RESPECT EMPOWERMENT JUSTICE The FBI looks into numerous crimes annually involving hundreds of thousands of victims, many of whom are children. The devastation caused by these crimes to people, families, and communities is severe. Crime victims must navigate the criminal justice system while attempting to reconstruct their lives and recover from their losses.

FBI Victim Specialist An FBI Victim Specialist focuses on ensuring the health and wellness of victims. Providing them with information a resources for a adequate healing path and re-accommodation process. The FBI Office for Victim Assistance utilizes the resources of their Victim Assistance Program and Victim Specialists to provide assistance to victims of crimes investigated by the FBI.

ASSISTING VICTIMS The FBI has raised awareness and more knowledge on the importance of FBI Victim Specialist program. Victims gain from being treated with respect and receiving support, while the FBI gains from stronger cases. Federal laws defend victims of federal offenses and give them a say throughout the investigation and legal defense of their case.

Victim RIGHTS The rigth to be informed of the place where they may recieve medical and social services; The right to be informed of public and private programs that are aviable for counseling, treatment, and other support services; The right to receive reasonable protection from a suspected offender and persons acting in concert with or at the behest of the suspected offender; The right to know the status of the investigation of the crime, to the extent it is appropriate and will not interfere with the investigation; The right to notification regarding the arrest of a suspected offender. The rights of Federal crime victims as they pertain to the FBI's role throughout the investigating phase of their case are detailed in 42 United States Code 10607, and they also include being treated fairly and with respect for their dignity and privacy. Some of this rights include.

What tasks is a Victim Assistance worker Expected to realize on a daily basis Provides advice to staff and other workers professional guidance and counsel on matters pertaining to internal victim support policies. Identifies the requirements of the Victim Assistance Program via continuing qualitative analysis of the victim specialist's work, regular communication with the victim specialist's superior, other field office staff, and management of the Victim Services Division. Coordinate forensic interviews and sexual assault examinations Respond to crime sites in order to evaluate, prioritize, and offer immediate, on-site crisis intervention services. Participates in federal working groups that address the creation of rules and procedures that will improve how victims are treated in the criminal justice system on a federal level. Increase the efficacy and efficiency of program operations, develops and evaluates a variety of analytical studies.

Key Requirements for the job Must be a U.S. citizen Must be able to obtain a Top Secret clearance ALL candidates must certify that they have met the basic education criterion by sending a copy of their college transcripts. Possess a valid driver’s license Have three years of direct service experience Pass an FBI polygraph examination

Skills Required for a Victim Specialist Assistance Expertise in crisis response, evaluation, and triage. Cooperation Communication Interpersonal Competence Resolution of Issues/Judgment Teaching/Mentoring/Coaching Organizational/Administrative Policies and Procedures Victim specialists must have a track record of building and sustaining successful connections with individuals from various socioeconomic, cultural, and racial backgrounds. Speaking another language and offering direct assistance to victims of violent crimes and those from Indian Country are preferred talents.

Types of Federal crimes where the FBI Victim Assistance Program and/or Victim Specialist resources are utilized to provide assistance include: Violent Crime Crimes Against Children  Indian Country Crime  Domestic and International Terrorism Civil Rights Violations  Hate Crimes  Human Trafficking White-Collar Crime  Health Care Fraud  Identity Theft  Mortgage Fraud Telemarketing Fraud Cyber Crime  Child Sexual Exploitation  Computer Intrusion  Internet Fraud

Degree and experience Required for the job Degree in social science, behavioral science, or a similar field that is acceptable for the employment. OR a combination of education and experience that gave the candidate social or behavioral science competence on par with a major in the discipline. OR Four years of relevant experience that showed the candidate had learned the behavioral or social sciences in the same depth as a major in the discipline. GS-13: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level

Salary Victim Specialists in the United States earn an estimated $70,391 in total compensation year, or $44,840 on average. The expected annual increase in wages is $25,550. Additional compensation options include commission, tips, cash bonuses, and profit sharing.
