Classification of Cockroach PHYLUM Arthropoda class Insecta ORDER Blattodae genus Periplaneta SPECIES Americana
Shape and size : Body is narrow, elongated, bilaterally symmetrical and dorso-ventrally flattened. The adult measures 3-4cm in length and 2cm in width. Colouration : The colour is shining reddish-brown . Exoskeleton : The whole body is externally covered by brown- coloured, hard, jointed, chitinous and greasy cuticle. - Exoskeleton has hardened plates called sclerites . External Features
Cuticle : T his affords protection from loss of water, provides rigidity and offers points of attachment to body muscles. Segmentation : Its body is divided into head, thorax and abdomen . Fig 1.
