THE GIRL SCOUT PROMISE & LAW
• Provides a girl a simple definite way to understand the

know, love and serve Him and in doing so, love and serve
our fellowmen who are His children.

A Girl Scout is helpful.
A Girl Scout is a friend to all and a sister to every other girl
scout.

PATROL SYSTEM
- is a self-government in action - - democratic living
on a level which girls can understand and
appreciate.
PATROLS are small groups of six to eight
members, each working together under the
leadership of a patrol leader who is chosen by
the girls from amongst themselves and
trained by the troop leader for the job. Three
to five patrols make up a troop inasmuch as a
troop has a maximum of forty girls.
badgework
BADGEWORK – is the means by which girls are encouraged to
participate in Girl Scouting activities.
badge
A BADGE is provided as incentive for a knowledge or skill
acquired as a result of participating in the activities.
The BADGE, therefore, is the symbol of the girl’s achievement
and not an award as some people think it is.
A BADGE stands for the girl’s preparedness for service and tells
what she is capable of doing.
A girl may work for a badge individually, with her patrol, with
the troop or with a group sharing the same interest.

OUT OF DOORS
The Girl Scout program is best carried out in an outdoor setting.
One of the chief attractions of Scouting to young people is the
promise of adventure and fun in the out-of-doors.
CAMPING ranks as one of the highest in the list of activities
that girls like to do.
