SCOPE Factory :- Establishment employing 10 or more workers where power is used and 20 or more workers where power is not used 1976 amendment modifies the term ‘worker’ to include contract labours of manufacturing industry also
SCOPE Role of state government:- To appoint besides the chief inspector of factories as many additional chief inspectors, joint chief inspectors, deputy chief inspectors etc
HEALTH,SAFETY AND WELFARE provisions are made for health, safety and welfare of workers It includes cleanliness,lighting,ventilation, treatment of wastes,elimination of dust and fumes,provision for spittoons etc
HEALTH,SAFETY AND WELFARE minimum 500 Cu.ft of space for each worker It also prescribes the precautions which should be taken for ensuring the safety of workers
HEALTH,SAFETY AND WELFARE -500 or more employees -appointment of ‘ welfare officers ’ -1000 or more employees- appointment of ‘ safety officers ’
EMPLOYMENT OF YOUNG PERSONS prohibits children below 14 years Fitness for work should be provided by a certified surgeon Adolescent (15-18 years) working time:- between 6am and 7pm
Maximum of 48 hours per week not exceeding 9 hours per day,rest for ½ hour after 5 hours of continuous work 1976 amendment to increase spread over period of work up to 12 hours HOURS OF WORK
LEAVE WITH WAGES -leave with wages will be provided for every worker after 12 month’s continuous work For adults:- one day for every 20 days of work For children:- one day for every 15 days Can be accumulated up to 30 days in adults
OCCUPATIONAL DISEASES Role of factory management :- to provide information regarding specified accidents which cause death,serious bodily injuries etc 1976 amendment includes asbestosis , byssinosis,occupational dermatitis and noise induced hearing loss among notifiable cases
EMPLOYMENT IN HAZARDOUS PROCESSES Included in Chapter IV- A of Factories act Site Appraisal Committee consists of chief inspector and other members for examining service conditions of employees in a factory involving hazardous processes
