Research Paper On My Lai Massacre
My Lai On March 16, 1968, in the Quang Ngai region of Vietnam, specifically My Lai, the United
States military was involved in an appalling slaughter of approximately 500 Vietnamese civilians.
There are numerous arguments as to why this incident even had the capacity to occur. Although
some of the arguments seem valid, can one really make excuses for the slaughter of innocent
people? The company that was responsible for the My Lai incident was the Charlie Company and
throughout the company there were many different accounts of what happened that reprehensible
day. Therefore there are a few contradictions about what had occurred, such as what the
commanding officers exact instructions for the soldiers were. Even with these contradictions...

Ridenhour became informed about My Lai through stories that his fellow veterans had told him.
He stated, I wanted to get those people. I wanted to reveal what they did. My God, when I first
came home, I would tell my friends and cry literally cry. (Linder) The letters he wrote, for the
most part were cast aside, but some recipients were curious. Representative Morris Udall decided
the letter was not to be ignored and what Ridenhour claimed had happened needed to be
investigated. This is where the trials and the questioning of what actually happened, who was to
blame, and what the reasons for this calamity were, began. The real query though was, even if the
above questions could be answered would there ever be a clear explanation/excuse for this
tragedy. As mentioned before the Vietnam War caused the soldiers to harbor a lot of hostility
directed at their situation as opposed to just their enemy. These were all relatively young men
fighting, 18 22, most without anything more than a high school education. They were in a strange
foreign country fighting a war that most of them did not even understand. They were fighting in an
oppressively hot climate among peasants of an alien culture. (Goff, Moss Terry, Upshur, 445) The
main problem was that Vietnam was not a conventional war, it was very difficult to tell who the
enemy was. Members of the 48th Battalion reportedly lived with the local villagers in order to
conceal their presence, often

The Process of Natural Selection Essay
Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection explains the general laws by which any given
species transforms into other varieties and species. Darwin extends the application of his theory
to the entire hierarchy of classification and states that all forms of life have descended from one
incredibly remote ancestor. The process of natural selection entails the divergence of character of
specific varieties and the subsequent classification of once related living forms as distinct entities
on one or many levels of classification. The process occurs as a speciesvaries slightly over the
course of numerous generations. Through inheritance, natural selection preserves each variation that
proves advantageous to that species in its... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gould goes on to explain that those specific and unusual examples force one to define the general
concepts in terms outside of one s predetermined and limited sensibilities.
The case of r selection provides one with an accurate comprehension of natural selection because
it emphasizes success in a metaphorical struggle for existence instead of success in a literal and
immediate struggle between two species or between a species and its environment. The main
obstacle in the struggle of cecidomyian gall midges is the fact that these flies find the mushrooms
they feed on only intermittently. In the instances in which they have no food source, the mobile
type of this fly seeks resources. Once food becomes plentiful for a short duration, the female flies
begin to reproduce asexually by parthenogenesis at stages of their life so early that they are
devoured from the inside out by their offspring. The sacrifice of structural development for the
benefit of rapid reproduction is an example of natural selection retaining a beneficial variation and
discarding a detrimental or useless one. Gould states, Evolutionists have learned that organisms
adapt not only by altering their size and shape but also by adjusting the timing of their lives and the
energy invested in different activities (feeding, growth, and reproduction, for example) (94). The
theory of natural selection can be more effectively grasped

Black Lives Matter Controversy
In recent years, there has been a variety of events that have occurred which caused people to
realize the inequality that still happens in modern day society. Between gay marriage becoming
legal in 2015 and the recent presidential election, there have been many situations that have
caused a form of division between the people of the United States. A major group that has shed
some light on the inequality that occurs in modern day society is the Black Lives Matter
(BLM) movement. The BLM website states that this they label themselves as a group of 50+
organizations that have come together with a renewed purpose to spread a common vision and
agenda. Although many people view them as a great step toward furthering equality amongst all
people, there is a select group of people who disagree. The Black Lives matter website also states
that their common vision is to continue to move towards a world in which the full humanity and
dignity of all people is recognized. While doing this, BLM also intends to include other groups of
people who experience oppression. Such as the LBGTQ community, women, Muslims, people who
were previously or currently undocumented and much more. One of the major arguments of the
Black Lives Matter movement is to end the war on black people. There have been many situations
in the last two years that have been brought to light through both social media and news
broadcasting as well. The events that are causing a wide controversy between set

Native Hawaiians And Native Americans
When Native Hawaiians welcomed Captain Cook and his crew, they began a journey that would
lead to the crumbling of Hawaiian culture. After Captain Cook, missionaries continued to travel to
Hawaii to, in their opinion, help the Hawaiian people. Native Hawaiians were viewed as savages
and were seemingly given the best assistance from the missionaries. However, the help that the
Hawaiians received led to them being demoralized and hurt psychologically and physiologically. In
order to succeed, underdogs often need the assistance of others. However, too much aid from others
can result in the help becoming the underdog s Goliath instead of their savior. The Hawaiians,
being thought of as the underdogs by the missionaries, were given an overwhelming amount of help
which led to the missionaries becoming the Hawaiian s Goliath. Before Captain Cook stumbled
upon Hawaii, the Hawaiians lived in harmony with the aina, or the land. They lived by ahupua a,
or strict land divisions that respected the natural landscape. Communities were created around
rivers and water sources. The Hawaiians had a strict law system called the kapu. They lived
with great respect to the land and believed in demi gods such as Pele, the goddess of the volcano,
or Mau i, who was believed to have pulled the islands out of the ocean in order for people to live
on the land. Peace and prosperity thrived throughout the islands because people understood that
each individual had an important role and that the land was

