Introduction: As defined by Newman and Summer, “Communication is an exchange of facts, ideas, opinions or emotions by two or more persons.”   For one to achieve effective communication his or her message intensions must be received by the receiver and a response is returned. To achieve this principles and standard known as communication ethics must be followed to deliver clear and precise message to the receiver.

Communication ethics are the principles that guide organizations and individuals in sharing message which include honesty, transparency, and fairness among others which help us convey message to different audiences.   These ethics can be expressed in oral, written and nonverbal communication in different ways depending on the context

ORAL COMMUNICATION This is a form where by the information is exchanged by s peech for examples both fac e to face speech, presentation, group, discussion and through mechanical means like mobile phone. Ethics of oral communication . · Courtesy; One should be respectful to the listeners by using polite language, being sincere and enthusiastic. The choice of words , tone, and body language should reflect respect for the to other person. · Honesty and integrity; Ethical oral communication requires speaking the truth and being open about intentions and feelings for clearer communication. Misleading someone intentionally undermines trust.

· Inclusivity; Ethical oral communication encourages and promotes participation in an inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing their thoughts and ideas. · Cultural sensitivity; Awareness of differences and understanding cultural norms related to communication is essential to avoid misunderstandings or offenses. · Confidentiality; protecting privacy in many contexts especially sensitive ones like counselling or business. Private information shared during conversation should be kept secret. This can be broken as witnessed through gossip.

WRITTEN COMMUNICATION This is where by the information is exchanged/conveyed by means of writing/written words for example through letters, emails Social media posts, reports etc. Ethics of written communication Accuracy; The information being presented must be free of errors. The accuracy in writing can be achieved by careful checking and editing information before presentation.   Harmony; This is the smooth flow of one’s message. This is how best one can make his work flow systematically from one word to another, sentence to sentence and paragraph.   Unity ; This is how different parts of the message are connected to the main theme . Each sentence should contribute to the main point of one’s communication.  Briefness; Writing should be shorter by using few words for many. This saves time and also makes the reader not bored.

Accountability ; Writers should be able to standby their information such as correcting the errors when they arise before their presentation of information and should be able to defend their information they put down. Clarification of the work ; The written information should ensure that the intended message is conveyed appropriately and in the easiest way. The writing should also clarify ones point of argument and minimize the misunderstanding. Respect conveyed in the written work; One should take his time and display information acknowledging his formality to the reader.

NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION It’s understood as the process of communication through sending and receiving wordless message portrayed as gestures, for example through sending and receiving wordless messages portrayed body language / posture, facial expression and eye contact and even silence. Ethics of nonverbal communication Respect and Consideration Be mindful of your body language ensuring it Conveys respect and consideration for others. Avoid gestures that could be perceived as offensive or disrespectful

Honesty and integrity Ensure that your nonverbal cue align with your verbal message avoid sending mixed signals that could lead to confusion or mistrust. Cultural Sensitivity Non-verbal communication varies significantly across cultures. What is acceptable or positive in one culture may be offensive in another. Ethically, one should strive for cultural awareness to avoid unintentional disrespect or harm.

Transparency and openness There should be clarity and transparency when passing nonverbal communication through the use of color, picture and charts.

Empathy and Understanding Show empathy and Compassion through your body as you maintaining eye contact and nodding in agreement with audience.

Accessibility Not everyone interprets non-verbal cues in the same way, particularly individuals with certain disabilities. Ethically, communication should be inclusive, considering the needs of all participants through the use of charts, graphs, pictures for deaf and use of Brielle printing for the visually impaired.   Conclusion Following our research, we believe that for us to achieve effective communication across all platforms and audiences, one has to follow the above principles and ethics.
