PARTS OF EYE CORNEA PUPIL LENS IRIS SCLERA RETINA OPTIC NERVE CHOROID OPTIC DISC BLOOD VESSELS MACULA VITREOUS

VARIOUS INJURIES CAUSING OUR EYES From work place by foreign objects or chemicals UV light or infrared radiation exposure Burns from streams Flying wood or metal chips Infectious disease When contact with swinging objects from a fixed or attached position ; e.g. tree limbs, ropes etc.

REASONS OF INJURIES AT WORK PLACES Not wearing eye protector Wearing the wrong kind of protector Unaware of the safety measures Following the wrong safety measures Unaware of injuries

PROBLEMS OF OUR EYES AFTER INJURY Vision becomes blur. Loss your eye sight. Cataract may occur. Chemicals entering the eye causes infectious disease.

HOW TO CURE FROM THESE INJURY? When particle in the eye: Do not rub the eye Close the eye, bandage it lightly and seek medical care Blows to the eye: Seek medical care if severe pain or reduced vision Apply cold compressor without putting pressure on the eye Cuts and punctures to the eye or eyelid: Do not wash out the eye Do not attempt to remove object that stuck in the eye Cover the eye with a rigid shield

COMPUTER VISION SYNDROME: Condition which results from focusing the eyes on a computer for many hours. Symptoms : head ache Blurred vision Neck pain Redness in the eye Eye strain Dry eyes Double vision Difficulty in refocusing the eyes These symptoms also occurs because of improper lighting condition or air moving past the eyes.

EAT FOR GOOD VISION: Green leafy vegetable such as spinach, etc. Salmon, tuna and other oily fish. Eggs, nuts, beans and other non-meat protein sources. Oranges and other citrus fruits or juices. Eating a well-balanced diet make you free from diabetes, which cause blindness in adults.

CONTACT LENSES: It cannot protect from ocular hazards in the work place. Improved vision gives positive impact on work place safety. Gives wider field of view than eye glasses. Have less visual distortion. More comfortable.

LASER PROTECTION: Laser protection eye wears protect from visible or invisible wavelength of laser light. These eye wears helps to filter laser light.

GOGGLES Prevent injury of eye. Used in: Laboratories Sports Work place Prescription glasses are also available

TYPES OF GOGGLES: Cold weather:- prevent inferior part of eye from becoming foggy. Swimming:- prevent water Power tool:- made by unbreakable material Blow torch goggle:- filters glare and flying sparks of hot metal but they are not for welding glass Motor cycle:- prevents flying particles from hitting eye

FIRST AID FOR EYE EMERGENCIES Flush the eye at least for 15 minutes if any chemicals entered. Remove the contact lens. Do not try to neutralize the chemical with other substance. Do not bandage the eye. Seek immediate medical care.

HANDLING EMERGENCIES Emergency eye wash should be placed in all hazardous areas. First aid instruction should be posted close to potential danger spot. Employees must know where the closest eyewash station is and how to get there with restricted vision. Wear protection glass also with prescription glass. Eye and face protection that fit comfortably over glasses is available.

SOME SLOGANS ON EYES Even in a Hi-Tech world, our eyes are still your greatest asset. Forgot your safety glasses? Then forget about seeing. Use your eyes, don’t lose them. You can eat with false teeth, you cannot see with a glass eye. Eyes are priceless- eye protection is cheap.

WHATEVER THE JOB PROTECT YOUR EYES PREVENT THE INJURY RATHER THAN CURING

THANK YOU