Nice To Eat With You Chapter 1 Summary
Ryan Klemann
AP Literature and Composition
Mrs. Mills Chapter 5 Nice to Eat with You: Acts of Communion: As Kumalo arrives in
Johannesburg, he dines with Msimangu and other priests, which include blacks and whites. The
priests at the mission sit together forgetting about color, signifying that the two races can be
together in agreement, and they welcome Kumalo s story with interest. Kumalo talks about his
village and describes how people will leave Ixopo and create a sense of brokenness in the tribe,
which are all falling to ruin. One priest wished to hear more, but got up and left to attend other
affairs, symbolizing an end of a relationship. At this meal, news of a Johannesburg couple that had
been beaten and robbed by a couple of natives was discussed. This meal of the priests is not only
an act of communion, but it represents a bond created by two different races, which is the main
issue of this novel. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like Christ, Arthur teaches to love each race and be considerate towards whites and blacks. As
Arthur Jarvis died in chapter eleven, he brought optimism and change to the people, similar to Jesus
Christ bringing redemption and spiritual growth of many people. Due to his teachings being
rejected by many people of South Africa, he was killed. As Arthur Jarvis was killed, there were
pictures of crucified Christ and Abraham Lincoln, both people who fought for what they believed
in, human compassion, and were killed for their beliefs. Through Arthur Jarvis, the reader sees
sacrifice through his actions, which relate him to Jesus Christ, the greatest sacrifice we know of.

Prayer Is The Most Essential Of Spiritual Growth
One of the most difficult questions a Christian is often asked is where they are in their spiritual
journey. Celebration of Discipline helps us understand the important aspects that help deepen our
faith. Foster writes that there are three categories of disciplines me must learn: inward, outward,
and corporate. Each category has four subcategories. I believe that prayer, service, and worship are
the most essential in spiritual growth. The first category Foster writes about is inward discipline.
Inward discipline is an act that other believes cannot measure. Inward disciplines are personal to
your relationship with God. The four types of inward disciplines are meditation, prayer, fasting,
and study. Although they are all important, I think that prayer is the most beneficial. The
discipline of prayer brings us into the deepest work of the human spirit (Page 33). Prayer is the key
to God transforming us. As we learn to pray, we learn that our will eventually molds to His will. I
have been hearing a lot of messages lately about the Lord s Prayer. When we say Thy will be done
we are not asking God to give us what we want, we are asking God to transform what we want to
become what He wants. Prayer is something that we should center our daily lives around. When
we begin to prayer God meets us where we are, no matter how far along we are in our journey. God
uses prayer to push us deeper into who He is. Sometimes prayer can be frustrating because we do
not feel like our prayers

Similarities Between Bitter Rice And Rocco And His Brothers
Both Giuseppe De Santis Bitter Rice and Luchino Visconti s Rocco and His Brothers are stories
of unhappy lots attempting to escape their squalid fates by fleeing their current circumstances for
the greener grass on the other side. Francesca and Walter, the runaway city thieves of Bitter Rice,
look for safety amidst the grueling annual rice harvest provided by the mighty river Po, while the
poor Parondi family of Rocco and His Brothers seek a new life amidst the unfamiliar urban chaos
of Milan. While the two films vary widely in structure Bitter Riceis a snappy melodrama that
traffics a great deal in sex appeal and tells the story of a single season, whereas Rocco and His
Brothers is a sweeping epic set over the course of years concerning the delicate bonds between
family their real similarity lies in their basic moral center: hard work is a righteous calling,
whereas attempting to skirt work in order to enjoy urban luxuries is a deplorable waste. Bitter
Rice is the story of roles destined for two women; one a hardworking rice farmer, the other a
passive accomplice to a morally bankrupt crook. Over the course of the film, our two main
characters Silvania and Francesca trade places, with Silvania descending into immorality with the
help of two bit thief Walter and Francesca coming to her senses alongside world weary soldier
Marco. Meanwhile, Rocco and His Brothers eponymous protagonist is an almost saintly figure,
sacrificing personal success and romantic satisfaction

Unconformity And Conformity
Fundamentally, so long as individuals are conditioned to become content with their spot in
society, they will never rebel. Furthermore, since the government does such an effective job at
making it impossible for individuals even imagine any other possible quality of life, they see
whatever inequality they face simply as a necessary price of civilization (Orwell 212). Moreover,
as made evident by the proletarian and Epsilon classes in 1984 and Brave New Worlda large class of
the people do not want to be cultured and are not interested in the higher life. For these people
existence on the lower, animal levels is perfectly satisfactory. Given food, drink, the company of
their fellows, sexual enjoyment, and plenty of noisy distractions from without, they are happy,
(Varricchio) and are therefore accepting of their unescapable social destiny (Huxley 26). What s
more, because the masses are so conditioned to accept their positions in society, they are also
inclined to feel uncomfortable with and take preventative measures against disobeying the system.
Humanity typically fears the unknown, and as such, individuals have a tendency to report to the
government they trust upon noticing someone they don t trust act apart from the status quo. People
do this out of regard for what they perceive to be their own safety and as a result, enforce
conformity for the government. This is precedented in Brave New World when Helmholtz Watson
is reported to the authorities by his own

Example Of Piracy Research Paper
Pirates are criminals who steal vessels, people and goods on the sea and coastal areas. Privateers
were privately owned ships that captured sea trade under orders from various governments.
Buccaneers were government sponsored pirate crews who attacked Spanish ships in the Caribbean
during the 17th century. Terms privateers and buccaneers are today both synonyms for piracy. The
earliest example of piracy is recorded in 14th century BC Mediterranean.
First, a pirate attack that significantly endangered any country was pirate attacks on Olympos in
3rd century BC. Earliest pirates came from first nations who used the ocean for commerce
Illyrians, Tyrrhenians, Greeks, and Romans. A pirate who served as the largest motivation for
generations of other pirates after him was Henry Every, English pirate who managed not only to
capture largest pirate loot of all time, but he managed to remain free until his death. The most usual
origin of pirates was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Occurrences of buried pirate treasure were greatly popularized by novelists, but in reality, only
two such events were ever verified, one by English captain Francis Drake, who buried cargo of
Silver, and pirate William Kidd who buried his treasure before he knew he would be arrested. He
was sentenced to death, and treasure was never found. In the history of piracy, there were not many
women. But several managed to rise to prominence, most notably Anne Bonny and Mary Read,
who served together on a pirate ship. Anne Bonny was in the relationship with pirate Captain
Calico Jack Rackham, who was caught and hanged in 1720. Mary Read died in prison from fever,
but final fate of Anne Bonny is not known.
The life of and average pirate would be less adventurace than you may imagine. Their average day
included sailing, sailing, and more sailing. They only rarely stummbled upon another vessal to
plunder and rob. That is why its not that exciting. I wrote this because I love

