people may worry about not being able to do a good job or forgetting a few
lines, I thought there was no way I could perform at all. The way I saw it, the best
case scenario was that I would be able to talk, but I would have much

Asoka s Influence On Greece And India
Greek, Macedonian, Roman and Chinese Empires absorbed many of the attributes of
India by contact through the Silk Road and Spice Trade Routes. These influences are
reflected politically, in leadership, culturally, in their ideology, geographically, with
the migration of peoples, inter regionally through trade, among the various regions,
the spread of religion, artistic, as well as intellectual pursuits, etc.
India s influence on the Greece/ Macedonia territory was of great impact religiously.
During the Indian emperor Asoka s reign, around the year 260 B.C.E , after his
conversion to Buddhism, he was so inspired that he sent out missionaries to many
areas, including the territory around Greece. (Spodek 244) Although not as widely
spread as it was in China, Buddhism was spread throughout Greece because of these
missionaries. The relationship between Greece and India was one of commodity
and friendship (Video) When the Greek King Megasthenes traveled to India, he
wrote about how the government had such respect for him and foreigners in general.
The peace in India could be attributed to Asoka s rule and the policies of peace he
enforced. Megasthenes said about the Indian people, The people enjoyed a reputation
for honesty; lying and stealing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As previously stated, Asoka sent many missionaries around the world to minister
about Buddhism and convert as many people as he could . (Spodek 244) He sent
these missionaries to Rome, and this aided the spread of Buddhism around that
time. India and Rome had constant trade going on between them, including the
popular form of sea trade. When it all comes down to it, Rome mostly wanted
spices and silk from India and India mostly wanted gold from Rome. These trades
recorded by both the government of India and the government of Rome. (Casson) It
was said, India was a well decorated area during the times of the Roman/Indian trade.

A View From The Bridge by Arthur Miller Essays
A View From The Bridge by Arthur Miller
A View From The Bridge is a play written and directed by Arthur Miller A writer
that got interested in a lower part of Manhattan which is across the Brooklyn Bridge
from the richer part of New York City where the play is set. Miller s play
concentrates on a particular community full of Sicilian immigrants. This community
has responsibilities towards one another, they look out for each other, but soon a
character s betrayal casts a shadow on the rest of the community, the same character
that is led by fate towards a destiny that cannot be escaped.

This tells us that Eddie wants to face up to Marco, that he s not afraid of him, even
though we found out that Marco is stronger than Eddie in the past scenes.
Just before Marco comes in, Beatrice plays an interesting role. Miller uses her
character to make the tension, by her trying to get Eddie to calm down and to play
the peacemaker, but the main role she plays in this scene is that what she tries to
get out of Eddie. She comments on how Eddie wants something. Eddie yells that
Marco s got my name , but Beatrice realises that Eddie wants something else. The
tension breaks out when Beatrice yells to Eddie, you can never have her! This is
what Eddie really wanted, Catherine, to be his and not anyone else s, including
Rodolfo, even though she id his niece. The way Eddie is shocked, horrified and has
his fists clenching , shows that he is angry with Beatrice for saying that. At this point,
the audience are shocked and worried to how Eddie will react to this.
As Marco enters calling for Eddie, we can feel the tension mount up, because when
Marco calls out for Eddie, all characters stand transfixed for an instant , as if they
don t know how to react to this. But as the characters realise what is going on, Eddie
emerges from the apartment to get back his name and show the neighbourhood what
a liar Marco is. The audience would start to worry when the two characters (Marco

Summary Character Descriptions of East of Eden
East of Eden Summary amp; Character Descriptions
Because East of Eden is a novel woven together of many people and many stories, it
is an especially difficult novel to summarize. It is impossible to draw character
sketches without interweaving them with the storyline, thus, I have combined the
characters descriptions and plot summary. The book opens by describing the lives of
two very different families in very different parts of America. First the Hamiltons, a
patriarch built around the wise but impractical Samuel, who emigrated from Ireland
in the early 1900 s to start a new life in America in the Salinas Valley. He owns a
poor farm where he and his wife Liza raise a family of nine children supported by his

Charles has fathered fraternal twins, but Cathy bites Samuel while he is delivering
her children. As if her behavior to Samuel was not odd enough, as soon as she is
able to get out of bed Cathy tries to leave Adam. When Adam tries to stop her, she
shoots him in the shoulder with his own gun. Cathy runs away and Adam sinks
further and further into a depression. A Chinese servant raises the boys for Adam but
they remain unnamed. The Chinese servant, Lee, is the character Steinbeck uses to
initiate philosophical discussions in the novel. While Lee pretends around most
people to be unable to speak or understand English, he was actually raised in a
Presbyterian home and is an accomplished scholar. When, at 15 months, Samuel
Hamilton learns the twins have not been named, he goes to the ranch Adam once
dreamed could be an Eden and literally knocks sense into Adam.
After Samuel s visit Adam begins to come out of his daze. Samuel, Adam, and Lee,
the Chinese servant, begin to discuss names for the twins. The men discuss the story
of Cain and Abel and by dusk the boys are named Caleb (known as Cal) and Aaron
(who later changes his name to Aron). Note again the symbolism of

Description and Challenges of the London Bus System

Introduction
Since the introduction of bus service tendering in London in the mid 1980s, there
has been, according to London Transport Buses (1999), a dramatic improvement in
both the quality of bus services provided and the value for money achieved.
However, the rules of the game have changed considerably over time. Whereas in
the first instance a gross cost regime was used to let just a part of the network to
public sector operators, in recent years the whole of the network has been let in ...

