LUMP Definition: A lump is an abnormal swelling or mass that can occur anywhere in the body. TYPES Benign: lipomas , cysts, fibromas. Malignant: sarcomas lymphomas, metastatic lesions. Inflammatory: abscesses, swollen lypmph nodes.
HISTORY TAKING OF LUMPS Where is it? When did you first notice it? How did you notice it? Dose it produce any symptoms? Any changes size/color since it was first notice
Dose it come and disappear? Do you have another lump? what do you think the cause is? NOTE Don’t ask the patient what is the color of the lump! You have to see it yourself in PEx while inspection, you can ask only about any changes in the color since it was first noticed.
CLINICAL EXAMINATION OF LUMPS Start the examination with WIPE Wash your hands. Introduce yourself to the patient. Positioning of the patient and his/her privacy. Exposure.

PALPATION Tenderness Temperature Size Consistency Compressibility
Auscultation (aneurysm) Percussion ( a case of hernia) End the examination with General examination: Keep it to the end, and if ask what else is needed.