The Relationship Between Parent And Family
Parent s: The first step to ensuring your child s safety outside of the home is establishing a healthy
family dynamic based around mutual trust and reliance on each other, to an extent. When you and
your child have a relationship between yourselves that is healthy, you ensure that your child feels
safe in the place that matters most; in their home. When a childfeels safe in their home, among their
family, then they are more likely to feel the can communicate when there is something happening in
their lives outside the home that is bothering them or can prove harmful. Without this healthy
dynamic, your child may withhold important information from you that could end up causing a
drastic change in your child s wellbeing.
As important as open communication is between parent and child, it is equally as important to set
a solid set of rules for your child to follow. For example, younger children may not be allowed to
cross the street or leave the yard without an adult with them. Without solid rules for children to
follow, then the relationship between child and parent becomes too lax, and there is no sense of
respect of child to parent. Without a sense of mutual respect between parent and child, the child will
then feel that their parent has no knowledge of what is best for them; even though the rules their
parent may try to enforce rules that are in their best interest to follow.
As far as setting rules and punishments for your child, the ramifications should evolve as the

The Significance of the Pope
Among the institutions established throughout the span of human history intended to govern the
lives of men, perhaps none have been more lasting or have exerted more influence on the course of
history than that of the papacy. As the recognized successor to St. Peter, who was ordained by
Jesus Christ as the bishopof Rome and the leader of the universal church, the poperepresents the
spiritual authority of Christendom and stands as a symbol of union within the Catholic Church. The
continual succession, from as early as 32 AD until present day, has seen a total of 265 popes (The
List of Popes) hold the title of Vicar of Christ, and this unbroken chain of leadership stands as a
testament to the enduring significance of the papacy throughout the development of western
civilization. Long based in the Roman enclave now known as Vatican City, the papacy has been
both a transformative political power on the world stage, and a religious body transformed by the
inexorable pull of progress. With more than 77 million individuals identifying themselves as
Catholics around the world as of 2011, the pope holds authority over a church with a larger
population than France, the United Kingdom or Italy (CARA Catholic Poll). The current pope,
Benedict XVI, was elected in 2005 and has assumed the roles associated with the modern papacy,
namely the appointment of bishops and cardinals, the management of the Church s administrative
affairs, convening ecumenical councils to arbitrate

Thanks for Smoking is a very funny and informative movie. The hero of the film is Nick Naylor,

like how whether Nick Naylor was for or against what he was trying to promote he never let that

even tried to use an incident where he almost died as an advantage in his corner. Nick Naylor

The Optimization Problems Of The Constraint Optimization...
1. Introduction
In this paper, the problem we consider is the constrained optimization problem, as follows:
(P) min f (x)
s.t. gi(x) ≤ 0, i = 1, 2, . . . , m, x ∈ X,
Where X в Љ‚ Rn is a subset, and f , gi: X в†’ R, i в€€ I = {1, 2, . . . , m} are continuously
differentiable functions. Let X0= {x ∈ X|gi(x) ≤ 0, i = 1, 2, . . . , m} be the feasible solution
set. Here we assume that X0 is nonempty. The penalty function method provides an important
approach to solving (P), and it has attracted many researchers in both theoretical and practical
aspects (see e.g. [1,8,9,11,12,18,25]). In 1967, Zangwill [25] first proposed the classic l1 exact
penalty function:
F(x, П ѓ ) = f (x) + П ѓm∑i=1max{0, gi(x)}, (1)
Where П ѓ 0 is a penalty parameter, it is known from the theory of ordinary constrained optimization
that the l1 exact penalty function is a better candidate for penalization. The obvious difficulty with
the exact penalty functions is that it is not a smooth function. Which prevents the use of efficient
minimization algorithms, and causes some numerical instability problems in its implementation
when the value of the penalty parameter becomes larger. Hence, in order to use many efficient
algorithms, such as Newton Method, it is very necessary and important to smooth exact penalty
function to solve constrained optimization problems. In fact, almost all penalty function algorithms
need to change the value of the penalty parameter in computational process. So do the exact

All Behavior Caused By External Stimuli Operant Conditioning
All behavior caused by external stimuli operant conditioning). All behavior can be explained
without the need to consider internal mental states or consciousness. John B. Watson, Ivan Pavlov,
B.F. Skinner, are Classical conditioning Pavlov, Operant conditioning, Stimulus response that
assumes a learner is essentially passive, responding to environmental stimuli. The learner starts off
as a clean slate and behavior is shaped through positive reinforcement or negative reinforcement.
Both positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement increase the probability that the antecedent
behavior will happen again. In contrast, punishment both positive and negative decreases the
likelihood that the antecedent behavior will happen again. Positive... Show more content on

After the meat powder and bell were presented together several times, the bell was used alone.
Pavlov s dogs, as predicted, responded by salivating to the sound of the bell without the food.
The bell began as a neutral stimulus (i.e. the bell itself did not produce the dogs. However, by
pairing the bell with the stimulus that did produce the salivation response, the bell was able to
acquire the ability to trigger the salivation response. Pavlov therefore demonstrated how stimulus
response are formed. He dedicated much of the rest of his career further exploring this finding. In
technical terms, the meat powder is considered an unconditioned stimulus and the dog s salivation
is the unconditioned response. The bell is a neutral stimulus until the dog learns to associate the
bell with food. Then the bell becomes a conditioned stimulus which produces the conditioned
response of salivation after repeated pairings between the bell and food. John B. Watson further
extended Pavlov s work and applied it to human beings. Around 1921, Watson studied Albert, an
11 month old infant child. The goal of the study was to condition Albert to become afraid of a
white rat by pairing the white rat with a very loud noise. Behavior modification is a technique
concerning the change in the undesired behavior and enhancing desired behavior. It is an approach
that aims to modify the behavior of a