The last of these contracts expired earlier this year. To complete the process, the
Tendered Bus Division started to let competitive net cost contracts alongside
competitive gross cost contracts, the aim being to use the type of contract in any
particular case which delivered the best value for money and incentivised operators
to improve service quality. As of June 1999, only gross cost contracts have been
offered.
Impacts of tendering
London Transport Buses (1999) claims a dramatic improvement in both the quality
of bus services provided and the value for money achieved. Other authors have
assessed these claims: White (2000), White and Tough (1995), Kennedy (1995b).
Salient features include: cost reductions of 47% per bus mile between 1985/6 and
1998/9 (White, 2000); a reduction in the number of bids per contract from 7 in
early 1995 to 3 in late 1996 (ibid.); cheaper costs to the tendering authority of about
10% per bus mile for gross contracts rather than net (White and Tough, 1995); and
lower bid prices as the number of bids exceeds four (Kennedy, 1995b).
PART B: PRINCIUPLES OF BUS TENDERING
We mean by tendering the allocation [by government agency] of a protected or
exclusive right to exploit or carry out an activity (Baldwin and Cave, 1999) such that
consumers or the public gain an advantage for example, an efficiently produced and
competitively priced service (ibid.).
In the remainder of this section, we will

Relationship Between Blood And Iron

we conducted Dickey Fuller expanded testing (ADF) and Philip Perron (PP) the
leftover tests are shown in Table (4) shows the results of testing the stability

relationship between blood and iron: Granger demonstrated that the existence of a
co integration between two variables means that there is a causal relationship in
one direction at least. And therefore we conclude that the lack of a common
integration between two variables means there is no causal relationship between
them. According to Granger, if we had two time series chains can talk about the
evolution of two different phenomena over time (t) and two in this study (blood)
and (iron) If the series (blood) containing the information by which they can
improve the outlook for the series (iron). In this case we say that the variable
(blood ) causes variable (iron), One of the problems that exist in this case is that
the time series data for a variable often associated, ie, there is a auto correlation
between one variable values over time, and excluding the impact of this auto
correlation, if any, the inclusion of the same variable values for a number of time
gaps as explanatory variables in the causal relationship to be measured, it is added
to the explanatory variable for the number of time gaps as explanatory variables
values of inclusion and also

Why Is Alexander The Great Successful
Alexander the Great Alexander the Great was a very successful commander, and was
especially successful against Darius of Persia. There are many reason we see in this
battle of Gaugamela that causes Alexander to be victorious, but the main reason is
the communication level between the army. Alexander does a phenomenal job of
communicating the game plan with his army. The army was broken up into highly
trained and well disciplined units. These smaller units made it easier to communicate
with, and allowed everyone to know what was going on at all times. Alexander would
communicate and instruct his commanders of these units, and then they would train
and communicate to the men. This great leadership and communication is what made
Alexander great

Interview With a Walgreens Manager Essay
Since 1901, Walgreens has had a strong passion for customer service. The founder,
Charles Walgreens, goal was to create a drugstore that was like no other. He said
that for as many drugstores as he had worked at, he had never worked for one that
had a focus for good customer service and low prices. Walgreens has grown by
leaps and bounds since 1901 and is now recognized as the leader in the market with
over 7000 stores. Charles Walgreen had an eye for good managers. He said he was
able to pick people that he knew were smarter than him so to promote them and
make them the heads of his drugstores. As a store manager, not only is it your job to
run a store which includes ordering, customer care, and inventory control, but also it

I believe this may be one of the only job types out there where everything is up to
one person. To become a store manager is not easy. This involves longevity with
the company, college education, previous management experience, and have been
an assistant manager and executive assistant manager for a total of 3 years with
the company. While Walgreens has its credentials it expects from an applicant on
paper, my interviewee feels that it is much more than that. When asked what
KSAOs he suggests for one to be a good store manager he said number one they
must possess strong leadership. He stated that one can have 10 degrees form the
best universities and have the best interviewing skill and they might even get the
job but once in the position to succeed, they must possess leadership or they will
fail. His definition of leadership was unique. He pulled a piece of paper out of his
wallet and gave it to me. It said No one could be a great leader unless he takes
genuine joy in the success of those under him W. A. Nanc. He stated that the
company will tell you 30 things to do in a day and want them to be done by the
end of the day but it is crucial to ask yourself what is best for the customer and
make the decision. This leads to the second KASO necessary; be a decision maker.
With the economy the way it is, he suggested, and with the cutbacks that the company
has made, we have to

Dangers Of High School Football
While football is a very popular sport in high school it could easily become a very
dangerous sport. It becomes even more dangerous when it comes to football in
high school. There are many precautions that need to be taken to formulate it as
safely as possible, even then it still is difficult to make it safe if it s tackle football.
A majority of students playing football in high school are aged fifteen through
eighteen, still tremendously young meaning that their brains at this time are still
developing. If you have ever been to a football game you experience the rush of
excitement when a touchdown is made, and the sense of overwhelming anxiety
when you see your friend surrounded by paramedics out on the football field.
Football can be extremely entertaining from the tackles, field goals, and
touchdowns, however, someone s life should not be negatively affected by
playing. Football becomes a dangerous sport not only on game day, but in practices
as well. A majority of these players play rough for weeks preparing for the final
game days. According to source one, four out of every 1,000 high school football
exposures resulted in injuries... high school football players sustained a greater
proportion of season ending injuries, fractures, and concussions compared to
collegiate football players (Source 1) It is apparent that the number is particularly
small, but for high school kids and it not being professional football that is a majority
of teens getting injured,

