TARA NA TAYO NA SA LAGUNA FESTIVAL 2019

TARA NA TAYO NA SA LAGUNA Participants will be group according to their Unit Athletic Meet Association. Identify the different festival dances performed during your annual celebrations of your cities and municipalities festival. Write your answer in the Meta Card and post it in the board. You are given 5 minutes to finish the activity. Choose a representative to present your work within two minutes. Guide Questions: When and where do we celebrate this festival and what is the origin of the dances? What do you think will be the output if learners do not know the nature and origin of the dance?

Festival Dance

Festival dances may be religious or secular in nature. But the best thing about festival is that they add to the merry – making and festivities of place where they are celebrated, the reason why they are called festival dances after all.

Nature of Festival Dances Cultural with Religious Influences – These are dances characterized by movements showing reverence to a religious icon believed to have intercede in their personal life. The Philippines where majority of its people are Catholics, celebrate fiestas pompously and with so much gaiety. To them, this celebration is an expression of thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest and for favour or request granted through divine intercession. Moriones Festival An annual Holy Week on the Island of Marinduque “ Moriones ” are men and women in costumes and masks replicating the garb biblical Roman soldiers as interpreted by local folks. The participants use Morion masks to depict the Roman soldiers and Syrian mercenaries within the story of the Passion of the Christ. The mask wasnamed after the 16 th and 17 th century Morion helmet

Penafrancia Festival The feast of Our Lady of Penafrancia is celebrated on the third day of September in Naga, Bicol. The feast day is precede by a novena, nine days of prayer, in honor of the Virgin. The colourful evening procession is lit by thousands of candles from devotees in boats escorting the image. When the barge reaches its destination, the devotees shout “Viva la Virgen ” (Long Live the Virgin) and the image is brought back in a procession to the cathedral.

Pahiyas Festival One of the country’s biggest and most colourful harvest festival Every May 15 th , along with the harvest festivals of the towns of Tayabas , Sariaya , Gumaca and Tiaong . These are the Philippines know harvest festivals to honor San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers. Decorations called “ Kiping ” , leaf shaped and multi colored rice paste wafers which are used to decorate the facades of the homes along with fruits and flowers from nature.

Nature of Festival Dances Indigenous Influence / Secular/ Non-Religious festival - Filipinos who are known to be fun loving people always find time to celebrate any occasion be it personal, family or even those that will require the whole community to commemorate an event or acknowledge an icon which became the source of inspiration, identity, or origin. It also showcases Filipino values such as industry, cooperation and unity. The celebration is performed along the streets as dancers performed rhythmical movements accompanied by canned or indigenous musical instruments. The dance culminates in a grand presentation where dancers display their skills with prowess, excellent choreography and colourful props in full tapestry. (Let us focus on Luzon)

Ibalong Festival A non-religious festival in Legazpi City, Albay and is held in August. The festival celebrates the epic story Ibalong who was accompanied by three legendary heroes, Baltog , Handyong , Bantong and other ancient heroes People parade in the streets wearing masks and costumes to imitate the appearances of the heroes and the villains, portraying the classic battles that made their way into the history of Bicol This festivities aims to express warmth and goodwill to all people; visitors and tourists are encourage to celebrate with the Bicolanos As the current historians says the present location of the Ancient settlement of the Ibalong is in Magallanes , Sorsogon .

Panagbenga Festival (Blooming Flower Festival) A month-long annual flower festival occurring in Baguio. Panagbenga is a term of Malayo - Polynessian origin, meaning “season of blooming” The festival , held during the Month of February, was created as tribute to the city’s flowers and as away to rise up from the devastation of the 1990s Luzon earthquake. Festival also includes parade of floats covered mostly with flowers. Street dancing were presented with flower inspired costumes, that is inspired by the Bendian , Ibaloi dance of celebration that came from the Cordillera Region.

Activity 2: Let us watch and Analysed Directions: The participants will watch video clip of a specific festival dance of Luzon. Have each group discuss the nature of the festival dance been shown. Let them write their responses in a Meta Card paste it in the manila paper and post it on the board. Have the group present their outputs to the class. Guide question Is the festival dance religious or non – religious? What is the occasion being celebrated in the dance? When and where this festival dance performed?

APPLICATION From the videos you watch, create a simple choreography unique to your assigned festival dance from Luzon using four (4)figures combinations with sixteen (16) counts each figure. Each group are given 10 minutes to prepare and 3 minutes to present the dance.