The Genre Of Romantic Comedy
The genre of romantic comedy has been successful throughout history. Men and women alike
watch these films for several reasons, even though they are predictable. Whether it s for the
comedy portrayed, or the love story itself, romantic comedies provide aspects of a story that
almost anyone can appreciate. Over time, people began to argue that contemporary romantic
comedies have depreciated, but this does not hold true. When comparing Judd Apatow s
Knocked Up (2007), which is about a stoner low life, played by Seth Rogan, who knocks up co
star, Katherine Heigl, who plays Allison, to George Cukor s Adam s Rib (1949), which tells the
story of two attorneys bickering over their shared court case, there is a radical difference between
the two films in their sheer content to portray a love story while sharing the common romantic
comedyplot, but one tells a superior love story.
The first notable difference between these films is the kind of humor utilized to articulate the
story. According to David Denby, Knocked Up s humor is vulgar and unnecessary, but the humor
in this film is not unnecessary. The Knocked Up no doubt contains extremely inappropriate and
offensive humor compared to Adam s Rib, but comedy has evolved in response to a changing
society. As written by George Gerbner in Common Culture, (certain things were not allowed on
screen). Comedy in Adam s Rib consisted of slapstick humor associated with the good ol times of
the late 40 s and 50 s. The audience witnesses

evident. AID paid for the building of eighteen warehouses, but five were not built, three were not
finished, three collapsed, two had their roofs blown off, and three more quickly crumbled owing
to serious structural deficiencies. Fifty four open wells with contaminated water were to be
sanitized, but only nine were actually improved. A hundred mills for grinding grain were to be
constructed; the project managers built and tested one mill, then gave up. The road improvement
project repaired less than one quarter of the roads scheduled for upgrading. Isn t that marvelous?

Jane Austen s Pride And Prejudice
Anjan Amarnath Mr. Holaday British Literature/Writing P6 9 May 2016 Clever Title While
Jane Austen s novel Pride and Prejudice is often regarded for it s strong representations of
feminism, the novel strongly portrays the Oedipus complex through the Bentley sisters
unexpected and contradictory relationships. The relationship of a child with their parent is one
of the strongest influences in one s later life and relations, so much so that a child is sometimes
forced to repress their true desires. The novel tracks Elizabeth Bennet s relationship with Mr.
Darcy, a relationship which endures a stark, unexpected change that is a result of Elizabeth s
Oedipal complex. Initially, Elizabeth detests Mr. Darcy, as she views him and a narcissistic man
with unreasonably high expectations; however, near the end of the novel, she becomes infatuated
with him and the two end up getting married. Mr. Bennet, Elizabeth s father, is a very soft
spoken man who deliberately defies his wife, his female counterpart, and doesn t seem to openly
express his love for his family very often. That is, with the exception of Elizabeth who happens to
be his favorite daughter, as demonstrated throughout the book through his distinct affection and
care towards her and his indifference towards his other four daughters. Due to the parallelism
between Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bennet, it is clear that Elizabeth s attraction to Mr. Darcy is deeply
rooted within the Oedipus complex. Mr. Bennett expresses a low

Developing Self-Awareness Is a Requirement for All...
Developing self awareness as a counsellor is considered central to many of the mainstream
theoretical approaches (Mcleod, 2009, p624). I will argue that without the development of self
awareness neither a trainee nor qualified counsellor can meet the core conditions set out in most
theoretical approaches to counselling, congruence, empathy and unconditional positive regard. I
will also argue that counselling trainees need to experience the role of client themselves before
they can take others on the same road to self discovery. To answer the benefits and difficulties of
the counselling trainee developing self awareness whilst practicing skills in triads I will argue the

of ourselves is the one received by others (Sanders, 2011, p61). Feedback not only raises our
awareness to what we say but, and perhaps more importantly, how we say it our non verbal
communication. The influence of non verbal communication on a clients view of their
counsellor can be taught, but I was amazed at just how unaware I was of my own body language.
During my first few triads I could not control my hands, eventually opting to sit on them which
was perceived as uncomfortable and a result of my nervousness. Receiving feedback gives us a
chance to change and modify in order to communicate more effectively (Tolan Lendrum, 1995,
p30) and creates awareness of the importance of effective communication when building a
genuine relationship with your client. Receiving feedback can also raise our awareness of the
value of receiving genuine feedback itself, as well as a need to sensitively communicate feedback
to others. This also creates a greater sense of empathy toward others. Triads also enable the trainee
to receive feedback from a variety of different people, not just their tutor. The diversity found
within a training group will be reflected back to the trainee within feedback received. My group has
much diversity with regards to sexuality,

Ostinato Scene Analysis
Shiyao Anna Luo
MUS Z315 Music for Film
Psycho Viewing Assignment
Part I:
Musical texture built from ostinati (short, repeated patterns)
There are several points that ostinato has been used in the film, and starting from (00:10:56),
which is the scene when Marion is packing her luggage. There are strings playing the upper
linear line in high register, and there are also strings playing in the middle register and low
register in order to create those different layers of voicing. The scene followed this one, which
starts around (00:13:02) also use ostinato at the beginning part of this scene. This scene is about
when Marion drives her car on the street, she meets her boss. This time, the dynamics keeps

As I have discussed a little bit earlier that the instrumentation for this music scores, unlike
traditional orchestra music, it mostly uses strings. Even though there are no brasses and
percussions (usually play the lower register and bass melody) in the film, I think Bernard
Herrmann used the strings in a way that they are the whole orchestra. He used the double basses
and cellos to play out the bottom line of melody and the violins and violas to play the upper
melody. He is using the string ensemble but creates the sounding effect of a whole orchestra. As
we discussed during class last week that most composers back into that time prefer to use more
neo romantic style music; however, this music score definitely has nothing relate to romantic style.
It is dissonant as I said before, and creates lots of tensions but it does not resolve, and I feel like
that is one big thing that makes it different from classical music, and obviously, it applies many
uses of atonality. Even at the beginning scene (00:06:02) that when Marion spends her lunchtime
with Sam, the music at there is not like typical love theme music. People usually relate strings with
love theme; however, I feel like the strings playing at this scene do not tightly apply to the romance
element in the film. Comparing to the music that happens later, this one is not that dissonant, it is
still unresolved at the

of personal and external factors. 2.1 And 2.2 Personal Factors * During pregnancy : If the

premature birth and health problems for the baby such as : low birth weight, undeveloped organs,
problems with sight and hearing. These are all problems that could delay their development. Some