Value System In Beowulf
Many cultures have their own way of determining the status of a person by a value
system. Although, the value system of the Anglo Saxons in the Middle Ages is quite
different than the value systems of today. The value systems, most people know,
determine status by how much money or how accomplished an individual is. This is
similar to the value system explained in the epic poem, but there are just a few
differences. The value system is determined mostly by the heroic code, in which the
main character in the epic poem, Beowulf, shows many of those characteristics of the
heroic code that a warrior knight, of that time, followed. The heroic code also helps
exemplify the culture of the Anglo Saxon in the Middle Ages by explaining the
emphasis the Anglo Saxons put on their admiration of men of outstanding courage.
In the epic, Beowulf, warrior knights are defined by a value system in which their
heroic code and status are determined by the amount of monsters they have slain.
That statement is further explained in Chapter Four of Beowulf. In which,
Beowulf explains to Hrothgar why he has come to the Danes and why he is worthy
enough to stay and battle Grendel to keep Hrothgar and his people safe. Beowulf
explains: I drove five great giants into chains, chased all of that race from the Earth.
I swam in the blackness of the night, hunting monsters out of the ocean, and killing
them one by one... (lines 419 424). Hrothgar was convinced by Beowulf s speech
and emphasis on his own

Abstract
Managed care is and has been consider an effective approach to the quality of health
care in America. There is a debate among health care professionals, government
regulatory agencies, and the public on how best to reduce the ever escalating health
care cost while delivering the best evidence based treatment methodology to our
clients. However, with the recent implementation of the Affordable Health Care Act,
many health care providers are presented with a daunting task of providing leading
edge innovations to their patients within the regulatory restraints placed on them by
this act. Also, the future trend of health care is more about accountability to the
consumers through the utilization of the consumer driven health plans with emphasis
on account Based Health Saving Plans and transparency. The major impact on the
delivery of quality care will be that the Affordable Health Care Act and how it will
affect how insurance payers implement cost containing restraints, adhere to
governmental regulations, and while delivering the best evidence medicine to the
clients they serve.
Current and Future Trends in Managed Health Care The annual cost of health care
today is approximately 6% of the median family income and in the future it is
estimated that this cost will increase faster than the nation s inflation rate.
Therefore, the providers

Wrongful Convictions Of Innocent People Essay
Unfortunately, wrongful convictions of innocent people sometimes happen in the
criminal justice system. According to a new report from the University of
Michigan Law School s National Registry of Exonerations, 2015 set a record for
the number of wrongly convicted Americans who received justice; 149 people who
were either declared innocent or cleared of their convictions or guilty pleas. Many of
them had already served long prison terms for crimes they did not commit
(Mencimer, 2016.)
There are many causes that can contribute to a wrongful conviction. Witness
misidentification is the most common cause; we know that the human mind is not
like a tape recorder, and can make mistakes. Forensic analysts presenting evidence
that has little or no scientific basis, false confessions by suspects during the
interrogation process, government officials taking steps to ensure that a suspect is
convicted despite poor evidence, testimony by people with incentives to testify, and
poorly prepared lawyers are just some of the other causes that can result in a wrongful
conviction. The death penalty case of Cameron Todd Willingham, of Corsicana, Texas,
is one that experts now agree that the evidence proves he was wrongfully convicted.
But unfortunately, he was already put to death by lethal injection.
On December 23, 1991, the Willingham family home was engulfed in flames. Stacey
Willingham was shopping for Christmas gifts, while Cameron Todd Willingham was
home sleeping at the time of the

The African American Integrationist Movement And The
Black...
Both the African American integrationist movement and Black Power movement had
common goals such as ending racial injustice towards African Americans and
advocating civil rights for African Americans in the United States. Yet, the ideologies
of the two movements and how they went about accomplishing their goals was
drastically different. While the integrationist movement relied on concepts such as
Christian Universalism and Non Violent Direct Action (NVDA), the Black Power
movement relied on more explicit means such as direct action and mobilization with
violence if necessary. In general however, it seems that both movements had well
defined overarching ideologies. For the integrationist movement, Non Violence was
the key to successful integration.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the United States, these concepts were achieved through Jim Crow laws as well as
the implementation of Ghettos. The inherent white supremacy that was present was
constant and maintained through the perpetuation of cultural inferiority among
African Americans, violence, and economic deprivation. The Black Power movement
definitely took on a rather aggressive stance when it came to goals and defining the
movement. They believed that without self determination in the African American
community, the attempt to integrate inevitably became an issue of white supremacy
and its effects rather than an issue of equality and rights for the black community.
The overarching goal was liberation from racial colonialism however, it seems that
the Black Power movement sought to emphasize that without self determination, the
goal to integrate becomes an aimless and insignificant feat. With this in mind, it could
be said that the Black Power movement reiterated that the Black Community must be
guided by their own determination to succeed rather than necessarily the idea that
racial liberation would come to them by waiting and not acting. This was intertwined
in one of Stokely Carmichael s critiques of Martin Luther King Jr s movement.
Although he respected the man greatly, he emphasized that King s argument was
flawed because the United States did not have a true conscious, unlike King noted. As
the United States had no conscious, it could be said that integration was not
necessarily achieved fully through NVDA. The Black Power movement steered the
issue away from whether or not African Americans should be nonviolent but rather
projected the idea of whether or not white Americans can acknowledge the hundreds
of years of racial violence that occurred towards African Americans. The main

