Reshaping the Story for Commerce Students

Slide Content

Example:
 Original story:

A fox was roaming around the countryside.
He saw a fine vineyard. On seeing the lush
grapes his mouth watered. First he lifted
his head and stretched out. He could not
reach the grapes. He felt the grapes to be
higher. Then he stood on his hind legs and
stretched. Again he could not reach them.
Finally, he jumped up and up again. Even
then, he could not reach the grapes. The
fox was too tired to try again. So he left

the place murmuring, “The grapes are
sour. Who would eat sour grapes?”

 Reshaped story:
Once upon a time, there lived a fox named
Kallu, always cunning and hungry.
Wherever he went he thought of his food
first. He would not hesitate to steal from
farms or kill small little animals for his
pleasure.

Once, Kallu was passing by a grape-farm.
Suddenly his eyes caught sight of
mouthwatering ripe sweet grapes. He ran
his eyes here and there. Nobody was in
sight. The chowkidar was asleep. His
mouth had started watering already. The
grape-vines were hanging little higher over
his head. He jumped in a joy to take a grab
at hanging delicacy. He fell little short of
his effort. Again he took a great leap but
not enough to reach the grapes. Now he
tried again with little anger. In vain! He
kept on trying. After some time he was
tired and disappointed. He murmured in
utter anguish.

”Ah! Who cares for these sour grapes?”

After a few futile attempts, when Kallu the
fox could not reach the mouth watering
grapes, he suddenly thought of seeking
help of his friend, Bholu the donkey. He
invited Bholu to see the ripe grapes. Bholu
was tempted too, to the hanging delicacy.
He also tried, but in vain. Kallu suggested
that if they tried together, perhaps they
might win. He told Bholu to stand still. He
jumped onto the back of Bholu. And lo!
The grapes were all theirs. He plucked
many ripe bunches and got down. They

both shared the grapes and uttered
happily ‘How sweet are our grapes!’