Operate Conditioning : People learn and are influenced by the results of what they do. It s also
when people s behaviour is affected by consequences, reinforcements and learning based on
exploration of the environment. Skinner divided the consequences of actions into these three
groups... 1. Positive reinforcement using positive reinforcement such as stickers, attention and
praise. 2. Negative reinforcements this also makes children repeat behaviour but in different
ways e.g.: If a child does well in an exam therefore they don t have to do their chores. 3. Punishers
designed to prevent you from repeating behaviour e.g.: if a child burns themselves on a hot oven
they wouldn t touch it again. Skinner found that unpredictable reinforcements work better than
continual. Influence on practice We use positive reinforcements in practice today. Giving children
lots of praise to help them learn positive behaviour we also give out stickers to encourage
repeated good behaviour. Pavlov and Watson are both associated with classical conditioning which
is when you are taught to act a certain way by association and instruction. We do not use this in
practice today but it helps us to understand phobias such as a child being scared of spiders because
mummy is and always screams when she sees one. Cognitive development constructivist theory

Create A Resume
The first thing you should consider when looking for a job is your resume. A resume is a
blueprint that details what you have accomplished with regards to education, experience, skills
acquisition, workplace successes, and progressive responsibility and/or leadership (Patricia and
Sherfield 161). Many people struggle with landing a job because of their resume. In my essay, I
will be providing an outline to how to create a resume. I have collected information from online,
personal references, and the class s textbook; AOT 133 Professional Development. To show a
difference from a well put together resume verse a poorly written resume, I created two resumes;
one prior to learninghow to create a resume and one after learning. When you prepare your resume,
keep your future employer in mind. Include your full name and make sure your contact
information is up to date and accurate so any future employer can contact you if necessary. You

example of a weak objective is, I want to work as a marketing manager with a major corporation .
A strong objective would be Seeking a marketing position that will utilize my organization talents,
oral communication skills, and expertise with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Prezi, and Facebook in a

The Country Of Ghan Ghana
History Thousand of years ago, between the 9th and 11th centuries, Ghana took pride on being
one of the richest areas in Africa. Geographically, they were literally sitting on a gold mine. The
dogs wore gold collars, horses had silk bridles, and Ghana s kings were easily some of the richest
in the world. This medieval Ghana was located about 500 miles north of present day Ghana, and
was referred to as the Gold Coast for obvious reasons. Far more advanced than any country in its
time, Ghana was a trading hotspot with a powerful king and economy. However, this time of
prosperity would not last forever. In the 13th century, Ghana faced gold trading competition and
attacks from other territories out of jealously. Eventually, they were defeated and taken over by the
Kingdom of Mali, the next great empire which was even wealthier than Ghana. Although that
kingdom was eventually weakened, it marked one of the last periods before European
intervention. In 1471, the Portuguese arrive as the first Europeans with the intention to trade; they
traded firearms and slaves from other territories in return for gold dust. By now, the Akan people
are the largest tribe in the area. Slaves increased economic productivity, and the weapons allowed
the Akan states to expand. In 1642, the Dutch replaced the Portuguese, and 30 years later, Great
Britain and Denmark established their own trading posts. These European powers wanted slaves,
and soon they replaced gold as the main export. Conflicts

Mental Illness And Gun Violence In America
Mental Illness and Gun Violence in America
On the night of October 1, 2017, Jason Aldean took to the stage as the final act of what would
have been an epic conclusion to the Route 91 Harvest music festival. With 22,000 attendees, the
festival consisted of three days of laughter, alcohol, and everyone s favorite country music. The
audience was packed tightly around the stage, dancing and singing as Aldean strummed his
guitar. It was then that 64 year old Stephen Paddock opened fire on the crowd from the 32nd
floor of his Mandalay Bay hotel room. At the end of his rampage, 58 people were left dead and
489 injured in what is being called the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history. This act
of senseless violence has left law enforcement and victims scouring for answers as to why such a
devastating act was perpetrated. Since Paddock was found dead in his hotel room from a self
inflicted gunshot wound, authorities have unveiled a life of gambling, fantasies of violence, and a
neglected childhood, all stoking the question: Was mental illness to blame? Though this conclusion
is one that US policymakers, journalists, and the general public tend to align themselves with,
psychiatric research and gun violence statistics state otherwise.
Politics And Assumptions In the aftermath of mass shootings, the United States democratic and
political discourse oftentimes concentrates on the impact of mental illness. For instance, the media
did not hesitate to diagnose Dylann Roof,

The Pentateuch s Book Of Genesis
The book of Genesis (which means in the beginning in its original Hebrew language) weaves an
intricate tapestry of Who YHWH is through the creation of the world and mankind, the Fall of
mankind through Adam and Eve, and YHWH s plans to reconcile the broken relationship between
His creation and Himself. A parallel is constructed in Genesis by [opening] with the beginning days
(Genesis 1:1 2:4a) and [closing] with the last days (Genesis 49:1), creating the framework for the
entire story of humankind. This parallelism is profound, not only in modern contexts, but because it
was so unusual for an ancient Near Eastern text to have eschatology theories. While ancient Near
Eastern deities might create the world, none of them had plans to... Show more content on