The Goal Of Place Based Education Essay
Place Based education has been valuable throughout in schools and developing
children education. The goal of place education is to serve as a learning organization
for program developers, fueling internal growth and program development for the
individual organizations. Nonetheless develop an identity, disseminate evaluation
techniques, tools and approaches that can be applied elsewhere; and contribute to the
research base underlying the field of place based educationand schoolchange
(peecworks.org). It has focused on using the local community as an integrating
context for learning. This allows students to explore the world around them. Students
will gain experience in the real world and face different issues that might not be
taught in the schools. Moreover, learning the culture that students live in can give a
history to how their area grew into what it is today. One of the key factors that can
be used to be help elementary, middle and high schoolin the Sewanee area is The
Annenberg Rural Challenge.
Originally the Annenberg Rural Challenge was predominantly for urban areas in the
beginning stages. It pledged five hundred million to public schools. The action was
billed as an unprecedented challenge to an American public increasingly vocal about
the need for school improvement (Annenber,1997). It took steps to fulfill America s
obligation to educate all of the children. Students from private school backgrounds
were getting more opportunities than their public school

Interior Demolition
A Few Things You ll Want To Know About Interior Demolition When Upgrading
Your Kitchen
Removing an interior wall is often done when renovating an older home. If your
home is several years old, it may have a small kitchen that is separate from the rest
of the house. Removing a wall and making one large room out of two small rooms
will totally change the look and function of your home. Here are a few things to know
about interior demolition when it comes to upgrading your kitchen.
Obtain Proper Permits
You ll probably need a permit from your city to renovate your home. You may even
need a separate permit for interior demolition. Obtaining a permit is necessary for
avoiding fines and to make sure you won t run into problems if you decide to sell
your home in the future. You might be required to hire a contractor to ensure the job
is done safely. If you do it yourself, you ll also need to turn off utilities since your
kitchen has multiple plumbing and electrical outlets.

It s best to hire an interior demolition contractor to handle this job so you don t
affect the structure of your home by knocking out a support wall. The contractor
may need to install support beams in place of the wall, which help bear the weight
of the home. They won t take up much space so you ll still have an open kitchen.
You may also want to get help from the contractor when you remove old kitchen
cabinets, heavy countertops, and kitchen islands. One benefit of hiring a contractor is
having a crew to move out heavy building materials and having access to the
necessary tools to get the job done quickly. Demolishing and handling materials on

The Importance Of Gross Motor Skills For Young Children
Gross motor skills seem to be highly underrated in the development of children.
While we take notice of mental disabilities and severe physical impairments, we
tend to overlook the importance of gross motor skills in children. Just as a healthy
diet is critical to the development of young children, gross motor skills are
imperative to a strong, healthy start to many developmental aspects of a child. There
are many physical advantages to gross motor skilldevelopment that play a role both
in childhood and throughout the rest of that individual s lifetime. Motor skills that
are developed in infancy are essential steps to continue to build motor skills
throughout childhood (Burns et al., 2017). In order to have the best physical
potential to be able to carry out daily activities, gross motor skills are where this all
begins. To have optimal function, an individual must learn how to control their
movements with poise and rhythm. Gross motor skills are usually associated with
physical and kinetic advantages, but the social gain may be just as important for a
child s communication skills. Children all over the world use play to associate with
other children, which usually is one of their main sources of social development at a
young age (Goldstein, 2012). Unfortunately, many kids come from low income
homes and do not have the opportunity to involve themselves in sport or physical
activities, which could lead to declines in physical development, thus affecting their
gross

Photojournalism During The Vietnam War
The advent of photojournalism created new opportunities for photographers and the
public. These individuals were now able to travel anywhere to document objects and
events because of rapid technological advancements. The most significant impact of
photojournalism was its ability to attain for social change by illustrating the
problems associated with the society. It has opened up a new field that became
extremely influential in conveying social issues to the general public. Social issues

Important Qualities Of Being A Leader
What is a leader? A leader is a person who commands a group, organization, or
country. Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position
of being a leader. I have experience democratic leaderships through playing on a
high school football team, being apart of groups in college for class presentations,
being a youth leader in my church, and also being apart of a family. I have gain
important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Some of
valuable leaderships traits that I obtained and strengthened are: how to be a team
player, to be a better listener, to have more patience, to be not afraid of constructive
criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a

We ve written several books on leadership, and yet it s a rare thing to actually pause to
define leadership.
Let s start with what leadership is not...
Leadership has nothing to do with seniority or one s position in the hierarchy of a
company. Too many talk about a company s leadership referring to the senior most
executives in the organization. They are just that, senior executives. Leadership
doesn t automatically happen when you reach a certain pay grade. Hopefully you
find it there, but there are no guarantees.
Related: How to Blow Your Boss Mind
Leadership has nothing to do with titles. Similar to the point above, just because
you have a C level title, doesn t automatically make you a leader. We often stress the
fact that you don t need a title to lead. You can be a leader in your workplace, your
neighborhood, or your family, all without having a title.
Leadership has nothing to do with personal attributes. Say the word leader and most
people think of a domineering, take charge, charismatic individual. People often think
of icons from history like General Patton or President Lincoln. But leadership isn t an
adjective. We don t need to be extroverted or charismatic to practice leadership. And
those with charisma don t automatically lead.
Leadership isn t management. This is the big one. Leadership and management are
not synonymous. You have 15 people in your downline and P L responsibility? Good

Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendments to the Constitution
Essay
CJL 4064 Amendment Project As requested by the committee chair, I have examined
the 4th, 5th, and 6th Amendments of our Constitution. It is imperative for the
participants of the Constitutional Convention to update, and furthermore, enhance the
Bill of Rights. The amendments were created with a valuable perspective on
individual rights in the 1700 s. Today, in 2010, our country has developed in the use
of language, our principles, and our overall society. After close examination of the
amendments, it has come to my attention that they no longer read to today s society.

Since the government is based on the framework of law, it is only fair for those that
are going to have their personal property entered be given the opportunity to have
legal council. This acts as a protection against any police interrogation as the premises
is being searched. In the past, this was not necessary in the 4th Amendment because
people felt the law never crossed the line. However, in today s society, we find that
this happens frequently. To protect the rights of a possible suspect, it is in their best
interest to have council present while having their premises searched. In specific to
the 5th amendment, changes were made due to technological advances in our society.
There has been much advancement in science, including that of DNA testing. There
is an entire investigation team that works solely on gathering information after a
crime is committed and use the information to help bring scientific answers to the
courtroom. With this information, it can help the lawyer either prove innocence or
guilt in a defendant. This was not an option when the amendments were first written.
Crime investigators are a very important addition to criminal prosecution. Science
will continue to advance in this field, and with that, it will bring more conclusive
information. It is also necessary to specify in regards to

The Death Of Willie Closed
Willie closed his eyes and prepared to feel the pain, but it didn t come. He opened
his eyes and saw a boy about his size, wrestling Archie, and winning! Then another
person stepped in front of him and punched him in the eye, nose, then stomach. He
also kicked him in both shins. You called him here to attack us! I didn t! Willie said
desperately, trying to breath. Willie could feel the blood flowing from his nose, and
down his face. Then, with all the strength he had left, and kicked the kid in the

The Importance Of English Literature
High school has been my most treasurable experience so far; a time where I have
learnt about a range of topics and developed the skills to view things from a
personal perspective. For this, I owe a great thanks to all my English teachers;
especially Mrs Hinds, who is here with us today and Mrs Lyndon, who helped
prepare us for our final stretch of school. While preparing for this speech, when I
read the assessments from the past two years, it surprised me to realise how much
I had missed the point of each of the tasks. Only now while nearing the end this
twelve year part of my life, have I realised the importance of each individual topic.
I realised that no other subject has delved into such a range of diverse matters from
the present and past. Just as in Harper Lee s quote from To Kill a Mockingbird :
People generally see what they look for and hear what they listen for . What I missed
were the fascinating features of our culture, encapsulated in varying English
literature; which of course, were obvious when studying the works of Shakespeare or
of the Romantic poets of the eighteenth and nineteenth century. But only after my
interest in the subject spiked was I able to understand that I was missing deeper
aspects hidden within all types of literature. [linking sentence] A form of literature I
used to enjoy in its most meaningless state was music. Without giving it a second
thought, I used to view music as empty entertainment until we analysed a song and

Business Ethics In The Movie A Christmas Carol
According to Omidyar Branson (2016), business ethics are called as corporate
ethics which is a set of rules that define the right and wrong behaviour. From the
research, ethics are a form of applied ethic that can be used to evaluate whether the
conduct of the people are considered acceptable and appropriate. Besides, business
ethics are the collective values of a business organization that can be used to evaluate
whether the behaviour of the collective members of the organization are considered
acceptable and appropriate. In the most basic term, a definition for business ethics
boils down to knowing the difference between right and wrong and choosing to do
what is right. A Christmas Carol(2009) is a 2009 Disney film adaptation of the Charles
Dickensnovella of the same name. It is directed by Robert Zemeckis and made by

Did you know that Beloved, is based on the true account of Margaret Garner?
Garner was a slave mother who killed her children in an attempt to eternally free
them from the chains of slavery. Morrison uses the true story of a slave mother
who is so desperate to break the cycle of misery for her children that she took their
lives with her bare hands to create a narrative that depicts the heart breaking truth
of struggles of the black woman. Other slave narratives, like Incidents, and
Narrative of Frederick touch on the topic of black mother hood and how they are
ripped from their children and forced to tend to the children of a white man.
Incidents, tells of a slave s New Year s Day and how children are sold to slave
masters across the country, never to be seen or heard from again. This reality is
enough to drive any woman mad. In Beloved, Seethe, a runaway slave, tries
desperately to shelter her children from the outside world because she fears that the
grasp of slavery will come bearing chains for them. Seethe knows too personally,
the truth of slavery and the hurt of the real world. Seethe is driven by her fear of
the past and has lost all rationality. This affects her children negatively. Seethe is
eighteen years old but has very childish tendencies. It is not until the presence of
Beloved, who is the personification of slavery, drives her from 124 and she is able to
make purposeful independent

