What is an output device ? An output device is any device used to send data from a computer to another device or user. Most computer data output that is meant for humans is in the form of audio or video or text. Some of the most common output devices that people are familiar with include monitors, which produce video output; speakers, which produce audio output ; and printers, which produce text or graphical output.
what are Output devices ?
Evolution of the Monitor The first monitors use CRT technology (cathode ray rube) and firstly made in 1922. The earlier commercial version was produced in 1954. This technology used for 50 years until 2000 when the LCD technology replace it. Nowadays most of the displays use this technology, and almost replaced the CRT displays (almost in every area). And the newest type of display is OLED. (which maybe familiar from Mobil phone especially Samsung phones with AMOLED).
Evolution of the printer The first mechanical printer was invented by Charles Babbage , for use with the Difference Engine , which Babbage developed in 1822. Babbage's printer utilized metal rods with printed characters on each rod to print text on rolls of paper that were fed through the device . In 1953, the first high-speed printer was developed by Remington-Rand for use on the computer . 1910 – Screen Printing 1925 – Dot Matrix Printing 1951 – Inkjet Printing 1969 – Laser Printing 1972 – Thermal Printing 1981 – 3D Printing
Evolution of the plotter When was the first plotter invented? The first plotter was invented in 1953 by Remington-Rand. It was used in conjunction with the computer to created technical drawings . Advantages of plotters Plotters can work on very large sheets of paper while maintaining high resolution. Plotters allow the same pattern to be drawn thousands of times without any image degradation. Disadvantages of plotters Plotters are quite large when compared to a traditional printer. Plotters are also much more expensive than a traditional printer.
Evolution of the projectors The first movie projector was the Zoopraxiscope, invented by British photographer Eadweard bridge in 1879. The zoopraxiscope projected images from rotating glass disks in rapid succession to give the impression of motion. The stop-motion images were initially painted onto the glass.
Evolution of the speaker When computers were initially released, they had on-board speakers built into the chassis that generated a series of different tones and beeps. The first internal computer speaker was invented by IBM in 1981 and produced basic, low quality sound.
Evolution of the headset A brief history of the headset . ... The first headset was created in 1910 by Nathaniel Baldwin, a student at Stanford University, who after repeatedly attempting to find a backer to finance his new invention, sold around 100 models to the US Army.