From there, Genesis is typically read and interpreted in three different ways: generically,
theologically, and literarily. First, in a general reading of the book, Genesis may be split into
two parts where chapters 1 11 tells the story of mankind in a universal scale that leads to a
narrower view in the personal stories of the patriarchs in chapters 12 50. Then in reading the text
theologically, readers should recognize the need for a covenant people (chapters 1 11) and the
subsequent formation of the covenant (chapters 12 50). This was presented through the
establishment of YHWH s covenant people (chapters 12 37) and their preservation in Egypt
before entering the Promised Land (chapters 37 50). Finally, in a literary context, a ten fold
Toledoth (translated as generations in Hebrew) is shown in two spans: Span 1 illustrates the five
generations from Adam to Abraham (chapters 2:4 11:26), while Span 2 unveils the five
generations from Abraham to Israel (chapters 11:27 50:26). These three interpretative measures are
interesting to note because no matter what angle a reader may approach Genesis, it all leads to the
coming Messiah. This is further emphasized in the genealogy of Jesus Christ in Matthew 1, in which
the line of Christ is traced back to Abraham, displaying the

Essay On Presidential Power
The arguments made by Federalists and anti Federalists regarding the office and powers of the
presidency during the ratifying debates that followed the drafting of the Constitution in 1787
were persuasive, but distinctly at odds. Both sides, however, sought the same thing, how best to
allocate power in a unified republic of states? From this question opposing views developed as to
whether or not a President should even exist, and if so, what powers he should be granted. I will
briefly examine the presidential powers that were primarily awarded under Article II of the new
Constitution. I will then explore the opposing arguments that arose during the ratifying debates
concerning those granted powers. I do so in the interest of offering a... Show more content on

The economic progress of the Philippines at the beginning of American occupation was in a debacle
situation especially in agriculture. However, the administration exerted all efforts to revive and
improve agriculture. Thus, the bureau of agriculture was created in order to promote agriculture
such as gradual experimentation and modernization of farms, plants and animal wastes.
CARABAOS were imported to restock the depleted animal resources. Friar lands were purchased
by the Philippine government and sold to tenants on easy mode of payment. Modern types of farm
machinery were introduced from the United States of America. Irrigations were constructed that
improved the country s rice production.
The greatest factor that fostered the development of the Philippine economy was due to free trade
relations with the United States. Philippine based products such as hemp, sugar, tobacco, copra,
embroideries and among others were exported. These products were accepted in the American ports
within the quota limit, any amount in excess of these limits was subject to the full rate of the tariff
while all United States goods were admitted free.

The Best Selling Garment Of All Time
Marked the best selling garment of all time , denim has been a key participant in the evolution of
popular culture (Weber 2006). Originally making its public debut appearance within the mining
sectors in the mid 1800s, denim has become a product of globalization, as it gained both attention
and wear by billions (Foreman 2015). As various styles have evolved from denim, jeans have
deemed consistency throughout popular culture movements, withstanding the test of time. Not only
has denim broken barriers of age, class, and race, but the way in which jeans have been altered is a
direct product of popular culture, carried out via youth subcultures.
Why study something as acquisitive as denim when examining theories of popular culture,
particularly when trends come and go? British media theorist and sociologist Dick Hebdige is
distinguished for his popular culture studies, as he is labeled as the primary popular culture
reference maker. His research via sociological analysis has paved the way for proceeding theorists
to further explore the complexity of popular culture movements. Denim, however, is unique in the
sense that the evolution of this single garment has disrupted orthodox societal structures not only in
its country of origin, but also globally. Its invention and circulation epitomize the exchange and
intersection of cultural studies, allure a wide audience, and exemplify both political and economic
societal shifts.

communicate for example; English is an additional language. If you had a child in the nursery who
had English as a second language, and knew few words, verbally communicating with this child
wouldn t be the first thing you would do. There are loads of different ways to do this for example;
using picture cars with words, not only will this technique help communicate but also help build the

and sticking, show the child what to do by demonstrating the activity for them to then copy your
actions. Communication is very important, not only with the child/ young person but also their

their child/children and information that they need to know about the nursery itself. The stronger

The novel Montana 1948 is a book that covers various issues and discussion points throughout the

that he stood against two members of his family to do the right thing, he stood behind his point
when he had made up his mind, and he endured through this situation, and never buckled in.
One major reason why Wesley is a hero instead of a coward is that he is able to stand up against

Terrorism And Its Effects On The World War II
These events seemed tragic at the time, but they were the chain of circumstances that turned World
War Two around and led to the defeat of the Axis Powers. Although the Soviet Union was on the
brink of defeat, the overextended Germans could not sustain the level of fighting and were driven
west. At the same time, the U.S. determined the only way to victory was via a swift, harsh military
response. This came in the form of the attack on Normandy, bombings of German infrastructure,
operations in North Africa and Italy, island hopping, and ultimately, nuclear warfare. It was a
combined effort that brought World War Two to an end. These operations demonstrate the way to
end tyranny is with a thought out plan of attack, teamwork, and prompt, committed action.
Modernly, this sort of depravity is taking the form of what is called terrorism. Terrorism has been
defined as actual or threatened use of violence, directed by groups or individuals against
noncombatants, to achieve political ends through intimidation ( Terrorism par. 1). Though terrorism
was occurring before September 11th, 2001, that is when it became real for Americans. The attacks
on 9/11 by a terrorist organization known as Al Qaeda included attempts to cripple the U.S.
economically, politically, and militarily. They did this by flying commercial airlines into the World

He realizes that to stand up to Britten s questioning is he able to not be killed for his actions so
he expends most of his mental energy to craft his story, it is a life or death matter for him after all.
5.Why does Bigger threaten Jan with a gun?
Bigger is naturally afraid that Jan might speak a different story than what he told P.I. Britten, so
in an attempt to silence and bully him into submission to stop asking questions. This however
backfires as Jan is not the kind of man who would easily give up on what he set his eyes on, in
this case it was his innocence. Jan is also a man that doesn t like things too complicated, so when
Bigger introduces him to his little murder story, Jan defends his own self well enough that the story
is unearthed quickly.
6.What is Bigger s plan to get money from Mr. Dalton?
Bigger plans to disguise Mary s disappearance as a communist kidnapping. Following his
interrogations from Britten and how he pointed fingers at the communist party, Bigger decides to
forge a note that suggests that the Communists party kidnapped Mary Dalton. His plan backfires
after the Dalton s actually release Jan, believing that he would give them back their daughter in a
trade style, Jan for Mary. As Mary is dead, and Jan has no idea what is happening, Bigger starts to