MFM demonstrates that the natural urges and instincts of humanity cannot be
contained or regulated by an imposed system of rules and laws. Discuss.
Shakespeare s tragi comedy Measure for Measure concerns itself with human
behaviour and the need for laws to govern human appetite whilst ensuring domestic
tranquillity. The play written in the Jacobean era, set in Vienna emphasises that
natural human tendencies outweigh the laws. Firstly, the congruence between outer
actions and inner values is one of the overriding themes of the play, especially as it
is the manifest in the issue of seeing and being. Additionally, in the play, Shakespeare
presents the transformation of characters. Also, he emphasises how excessive

Here, readers interpret that appearance is synonymous to laws and natural urges to
reality. On a seeming level, there are several instances throughout the play in which
appearances deny the truth of a situation. This is encapsulated in the concept of
dramatic irony. Ironic cases of mistaken identity appear in the play, such as the
Duke s disguise and Lucio s unintentional denouncement of him as emphasizing that

which allows the least virtuous characters to seem the most upstanding. The
opposite scenario, however, is found in Isabella s personal dilemma: in order to

Archetypal Criticism In In The Time Of The Butterflies By...
The Deeper Meaning
An American poet once stated, Great literature is simply language charged with
meaning to the utmost possible degree (Pound). Every piece of literature has an
impactful underlying meaning and can be interpreted into universal symbols,
motifs, and patterns. Archetypal Criticism is a theory based off common myths,
images, and symbols in literature. The definition of an archetype can be defined as
a very typical example of a certain person or thing (Davidson). With that being said,
readers can apply Archetypal Criticism to In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia
Alvarez. Alvarez uses common character types, like the hero and the villain, and also
uses the symbol of butterflies in her novel.

Roles Of Women In The Canterbury Tales
Roles of Woman in The Canterbury Tales
The Prioress and the Wife of Bath in Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales are
presented as two extremes of femininity. While the former occupies the realm of the
delicate courtly lover, the latter is embraces traditionally masculine traits. In many
ways they are foils to one another, but, in a more important way, they very much the
same. Both are women who are not satisfied with the roles that society has
determined for them, and as such, both challenge the expectations of the patriarchal
order.

The Vampire in Folklore vs the Vampire in Literature
The vampire, from folklore to literature is described as a dead person that awakens
in the night to suck the blood out of the living . (Bartlett, pg 1) The evolution of
the vampire itself has seen drastic changes from the time of the vampire in
folklore; where he was seen as a scapegoat, being the cause of the plagues and had to
be killed to restore a healthy civilization to, Bram Stocker s literary vampire; where
the vampire had become the heroic figure and had to be blamed for all the victims

Throughout the story of Lord Byron, we find out later on that he is a vampire and
that he has very much so human characteristics. Edward is the same since he tends
to have human emotions for a girl. Carol A. Sanf sais so herself when making this
statement . twentieth century writers and directors often portray the vampire as a
more sympathetic character than he had been in either folklore or literature. (Senf,
pg 3) Although Lord Byron might not have shown sympathetic emotions, we see
him as the hero because he tries to resolve the conflicts that have arose throughout
the story. The movie Twilight does this even more by making Edward fight his
superiors for a girl he has feelings for.
Lastly we have noticed that the vampire in movies often starts to have feelings for a
girl that has become more than sexual attention. The Lilith from Stu Burns A short
history of vampire folklore is seen as a demon that has sex with men before eating
the flesh out of them. These characteristics are very familiar in folklore because
vampires would often show sexual attention before eating their victims. In the 20th

his victim into a vampire as well so that they can live happily together. Just like in

Running From the Sunset; Going East
In 1961, Dad recognized that Betsy s high school graduation presented an
opportunity for the whole family to convene on the East coast for the summer. I was
scheduled to enter a boarding school in Maine in the fall. Spending the summer in
New York meant Dad could drive me to Hebron Academy when the new school year
began in September.
You mean we re actually going to Comfort Island after all these years of talking about
it? I asked Dad.
Yes, Tad, I finally sold your mother on the idea. We will attend Betsy s graduation
from Miss Hall s School in Massachusetts then drive to Alexandria Bay to spend the
summer on Comfort Island.
I thought back to the day in 1956 when my dad and I scanned the 1885 photo of
Comfort Island with the magnifying glass. I wondered then and for the five years
that followed if we would ever make the trip there as he promised. My older sister,
Betsy, had visited Comfort Island briefly with Mom and Dad in 1948 after

years with greater accuracy. Each diary covers a five year span. The leather bound
journals are six inches high and four and one half inches wide. There are four lines

Comparative Essay David Hume vs. John Locke
Comparing John Locke against David Hume : Empiricism
John Locke and David Hume, both great empiricist philosophers who radically
changed the way people view ideas and how they come about. Although similar in
their beliefs, the two have some quite key differences in the way they view
empiricism. Locke believed in causality, and used the example of the mental
observation of thinking to raise your arm, and then your arm raising, whereas Hume
believed that causality is not something that can be known, as a direct experience of
cause, cannot be sensed. Locke believed that all knowledge is derived from our
senses, which produce impressions on the mind which turn to ideas, whereas Hume s

