Ethno-medicinal and Foods Folklore of Jaunsari Tribe and its impact on Tourism Promotion Avnish K. Upadhyay Research Scholar Department of Oriental Studies Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar (Uttarakhand)
Objective of the study The present work aims to enlist the ethno-medicinal and nutritional folk-lore and explorations of possibilities of Tourism Promotion in Jaunsar-Bhawar region of district Dehradun, Uttarakhand. This paper is an outcome of extensive study among the Jaunsari tribes and is an attempt to document various plant folklore and their therapeutic and nutritional claims.
introduction Ethno-medicine: Traditional therapeutic practices of various ethnic groups particularly involving natural substances like herbs etc. Foods Folklore: Customary recipes of various ethnic groups having religious, therapeutic, spiritual and cultural importance. Jaunsari tribes of Dehradun are renowned for their vivid garments, celebrations, ethno-medicine and foods folklores. These cultural attractions can possibly be advanced for the visitors who are dependably in the chase of investigating new culture and in this way helping Jaunsar-Bhawar to rise as an essential folk tourist destination.
Materials & methods Jaunsar-Bhawar region is under the Shivalik and Himalayan mountainous chain. Ethno-medicinal plants and data of their folk claims were recorded involving interviews, semi-structured meetings, group discussions and reviews of various research literatures published. The data presented in the present paper delineated with botanical name, family, local name, uses etc. The research work towards enumeration of plants and folklores is based on earlier published data along with documentations and communications under present studies.

Observation & results The folk-medicine and wellness foods particularly as ethnomedicinal plants used by Jaunsari tribe in Jaunsar-Bhawar region have great medicinal plant-lore. The scientific name of the plants along with their vernacular names and folk claims by the tribal people in the study area, is presented. The Jaunsari people use a total of 169 plant species [Table 1] belonging to 72 families for curing different ailments and utilizes as wellness foods folklores.

In the Jaunsar-Bhawar forests the diversified plants enhances its importance and other than providing fuel, feed, bamboos and therapeutic herbs, they likewise yield nectar, lac , gum, catechu, wax and foods. Observation & results contd ….. Food Folklore: Various food folklores were observed among Jaunsari tribe like; Arabi leaves moves arranged to steam-prepare as a healthy green vegetable, Muda bukaono - produced using wheat grains by delicate simmering on tawa and valuable as healthy snacks starter, Chuloda - a cake produced using mash of Chuloo Fruit of apricot family. This makes an exceptionally classy Chutney including suitable masala , Doroti made of Masur dal , a decision delectable Sweet or Sour flavor, Khendadi cooked in high temp water and presented with ghee making a little well at the inside, Pinunwe - another steam prepared dish taken with ghee, Uluwe - a steam prepared dish eaten with Ghee,
conclusion There are insufficient research data on evaluation and validation of folk medicinal wisdom and wellness foods folklore of various tribe groups including Jaunsaris. Jaunsar-Bhawar area is as yet not perceived and preferred as one of the vital Cultural tourist destination. Cultural Tourism today is on the blast as more tourists are occupied with understanding the way of life of various regions and teaching them. Thus by legitimate planning , usage and by the shared co-task Jaunsar-Bhawar can develop as one of important Cultural tourist destinations in future and can have the accompanying future favorable circumstances and will be helpful in economic steadiness to neighborhood individuals.