Analysis Of V For Vendetta By James Mcteigue
It s a title with a strong letter used as somewhat like a alliteration to exaggerate the ideas within
this film, V for Vendetta , directed by James McTeigue, this defines what the true meaning of
injustice which seems to be over exaggerated through action, sci fi and thriller scenes. V for
Vendetta is a type of film where in a future, where there was a British tyranny or corruption in the
government, a shadowy freedom fighter plots to overthrow it with the help of a young woman.
This film shows the message of the best advice is to stop fighting it and embrace the fact that you
have been given an opportunity if you chose to view it with a different set of eyes. And yet there
will be many who miss this opportunity as they feel a false sense of security operating in the belief
systems that harbor fear, anger and hate rather than letting go to face the very emotions that enslave
them. This film uses fancy quotes or catch phrases, with a strong act of violence in acting around
the main character(s), especially the protagonist V and to the eventuality, Evey at the end of the
story. Special effects and the fanatical costume visuals (with the famous Guy Fawkes mask) all is
used intently to make the audience with a tint of exhilarance, to make them think, what does this
mean? What is the idea that V is trying to show in injustice? Through elements found in the film I
ve found that,...... Point 1: Atmosphere Firstly, it has the aim to illustrate the dystopia of a world

Global Warming And Climate Change Myths
If you want to go beyond that small percentage of people who are already environmentally and
scientifically aware, you have to make your work somehow link with a passion, interest, or
profession of someone who isn t interested in science or nature (Nalini Nadkarni, n.d.). Like most
who are not fully educated on a subject until they research it or take a course on it, I was not aware
of the overall importance or impact that environmental sciencehad on my everyday life and the
world around me. One of the major things that have been brought to my attention in this course is
environmental issues, and what I can do to help improve them. One of the convincing arguments
that have not only shaped my attitude, but cleared a lot of things up for me was reading and
learning about Global Warmingand climate change myths. One of the myths on the list that stood
out to me was, They changed the name from Global Warming to Climate Change (Global Warming
Climate Change Myths, 2016). According to the scientists, both terms actually mean two different
things, and have both been used for decades, proving that myth to be false. Another big myth that
seems to occupy the minds of a very large part of the world s population is, It s not an urgent
situation. To this, scientists have responded (and I fully agree) with, A large amount of warming is
delayed, and if we don t act now we could pass tipping points (Global Warming Climate Change

Love Medicine Character Analysis
Erdrich s novel, suitably titled Love Medicine encapsules numerous and colourful characters. An
interrelated story centered on two Chippewa families, the Kashpaws and the Lamartines, and the
way these families are interwoven. Lulu Lamartine, one of the interesting characters, described as
hyper sensual but determined, is brought to life by what others say about her, how the speaker
describes her and what her actions convey about her. Readers are overwhelmed with amazement as
they discover Lulu through these portrayals and are spell bound with rapt attention throughout the
events in the novel. Readers come to understand hyper sensual but determined Lulu Lamartine by

He is of the same opinion that his mother is a hyper sensual but determined person. He is aware
of his mother s escapades from childhood by what he hears in the community. Even as a grown

becomes evident when they have a disagreement in the factory where she works for him. He
describes her here as, Lulu Lamartine was usually controlled as a cat and got her way through

because of her strong sexual desire, she shows care and compassion to people, especially family.

Essay on My Future Career
My Future Career Everest University Online My Future Career I have chosen a career as a
paralegal. This is a field that I expect will be both challenging as well as professionally
rewarding. As a paralegal, I will assist attorneys in the delivery of legal services (National
Association of Legal Assistants, 2008). A career in paralegal studies is a prestigious, professional
adventure and offers a wonderful opportunity while enhancing ones knowledge of the law and
provides for challenges, growth and advancement. After conducting research on this career, I found

kinds of work that paralegals can do (National Federation of Paralegal Associations, 2012). It
takes a lot of hard work and really knowing your legalese to be a great paralegal, and I am going
to study very hard to get there. According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of
paralegals and legal assistants is projected to grow 22 percent between 2006 and 2016, much
faster than the average for all occupations (National Association of Legal Assistants, 2008). Private
law firms continue to be the single largest employer of paralegals, good job opportunities also exist
in several other markets in both the private and public sectors. In addition to private law firms,
other organizations in the private sector employ paralegals (American Bar Association, 2011).
Some examples include corporate legal departments, insurance companies, estate and trust
departments of large banks, hospitals and health care organizations, real estate and title insurance
companies, and professional trade associations. Earnings vary considerably depending upon such
factors as size of the community, geographical location, and size of the firm, nature of the legal

Human Development Index to Measure Living Standards Within...
INTRODUCTION
Through the ages, economists worldwide have developed different measurements, statistics and
standards in order to have an anchor number on how to rate whether they be the development, their
perceived inequality among other variables within a country. Because of this, and on the endeavour
to unify the measurement of the current situation of a country, the United Nations via the United
Nations Development Program in 1990 developed and first published their Annual Human
Development Report featuring for the very first time in history the Human Development Index
(Stanton, 2007).
According to the United Nations (UN), Human Development is the process by which society can
improve the living conditions of its citizens through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Naturally the UN has addressed these claims and has improved the index within the years, but there
is always space for improvement.
The HDI had withstood several critics regarding the poor quality of the data used in the
calculations, regarding the selection of indicators and even on the calculations and the formulation
itself; nevertheless, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) rebutted some of those
claims and used others to improve the HDI calculations. (Stanton, 2007). The HDI, with or without
flaws, has up to some extent shaped the way we assess and compare countries. Thanks to the HDI,
the development is implied when talking about wellbeing instead of only looking at raw numerical
information. Hopefully in the future, the Index shall be improved even more, to finally have a
definitive Index on development worldwide.
In the year 2000, the UN established eight international development goals regarding: poverty,
education, gender equality, child mortality, maternal health, HIV and other diseases, environmental
sustainability and global partnership. (Nations, n.d.). For this paper, the HIV pandemic shall be
analysed. The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is the virus that serves as root for the
acquired immunodeficiency syndrome or AIDS which is a disease that compromises the human
immune system supressing it and leaving the body open for other diseases and