Hume rejected lockes theory of experiencing cause. He argued that you do not feel
the connection between your mind and arm, and thus don t sense the cause of the
muscles contracting to raise your arm. Cause, in Hume s mind, is a synthetic
experience used to explain the unobservable things in reality. To help explain he
used the billiard ball experiement. Ball A is hit and put into motion towards ball
B.When ball A collides with ball B the cause of ball B s movement is not
experienced, there is no observable connection between the two. This would mean
that there is no way to be certain that everytime Ball A collides with ball B that ball
B will move, ball A could just as likely bounce off and begin rolling in a random
direction. He believd that there is no way of knowing for certain the outcome of an
event without being able to perceive the cause.
John Locke s theory of knowledge stated that all knowledge is derived from the
senses, that are converted into impressions, that are then made into ideas, either
simple or complex. Simple ideas are ones that involve only one sense, whereas
complex ideas consist of multiple simple ideas being combined to create a vivid one.
Ideas have two qualities, primary qualities, and secondary qualities. Primary qualities
are things that are perceived the same for everyone, and secondary qualities are the
individual perceptions of

The Pros And Cons Of The Zoo
As a child, it was always an unforgettable moment anytime the family visited the
zoo. My elderly brother, who was very shy and quiet, became social because the
animals in the zoo were friendly to him. My father would always assign us
homework titled: My Experience at the Zoo. This became a routine practice which
contributed hugely to our academic performances. Zooproponents believe that they
provide education and entertainment to the public and they also protect the animals.
Zoo opponents, on the other hand, believe that zoos harm animals. The care, love,
and protection that zoos need to properly provide to these animals does not exist. For
these reasons, zoos need to be shut down.
Proponents argue that zoos provide education to the public. The question is: How
do they educate people in the scant amount of time people stay at the zoo? The
answer is: They do not educate people. On the contrary, zoos use the animals to
make a profit. According to Travel Leisure.com, about 3.2 million people visits the
zoo every year and spend less amount of time during the exhibition due to the crowd
of people. In my opinion, these people are not learning. there are many other options
available to those who would like to learn about animals. For example, the Discovery

the above methods is a better way to learn about animals because the videos, pictures,

Family values, sometimes referred to as Familial values, are traditional or cultural
values (that is, values passed on from generation to generation within families) that
pertain to the family s structure, function, roles, beliefs, attitudes, and ideals. In the
social sciences, sociologists may use the term traditional familyin order to refer
specifically to the child rearing environment that sociologists formerly called the
norm. This traditional family involves a middle class family with a breadwinner
father and a homemaker mother, raising their biological children. Any deviation from
this family model is considered a nontraditional family . Nontraditional families,
nevertheless, make up the majority of American households, as of now. According to
Oxford English Dictionary, family values means: [n.] values attributed to or derived
from family life; [spec.] values allegedly learnt or reinforced within a traditional,
close family... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Filial is the oldest one in Chinese ethical category. Filial appeared in Zhou Dynasty
(1046B.C. 256B.C.), and the original meaning is respecting ancestry, repayment and
raising up children. Then Confucius (551B.C. 479B.C.) change its religious and
philosophical significance into the only means that you should take good care of
parents. In Book of Filial Piety , the moral values that reflect family child relationship
had been fully politicized. Confucianism had been used to run a country and teach all
the literati since the Western Han Dynasty (206B.C. A.D.24). Its dominance had
lasted for few thousand years until the May 4th Movement of 1919. But, nowadays,
Chinese students still need to learn some part of the Confucianism since their
childhood. This makes the Confucianism still has a great influence on political,
economy, ideology, etc. As the core part of the Confucianism, Filial culture has been
developing for few centuries, and has rooted in Chinese daily

Essay on Courtroom Procedures and the Role of the
Prosecution
During a trial, there are many rules, procedures, and codes of conduct that must be
observed. These are in place to allow a trial to proceed more efficiently and fairly for
both the defense and prosecution. According to one author, Police, prosecutors, and
criminal court Judges see too much crime, so they tend to see crime everywhere. We
need rules to control their conduct, Judges to carefully apply those rules, and other
Judges to review those decisions (law article.net). Courtroom procedures are
important because, without them, defendants and prosecution alike could be treated
unfairly. These procedures give a standard format for trials that must be followed to
ensure that all parties have an equal opportunity to present their... Show more content

Courtroom procedures begin before the day of the trial arrives. In a criminal case,
the pre trial proceedings vary based on the severity of the crime. With a simple
misdemeanor case, which could only result in minor jail time or a fine, the pre
trial procedures are short and simple. Usually, the defendant is called to a pre trial
hearing where they are read the charges pressed against them and are asked to give
either their plea of guilty and be given a sentencing date, not guilty and be given a
trial date and bail amount, or to plead no contest (American Bar Association).
However, in a felony case that could lead to a serious incarceration sentence, the
procedure becomes more complex. There is a first hearing that is similar to that of
a misdemeanor, except that a plea is not given. This is done at the second
preliminary hearing to determine if there is actually enough evidence to charge the
defendant with a crime. If there isn t enough, the charges are dropped, but if there is,
the case moves along in the process (American Bar Association). Also prior to the
trial, a jury of 6 to 12 people must be selected. Each jury member must go through a
screening process to ensure that they have no connection to the trial, or any
preconceived opinion of it that could keep them from being impartial to either side. A
juror can be removed if they have any connection to the trial, and the defense

