FIBs Reading Section- Marking Criteria 1 Mark for each right answer No negative marking. So never leave any blank un-attempted. Strategies:- Understand the Context of the passage. 2. Grammar 3. Collocations ( co-occur together most of the times, eg . Strong tea, heavy drinker, quick bath) Vocabulary 5. You must have understanding about the verbs, tenses and the use of adverb, adjective and nouns.
Three forms of Verb 1 st Form of verb :- Present or Simplest form of verb Eg . Destroy, collect etc. 2 nd form :- generally the past form of verb Eg . Collected, destroyed 3 rd form of verb :- Past participle ( ed )(en), Present participle ( ing ) Eg . Collected , destroyed etc. Active/Passive Voice:- 1. Active Voice = Subject+verb+object Eg . Mark is playing cricket. 2 . Passive Voice = Object comes in the beginning of the sentence. Eg . Cricket is being played by Mark. Passive voice = always 3 rd form of verb.
Grammatical Rules:- If there is any blank after “to”______ The word after “to” will always be the first form of verb . Eg . I am here to watch a movie. 2. If there is any blank after “for/while”___________ You have use continuous form of verb i.e. 1 st verb+ing Eg . I want something for storing food. While exploring the options, we met him. 3.If there is any blank after “it/which/that”___________ You have to use plural form of verb eg . (verb with s/ es ) Eg . It plays an important role. 4. Blank after “is/am/are” _______________ Use continuous form of verb ie . VERB+ing (for ACTIVE VOICE) For Passive voice only 3 rd form can be used. Eg . He is watching a movie. (Active) A movie is being watched by him. (Passive)
Grammatical Rules:- 5. Blank after a/an/the______ There will always be a noun in the blank. a/an/ the+noun . Eg . There is an orange in the basket. 6. Blank between an article(a/an/the) and a noun, it will always be an adjective . a/an/the + adjective + noun. Eg . There is a red apple in the basket. 7. Blank after “has/have/had”___________ Use past participle of verb ie . Verb ending with “ ed ” or 3 rd form. Eg . He has completed the homework. 8. Blank after “a/an”________ There will always be a singular noun in the blank. Eg . He went to a party .( not parties) 9. Blank after “be/been”___________ Either 3 rd form or Continuous form of verb. Eg . He has been working on the project for a long time. The tutor told the students to be disciplined .
Grammatical Rules:- 10. Blank after “can/could/may/will/would/shall/should”_______ There will be 1 st form of the verb in the blank. Eg . I will come to the class tomorrow. She can pass this exam easily. You should work hard, if you want to succeed.