Culminating Performance Analysis
This past December, I have completed the last part of my Culminating Performance Task for the
grade 11 English course. This particular essay is rather long and there are many difficulties I have
to face while writing it. Although it may not be perfect, however, I am quite satisfied with the
outcome. Throughout the process, based on the compliments and criticisms by my peers, I have
learned many new methods that can help me to accomplish an excellent mark for my essays in the
future. They kindly provided ideas for improvements such as grammar check and consistency in
writing, and the one which I believe to be the most constructive is how to be efficient in my
analysis and be logical in order to form an arguable thesis and argument. This is due to the... Show

Therefore, in the upcoming year, I wish to improve my grammar skills by reading more books and
other essays from my peers, if they allow me to, so that I can learn how to properly apply the use
to grammar and punctuation in a paragraph. Lastly, the third mistake I want to reflect on is my
choices of words. As a grade 11 students, I am aware that I am required to effective words for my
level in writing and I try to use as many powerful words as possible in order to fully explain my
arguments. However, when I write an essay, I think of many words to use but they may not
necessarily be the perfect choice for the sentence, because sometimes simpler words can be enough
for the explanation. If I use difficult vocabularies, but the meaning of it is not suitable for the
sentence, then this would just worsen the writing. Now that I understand how to correctly use the
right vocabularies, I hope in the future the same mistake will not occur. To conclude, I have
reflected upon three points in this reflection, and that is to by logical in my analysis section, my
grammar skills, and the choice of

Pathological Fear Of African Americans
According to PhycologyToday.com fear is an emotional response induced by a perceived threat,
which causes a change in brain and organ function, as well as in behavior. Fear can lead us to
become narcissistic, to run away from various issues, or to freeze up and become victim under
circumstance, or it may come in the form of a discovery.
When I was younger my fear came in form of darkness, not knowing what was in the space. Over
the course of time that form of fear of course changed. You will always be afraid of something, it
doesn t necessarily have to be physical. Sometimes fear comes in masses specifically referring to
White America being afraid of the educated, prospering Black American.
Since slavery, the lore of the predacious Black individual has been used to fear Whites and to
justify their brutality and violence done against Black individuals, communities and continents. The
enslavement of Africans resulted in a plethora of uprisings, from the Haitian Rebellion to Nat
Turner s rebellion. Since then, whites have developed a pathological fear that oppressed Blacks
will one day rise up and inflict vengeance upon their oppressors .
In 1826, John B. Russwurm became the first Black college graduate. Today just about 4.6 million
African Americans hold a four year college degree according to The Journal of Black in Higher
Education . This number is ridiculously large considering that at the time of the Harlem

his story. He explained that he was forced by the military to change his entire story and that it was

Women And Ideal Characteristics Of Femininity
According to The Broadview Anthology of British Literature, There was much debate concerning
the proper place of women and the ideal characteristics of femininity throughout the nineteenth
century. The Victorian Era officially followed the reign of Queen Victoria in England from 1837
to 1901, but the era is not so rigidly set. The ideologies, values, and mores associated with the
Victorian era were present before Queen Victoria, and then followed into America and also lived
sixty years past its recorded date of death. In the 1950s and 60s, the idea of femininity was still
being explored, just as it was a century prior in another country. Betty Friedans The Feminine

The society in which Friedan describes and the thoughts of Allen parallel each other: to be
feminine is to mother children and to marry a man. Deviating from this neatly structured plan
for a woman s obligation is to become unfeminine. Esther Greenwood is a woman of the 1950s
who goes against the belief that women should marry; in fact, she declares, I m never going to
get married (Plath 93) while being proposed to by Buddy Willard. In the Victorian Era, it was
largely men who grappled with the questioning and answering of the desires and needs of
women, and in the 1960s, the patriarchal society determined the woman s role. In her novel,
Plath specifically points out the flaw in the system: men are not women, so they cannot
accurately govern their needs or wants. After Esther s rejection of Buddy, he claims, You re
crazy. You ll change your mind (93). In another scene, Esther recalls, I also remember Buddy
Willard saying in a sinister, knowing way that after I had children I wouldn t want to write
anymore (85). Buddy s predictions about Esther s future align with the correct attitudes for women
of the time. Moreover, his decidedly knowing her needs and wants is indicative of his inner
feeling of superiority over her: because he is of the dominant sex, his telling Esther how to feel is
justified. In setting up men to be the dominant sex, men become the

Genetic Engineering Pros And Cons
Genetic Engineering Imagine a world where autism and downs syndrome are a thing of the past,
and where there is no shortage on food for anybody. Over the years mankind has developed and
improved technology to save more and more lives through the manipulation of the DNA that makes
up all living organisms. However, there are those who oppose this approach. Despite the risks and
ethical concerns, genetic engineeringholds the potential to benefit humanity through both direct
and indirect means. In the past genetic engineering has been used on crops and humans alike
with great success. A few years ago there was a study that concluded that the biotech varieties
increased the state s food and fiber production by more than 10 million pounds, improved farm
income by nearly $33 million, and reduced pesticide used by 776,000 pounds annually
(Hammerstrom 124). It is also worth noting that most soybeans planted have been genetically
engineered to resist the herbicide glyphosate (Roleff 11). These modifications allow the
soybeans to grow without danger of suffering destruction along with weeds. The benefits that
arose from previous use of genetic engineering expand beyond plant life as well. Human lives
have directly benefited through direct manipulation of the human genome as well. An example of
said benefits includes a case where gene therapy has been used to treat people with Parkinson s
disease (Roleff 43), as a result people s lives are dramatically improved as they no
