The Indian FinTech ecosystem is one of the top three funded FinTech ecosystems in 2024 on a global scale, next to the US and the UK. However, funding in this space has been witnessing a declining trend similar to the global equivalents. The decline in funding in this space can be attributed to the overall slowdown in demand on a global scale and other geo-political headwinds. Despite this, the Indian economy has shown a robust performance this year, considering the projected GDP growth rate of 6.6% for FY 24 -25. The economy has shown strong fundamentals and resilience through declining inflation and healthy balance sheets across banks and non-banks. The Union Budget of 2024 brought several reforms that potentially had a positive impact on this sector such as the Abolition of Angel Tax for all classes of investors. With the Budget of 2025 set to be released shortly, we can expect further monetary policy support that can help boost this sector further. Tracxn Insights (1/6) ‹#›

In 2024, the Reserve Bank of India introduced several regulatory measures impacting the fintech sector. In August, the RBI granted SRO status to the Fintech Association for Consumer Empowerment (FACE), an industry body representing fintech lenders responsible for about 80% of digital lending volumes in India. This move is intended to ensure that the rapidly growing fintech sector adheres to statutory and regulatory guidelines. 2024 in this space has witnessed a total funding of $1.9B, a 33% drop compared to $2.8B funding raised in 2023. Additionally, it's a 66% decrease from the $5.6B funds raised in 2022. The funding in late-stage rounds stands at $1.1B, showing a 42% decrease from $1.9B raised in 2023 and a 65% decrease from $3.1B raised in 2022. The funding in early stage rounds in 2024 stands at $562M. This accounts for a 16% decrease from the $667M recorded in 2023, and a 70% decrease from the $1.9B raised in 2022. Tracxn Insights (2/6) ‹#›

The funding in the seed-stage round stands at $178M. This is a 19% decrease compared to $219M raised in 2023, although it is a 66% decrease compared to $529M raised in 2022. Q3 was the highest funded quarter in 2024 with $805M raised a 61% increase from Q3 2023. 59% of the total funding this year was observed in the second half of 2024. August was the highest-funded month this year with $434M raised. 2024 has witnessed 3, 100M+ funding rounds, which is a 50% decline compared to 6 such rounds in 2023 . DMI Finance, a provider of consumer and SME loans, raised $334M in Series E funding from MUFG. Digital lending solutions have played a pivotal role in promoting financial inclusion for both rural and urban regions in the country.