Eureka Stockade Informative Speech
Today I am here to present a pitch about the Eureka Stockade. With help from you
financially, this documentary will be very successful and I feel that it is an important
topic to cover as it was a significant stepping stone in Australians history.
The Eureka Stockade was a rebellion by gold miners at Ballarat, Victoria, Australia
(December 3rd 1854). This rebellion was very important for Australia becoming a
nation as it resulted in one of the greatest victories for equality, fairness and it was the
birth place of the Australian political system. This presentation will explore the
impact the Eureka stockade had on the future of Australia. These impacts will be
examined through information on gold licenses, key individuals and the origins of
Australian democracy.
One of the key individuals involved, the leader of the miners during the stockade,
was Peter Lalor. Peter Lalor had a leading role in the Eureka stockade. He was the
only crook to make it to parliament. Lalor stepped in to help the miners protest
against gold licences and the fees. Peter Lalor got a seat in parliament, claimed the
right to vote and got miners licenses cheaper. A great quote from Peter Lalor is And

Diggers had to pay fees for their licenses each month, with police coming around to
gold sites often to check if everyone had one. As the government started making the
fee prices higher and higher, that s what sparked protests against the people in
charge. There is a gold mining license in display at the National Museum of
Australia. The license that is on display would have all of the information on it
regarding dates during the Eureka stockade, what the licence was about and it would
include the regulations of having a licence, which would back up the claims of
police raids for not having a

New Teachings About The Church
The church was born Multicultural.
I have read this passage of Acts for many years and now I find new teachings about
the church in this modern era. The first community was a multicultural one. That is
the reason what the Bible is amazing for, when we read it seeking with confidence
the answer for our questions, we find it and this come still from the same passage. Do
not mind the language, the culture, do not mind any else, you get the answer.
Acts 2.1 12, 6:1 7
The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost (Slides 2 4) 1When the day of Pentecost came;
they were all together in one place.
2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled
the whole house where they were sitting.
3 They saw what seemed to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, It would not be right for
us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables.
3 Brothers, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the
Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them
4 and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.
5 This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and
of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from
Antioch, a convert to Judaism.
6 They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.
7 So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly,
and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.
Slide Five
According to the Bible, once on the oldest times the humanity was only one. The
pretension of reaching God finished with that unity. That is the history of the Babel
Tower. The teaching is, when human being wants to reach God by itself, they wrong

The Field Of Physical Therapy
The day to day writing in the field of Physical Therapy varies depending on the
audience. The audience determines the purpose of the writing and writing style.
Physical Therapists (PT) use evidence based exercises and activities to rehabilitate
their patients in order for them to reach their unique goal. Since PT s work with both
medical professionals and patients, they must adjust their writingto be able to
communicate effectively. PT s are just one of the many people in the medical field
that may work with a particular patient so it is important that the communication
between the different layers of the medical field are precise and clear. Writing to a
patient is also important because they are the person who is being directly affected...

The main audience a PT is writing to are people who have extensive understanding
or are in the field. Their purpose is to use that information for billing and to help
make medical decisions which both greatly impact the patient. Due to the potential
impact of their understanding of the PT s writing, the writing must be specific,
descriptive, and contain jargon. A specific documentation layout named SOAP was
created for PT s to use to make sure all essential information is gathered. All PT s
follow the SOAP note format to document patient visits. SOAP notes were created
to help keep consistency through the field and to keep patient records organized and
secure. SOAP notes are written to help the PT critically think about the next step in
their client s rehabilitation process. The format is used to communicate information
to other providers of care, to provide evidence of patient contact and to inform the
Clinical Reasoning process (Lowe SOAP Notes ). SOAP documentations aid in
informing and proving PT s work. The content is straight to the point and remains
strictly factual which causes shorter sentences. SOAP stands for subjective,
objective, assessment, and plan (Lowe SOAP Notes ). Each section aides in
formulating an evaluation of the client s visit. A PT uses APA citation if they

Essay on Machiavelli and the Roman Empire
Machiavelli argued, as Hegel would later, that one must look to history and the
accounts of previous nations events in order to quot;sense...that flavor that they have
in themselves quot; in common with those from the past (Discourses 6). This seems
to follow the adage that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat
it, yet for Machiavelli he seems more concerned with actually emulating history in
order to repeat success than looking out for particular things to avoid. For this
reason, he pulls examples from an eclectic range of histories in order to demonstrate
how his principles in both The Princeand the Discourses on Livy, when followed,
will lead to a successful state. In particular, he refers to the Roman Republic... Show

Starting out as a principality, one prince after the other begins to quot;surpass the
others in sumptuousness and lasciviousness, quot; prompting the people to
overthrow him to rid themselves of his tyranny. An aristocracy, which Machiavelli
means as a rule of the Good, then takes control, but shortly thereafter they too
succumb to the temptation of exploiting their power. Again, the masses must usurp
the rule of the few and, still remembering what events had transpired in the past,
they keep the power for themselves and establish a popular state. In spite of their
good intentions, the people soon find they can t keep a firm control on the populace
( quot;a thousand injuries were done every day quot;) so they regress to a
principality. Such a sequence of events would likely go on ad infinitum if the
transitions didn t weaken the state to such a degree that its lasting one complete turn
of the cycle is less likely than becoming quot;subject to a neighboring state that is
ordered better than it quot; (Discourse 11 13). The history of France during the
eighteenth and nineteenth centuries is exemplary of how a state, fortunate to not
have been overtaken, will cycle through different types of rule due to the eventual
erosion
